LK22 - Always War - Iroqoius

1700BC Our warior in Salamanca gets blooded defending the town against 2 barbarians, he is now a vetern. Worker start to colonize incense.

1675BC-1625BC MMWM

1600BC One of our scouts meets the Chehalis tribe and learns Mystism. :smoke: Communications with him become cryptic. He also thinks he sees a red line.
Our scout in the south meets the Cherokee, they know the secrets of Iron and teach us how to work it. :D
Niagra Falls has iron just outside its borders, a temple is :whipped: A worker stops building a road to the incense and is sent to get the iron.

1575BC MMWM

1550BC We learn Math from the Saxons.

1525BC MMWM

1500BC We learn how to ride horses, shamans are sick of having to memorize all stories, they start investing how to write.

1475BC Our Bourders expand, iron is now within our bourders. We learn Polytheism from Anasazi.

The Game: Always War

I forget when, the scount saw a black border in the southwest.

Current Game plan:
Tightly packed cities. We need plenty of low corruption cities.
Barracks ASAP.
First goal for leader - Army (At least mounted warrior army), or Pyramids.
Keep the workers away from borders.

Goals - Find horses! This is getting frustrating - I picked the Iroqoius for the mounted warrior - yet not one horse anywhere one the map?

Comments - If Salamanca is going to build a granary - utilize the hill, cuts time in 1/2.
I would cancel road to incense and mine the hill by Salamance - we need production.

Inherited Turn:
Babylon appears on the foreign advisor screen, but we're at PEACE?? Nah, this will not do. I'm not sure how this works, but I would guess that the other civs only appear on the screen once we have made contact (as opposed to just finding their borders). Next time we make contact, they're gonna get :hammer:
No horses. We MUST find horses.
There's iron, incense, silks and wines to the south of us. There's also green borders there, so we need to expand in that direction if at all possible. Luxuries will be essential to max out population and therefore productivity. Of course if we find horses, those will override everything.
With a plan to explore as much as possible to locate horses, and to expand to the South to snag the luxuries, I review our three cities.
Salamanca is building a granary. Great choice, as this city will pump out settlers and workers like there's no tomorrow (there's flood plains all around). To prepare for this I leave it as is, set to max food to give us a jump start on settlers once the granary is complete.
Niagra falls already has barracks and a temple and is ready to pump out military once the settler there completes.
Grand River is producting a barracks right now. I toyed with the idea of changing that to a temple in order to expand borders and get another flood plain square in our borders. Barracks it is for now, temple next.

(1) 1450AD:
Moving our scouts reveals a brace of barbarian camps and barbarians roaming around.
Niagra Falls goes into disorder. Luxuries up to 20%, science backed down to 70%. Four turns added to writing, but this is a temporary fix until the settler is completed.

(2) 1425BC:
Barb warriors approach our cities.

(3) 1400BC:
Barbarian warrior attacks Grand River and takes two hit points of the defending spearman.
Two barbarian warriors approach Salamanca.

(4) 1375BC:
Salamanca barbarian warrior #1 is dispatched with no damage to our defending warrior.
Niagra falls produces a settler, starts spearman.

(5) 1350BC:
The settler is sent South to claim the spices as we're already running into happiness issues. Science back to 80%, luxuries back to 0%.
Salamanca barbarian warrior #2 takes 2 hit points off our defending warrior before keeling over.

(6) 1325BC:
A scout ends up next to a Babylonian warrior. I pull him back.

(7) 1300BC:
More scouting around our lands.

(8) 1275BC:
Are the barbarians set to raging or something? There are camps EVERYWHERE. Our scout ends up next to a barb warrior, I don't rate his chances. Yep, he dies :(
I hope the other civs, wherever they may be are having the same barbarian problems.

(9) 1250BC:
Grand River produces barracks, starts spearman.
Two English warriors pull up next to our worker who is roading the incense.

(10) 1225BC:
Steve's Silkland founded. Two silks in range.
This sucks. Still no horses anywhere.
I pull our worker away from the English warriors.

Notes:
Where on Earth are the horses?????
We have a severe barbarian problem and virtually no defence. I am worried about a massive uprising, not helped by having over 200 gold in the treasury.
English warriors heading our way.

I will pick up the game in a few hours if nothing is heard.

I really don't want to skip Barrius, as this is his first game.

However, still no response - I emailed also.

If I don't here from him within 24 hours he will be skipped.

Open Position - I am going with Arizona_Steve is out.
I want one new player. To early in the game to drop to 4.

Welcome aboard - I have put you after Barrius

However, with your "Horsies" comment - you will be skipped 1 round if Barrius doesn't show or doesn't find them.

Foreknowledge like that is cheating...

I agree completely.. I checked, as you can see, before I even knew I would join. In fact, you can skip me even if Barrius does show up this round or does find the horses, if that would be appropriate.

I also shouldn't have posted that message in the first place, so sorry about that. I guess I just wanted to say dont give up hope..

I noticed we already have contact with Babylon (I think) but we are not at war with them.. Was the last player just ignoring them?

If this is true - IMMEDIATE WAR must be declared. We can avoid seeing there borders, but once they are met. WAR.

I downloaded the save but every time I try to play it my computer crashes when I load the .sav file. I have the 1.21 patch installed. Is anyone else able to get the save to work?
If it works for you then I guess the next person should go ahead and play it until I figure out what my problem is...

Sorry about the late reply and any delays that may have resulted - I pretty much had to stay off the computer all day. I have been forced to concede that I have been playing FAR too much Civ as of late and am therefore having to seriously curtail my activities here.

12 hours of Civ yesterday I have to admit is taking things a little too far when I have a family here to take care of.

Please go ahead and drop me from this game. As from now I'll only take part in the LotR3 Emperor training succession game and Grey Fox's tournament (Veteran level).

Take care everyone!

I copied the .sav file into my into the saves directory and it loaded fine - why error do you get?

I have suffered twice recently with using the .SAV format to attach games result in corrupted games - DATA IO error at 37% of load. I am not 100% sure if it cause the problem, but I don't want to take the chance.

Effect Now - New rule for all LK games. Must attach files using .ZIP format. The .SAV is much more prone to corruption during file download.

I will personally refuse to play a turn if I get the game in a .sav format. I just had to throw away 8 hours of civ time, and will not chance it again.

Pre-Turn - Play troop and luxury shuffle to get a spearman into Salamanca.
Chance Steve's Silkland to barracks.

I fix the Situation with Babylon - we officially meet - I sell him Polytheism getting all of his cash - Then as mandate by the scenario - I declare war. This game may crash and burn real fast.
Niagra falls begins an archer.

(1) 1200 BC - I generally HATE to whip, but I need troops now. Whip a Spearman out in Grand River.
Start Archer in Grand River.
(2) 1175 BC - I have to risk it - Vet Warrior attack Babylon regular warrior and - we lose the warrior.
(3) 1150 BC - Salamanca survives a barb attack.
(4) 1125 BC - Our scout finds a barb horseman :(
(5) 1100 BC - We lose the scout. Grand River defended by a elite Spearman. Niagra falls orders a another spearman.

(6) 1075 BC -
(7) 1050 BC - I really wonder if I screwed up the Barb level - way to many this game.
(8) 1025 BC - Have to Change Steve's back to Warrior. Our Archer kills a barb horseman.
Next science goal - literature.
(9) 1000 BC -
(10) 975 BC -

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads/LK22-975BC.zip

Summary - Where are the horses? We HAVE no free units to explore for them.
Steve's is intentionally working the plains - We need shields more right know, save 20 turns on barracks.
The Archer in the forest is trying to find the mystery barb camp.
I just hope the Granary pays off - I would rather have barracks / troops right now.

Current Game plan:
Tightly packed cities. We need plenty of low corruption cities. Barracks ASAP.
First goal for leader - Army (At least mounted warrior army), or Pyramids.
Keep the workers away from borders.

We need to start expanding somehow. We can't win with 4 cities.

Barrius (hopefully figured out his save problem)

I've got the game. Sorry about missing the incense, at the time I was only thinking about founding on the river close to the capital, the gold was just a bonus. Now that I look at it probably should have founded on the plains area just west of the mountians would have missed the river but would have gotten the incense and left room for a city south east of the capital. My bad, hopefully won't hurt us too bad in the long run.

Marching orders: Find horses
Found additional city if possible
Continue to build defense.
