Long Winded Changes (LWC) Mod

I can confirm that I have less crashes with 1.16f than 1.17f.

I do admit to having the odd crash with 1.16f however, it could be my computer as it is screwed and other programs crash.

I do notice the difference between the patches and I have never had a crash with the 1.16 patch that I couldn't "get through". I just turn on the Auto-save and I'm "crash-worry-free" :)

I'm fairly certain 1.16 crashed with me once, too. I suppose 1.17 - which I hate except for stack movement - will have to go, what with the original game mod being such a piece of junk.

I'll try 1.16 again with LWC. I just hope I can get through the tedium of Modern Warfare without stack movement.

What we all want is 1.16 with stack movement. Of course, damn Firaxis won't give it to us.

My, it's been quite a while since I posted anything, and I'm obviously quite back-logged in my replys.

But to the meat of the issue that most people are most interested in: I Will be updating the LWC Mod for the new patch!

What I will most likely do is wait for a few days after the patch to insure that no major bugs suddenly pop up, and that the installer build process wasn't (hilariously) FUBAR'ed ;)

Then I'll "remake" the mod anew, but with just some minor tweaks and taking advantage of the new options (if neccessary).

As there are ways of handling things that I think will be alot less buggy (but which are completely invisible to you, the end-user; it's mainly just the process I use to make changes), it could be an improvement with no drawbacks.

It'll basically (hopefully) be the current version with less bugs (keep your fingers crossed about that one).

Then, as time allows, I'll work on a new version taking into account the ability to have more resources and, most importantly of all - possibly rescaling attack/defense and use HP instead. It's definately a more elegant and functional solution with considerably less drawbacks than the current way of doing things. Of course I think it works pretty well as is, but I think I can keep all that's good and get rid of all that's bad, even if it's just a minor tinkering in some areas (should be able to be used to help "fix" submarines, too - they'd likely have more firepower than normal ships, but less HP).

All the rest lies ahead.

Until then... [cues Phantom of the Opera music, fade to black]

Is there any way to find out the specific changes to Units you've made (ie ADM etc)? (I did look in changes.txt and the civilopedia, but it's not there). It's always nice to have a unit chart handy without always having to go to the Pedia. Otherwise, absolutely super mod! I can't wait for the final version! :goodjob:

Oh, about using HP to balance units: I have tried that (by altering Combat Experience) and battles take forever if you have any more than 7-8 HP, even that's a bit of a drag with something like 15-20 Immortals. Also, if you are going to use HP to widen the gap between for example Ancient and Medieval units, Veterans and Elites will have less and less of an advantage against Regulars as you go into modern times. (because 10/7 is more than 20/17 is more than 30/27 and so on).

Has anyone tried the LWC mod with the new 1.21 patch?
If you have, what are the results?
I won't be able to try anything until Sunday night. :(

I was just about to ask that.

I had some crashing with 1.17.

If anyone knows, please post here.

It seems to me that a solution that one other modder did was to uninstall the mod, run the 1.21 patch, then re-install the mod.
My question would be, how do you uninstall the LWC mod?

Daaraa,
U cant uninstall the mod, b\c it doesnt replace civ3mod.bic. Its only a scenario.:crazyeye:

Duh :crazyeye:
I guess my brain just hiccuped

So if I can safely assume you've installed the 1.21 patch, how does the LWC mod/scenario work ?
And can you play old games?

my...my...my.....LWC mod makes Civ3 even "more" addicting. I don't know if that's good or not. :-))

What a superb job! Please let us know when the new one comes out, ok?

In case anyone else is interested, I've played the LWC mod for a day and a half with the 1/21 patch. (Not straight of course ;) )
I've tried it on old games in the modern age, an old game in the industrial and started a new game and played until the middle of the ancient era. So far nothing unusual. I figure if it survived a huge map, modern era with 8 civs 4 of whom were at war then everything should be ok.
The was one crash during the new game but I re-booted and it worked fine after that. I think it was more of a RAM issue than a civ3-lwc-mod issue.
Other than that the 1.21 patch is better than the 1.17. Less crashes than I experienced during my brief stint with the 1.17 patch.

I Edited 1.21 heavily. Changing its stupid unit values, and changing useless units into those that make sense. I did not hack, as Plutarck did.

THE GAME STILL CRASHED.

Now, I'll try 1.21 with the LWC mod.

We shall see. . .

I am so sick of Firaxis. They give us an Editor, and if we Edit their asinine values, it crashes as soon as the new units start coming on line (the Editing mostly began with the gunpowder era, and that's when the crashing occured).

I'd suggest uninstalling the whole thing then installing fresh. Then just use the 1.21 patch and then unzip LWC mod. I've heard of a few conflicts people have had and that seemed to solve a lot. I'm not sure why, I'm just repeating what I've read in case you have more problems or haven't read that.

I was using LWC5 with a few bic changes.

I give settler the ability to clear forest & jungle.

after installing the 1.21f patch and playing a few turns, I realize my settlers can no longer clear stuff & my coruption rates are back thru the roof...
I check the bic file the date did not change but the units & city impriovmets values did...

I loaded a copy of my good bic file (I do learn from **** ups) but the values in game don't reflect the bic values...

any help????

Nope, can't help you.

As for "uninstalling", the next time I uninstall Civ 3 it will be STAYING uninstalled. Enuf.

I can't even rename units with the game Editor in the basic non-LWC mod without getting crashes.

Hey...i have been gone a while. (too long)

is the LWC mod still in progress?

Plutarck,
Do you need any Civ3 v1.21 saved games (with/without LWC Mod) to work with? I remember before when you requested Civ3 games played out to modern era saved in zip format submitted to this thread. Would anything like that help you these days?
