Soon I'll be flying to London where I'll stay for 3 days enjoying the city. But before arriving there, I want to know from you CFCers what are your best memories of London, to tell me what is really worth looking for (3 days seem so short..).

And how expensive is London's public transportation? Where can I find good food? Should I really "Fish and Chips" and "Mars bars"? :goodjob:

All your transport questions in advance from where you sit here.

This is your average Londoners guide to their social life. Well, what's going on at least. :)

Drinks are expensive in London. You will pay anything from £2.70 for a pint of beer in a cheap pub, up to £20 for the privilege of getting into somewhere which will give you free beer for a while. Everything is expensive in London, so you better beef your budget up a bit.

Try fish and chips, although I don't know how good they will be up there.

Mars bars... nah, leave em :D.

Follow what Ram said.

I'm not the best one for locations in London (I have been up there a couple of dozen times, but I very much dislike it and believe that other towns and cities have as much/more history and interest if your willing to find them).

Best time in London: yesterday.
Price: expensive.
The Underground and double-decker buses are mcu cheaper than the black cabs.

One thing I can tell you NOT to do: DO NOT eat and McD there. Its horrible, believe me. Especially considering Swiss standarts.

My best memories of London were the parks. There are a number of them there and each is worth visiting or at least walking through. This might be a bad thing now, but take a double decker tour of London - might give you an idea where you want to go. I don't know well what you are looking for in London, but I think Ram gave you some good sites.

When you're in London, you must try the famous echo in the Reading Room of the British Museum.

There is also a whispering gallery in the Tate Gallery.

Those links I gave are the same things Londoners use btw.

As for parks - yes hit them. Find Regent's Park and walk through to the Serpentine Gallery. That's a very nice stroll and you can go far without hitting a single road.

A tour bus might not be the best idea- it doesn't allow you to go at your own pace.

However, if you want to get one to see where to go then that's another matter (or you could just go to a tourist information :p).

Another useful thing to know about London (and all of Britain, BTW) is that brothels all display blue lights by the entrance.

As in avoid them? ;)

They are also all concentrated in one district.

No those are the gay brothels. The green ones are for the women and the red ones are for the errrr...

Upon entering a car on a London Underground train, it is customary to shake hands with everybody already in that car.

Nope, you haven't "got it".

If you are looking for massage parlours/health clubs/brothels, then apparently Manchester is the best place to go to ;)

If I was in London I'd go to the Science Museum, the Natural History Museum and for a ride up the river to see the sights before plunging into the cool interior of St. Pauls Cathedral. Oh, yes...the PM War Bunker in Westminister is also well worth seeing and HMS Belfast.

My financée and I enjoy shopping in Camden when we visit London. Otherwise, I just like to bike around the city.

Don't forget to sniff your hand first before offering it to anyone else, shows you are careful not to spread germs as you wouldn't offer a smelly hand, would you?

The Imperial War Museum and the National Maritime Museum (in Greenwich) are also worth seeing.

That famous "Tower" Bridge is it? Its next to the former prison/castle also worth visiting.

To KoC: Got it! Manchester..... :)

Er, no. Gelion, the blue lights are for police stations, it is red lights for brothels ;)
