London, here I come!

Really? ;)

My best memories of London, were the concerts. Often, American bands or singers were not as popular in Britain as back home in the states, and their concerts would not be sold out. The Hammersmith Odeon was my favourite venue. If you go to Trafalgar Square, there are a couple of shops on the streets surrounding it, that sell tickets to London shows. Pick up a printed list and look for some bands you like!

The Imperial War Museum and the National Maritime Museum (in Greenwich) are also worth seeing.

Cannot stress enough how true this statement is. I'll also throw in the Natural History Museum.

Me and my girlfriend had a great time just wandering. Check out the main streets, go to Hamley's! And of COURSE you should have fish and chips.

As stated, Bus' and Underground are the way to go. I got a bus pass relatively cheap for the week I was there. And for goodness sake, don't forget to shake hand's with everyone on the underground train you're in.

Edit: Didn't realise the hand shaking had been stated before ;)

Is that really true? I took it as a joke :) I never saw anyone doing it in the Tube....

You might get mugged if you don't shake hands...

Nah, not really, but you will get a few odd looks (and you might get mugged anyway ;)).

I have a lot of good memories of London. Probably my favorite was when I was attending a gaming convention and my company was sponsoring the big Playboy party. I was just VIP enough to get an invite. Good times, good times. Also since my company was one of the major exhibitors, I got a backstage pass to the convention which meant I could play the Sony machines in the off hours, without all the crowds. Staying in a 5 star hotel didn't hurt.

Anyway, I'd suggest talking a nice walk across the bridge (you'll know it when you see it) and find a restaurant about a block away from the riverfront. Get some fish and chips and find a seat by the window. I've taken a couple of women to that restaurant as well as gone by myself. That whole area is nice, just wander around. Enjoy.

edit Wow! A thousand posts. Only took 4+ years.

If its deep fried Mars bars you're looking for, you need to head North.

The Tower of London tour was a lot of fun. The guides are great.

May also recommend getting tickets for major tourist attractions (that involve queues) a day early? I did for Madame Tussauds and the London Eye. This was a good idea, as I found the former boring and the latter slightly fun to see things so high up.

Allows you to jump queus, go straight in, that sort of thing.

I beg to differ. My local clogged artery house will wrap any chocolate bar you provide them with in cholesterol. And I only live in Hertfordshire (granted that is north, but only a lil bit).

You also want to be checking out Kew Gardens, which is an immense botanical garden and is often quoted as having the largest greenhouses in Europe. It has all manner of different style gardens.

And if it's arts and culture you are into try hanging out at The South Bank. This contains the National Film Theatre, Royal Festival Hall, 3 galleries including the Hayward and much more. The Barbican is also a good centre for the same. Any of those names into google will get you to their respective websites.

Foreigners, especially Americans, are allowed to watch cricket matches from in front of the large, white screens. Players and spectators will often acknowledge their arrival with merry shouts and happy hand-waving.

YNCS is right. It is just north of London (30mins drive). I've also remembered that I got a few choco bars deep fried at places I lived near when I was in London. But I really wouldn't recommend it. It's the kind of thing you do to say you've done it rather than enjoying. Rather like sleeping with Margaret Thatcher for example. Oh wait a minute... :dubious:

Or if you're really, really drunk. Once again recommend the chipper as an alternative. To the mars bar, not Thatcher!
