my first non flying, non swimming unit, was a request from Thomas SG,
the M 270 MLRS

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M270_Multiple_Launch_Rocket_System

the model has 392 triangles, 548 vertices and a 256 skin
uses mobile SAM animation
scale for picture was 0,7

the texture could need minor tweaks, but i lost interest for now (worked too long on this model) and i think it´s even so releasable, perhaps i will do later (or somebody else)

finally a mobile SAM model :)

I never found a good drawing or photo for M270 texture.
If you have one, i can help you to reskin it.

My first thought was M 270? MRLS I understand. :goodjob:

Would you be interested in doing some WW II versions (I was thinking of a Katyusha rendering and the German equivalent - forget the name, as I'm answering a phonecall right now...)?

thanks

but it´s no SAM unit it´s a rocket artillery: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocket_artillery

it wouldn´t also be fun now ;) some Faces have a strange unwrap, (eg. the doors). if i can see it again in blender i have to go back and make some changes (and add additonal details to the texture). It´s far away from beeing perfect, but i found it good enough for a first release

something like this? ;)

and do you mean this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panzerwerfer as german version?

Hmmm, a bit of a fine print issue; SAMs are missiles, aren't they?

Anyway, I wasn't sure about the Katyusha (thx for the heads up!), but the German version isn't the Panzerwerfer (odd name, BTW, as it translates as "Tankthrower"), but the Nebelwerfer, more accurate than the Katyusha, which was basically launchpipes on a truckbase, so very cheap and already encountered in the first months of Barbarossa. (Typically the Germans went for quality instead of quantity, whereas the Soviets just settled for lots and lots of units, easy to build and maintain.)

Surface to Air Missile are missiles, but the purpose is a complete different ;)

Panzerwerfer, yes it funny to translate it Tankthrower (i must think at a modern "Hercules", throwing tanks all overthe battlefield ), better would be tank based (missile) thrower on or amoured (missile) thrower (and it would fit the meaning of the german word). Simply a rocket thrower on a light tank, amoured vehicle.

A lot of folks were wanting one of those... nice work Coyote.

..phew, you were faster than me again :D (Guess i wont ever make a *mainstream* realistic unit...:crazyeye:)
Turned out very nice! I dont see any major problems with the skin..
..maybe the base of the actual rocket launcher is a little dark and the doors could be more visible, but that wouldnt require a new UV map as far as i can see...
..nicely done!

Yes, but systems like the Katyusha and MLRS are more accurately called SSM, or Surface-to-Surface Missiles, as opposed to Surface-to-Air Missiles. The first part of the name denotes the missile launch location, but the second denotes where the target is. There are also
AAM - Air-to-Air Missiles (like the Sparrow)
AGM - Air-to-Ground Missiles (like the Maverick)
ASM - Anti-Ship Missiles (like the Harpoon)

To date, we have no new mobile SAM models, unless you are counting the shoulder-launched SAM models, which are more accurately described as MANPADS (Man Portable Air Defense System). It would be great if someone did a S-300PMU or S-300V model (or even 2S6), but no such luck as of yet.

After a very, very long and boring day - I can't believe my eyes. You finished the MLRS. And it is a really good one. Fantastic job. You made my day. Thanks from me and all players and members of CCV. :goodjob:

Okay, a reskin could be usefull but the model is an A. But may I ask you to make it A+? Because there is a small mistake. If I knew how to work with blender I would try it myself. There are two areas missing. So it looks a bit strange. Please have a look at the screenshot.

Can you add the missing areas?

And thanks again for the cool stuff and of course I'll give you credit in the next release of CCV. Great job.

Man, that thumbnail picture you have there is freakin' HUGE!!!

And i asked myself if somebody will complain about this ;). It was already on my to do list and will be done when i´m in the mood to open the model in blender again.

Download updated, fixes UV-map errors (to make reskining easier), added missed faces, slightly reworked texture and FX version added. Consider the last as test, it worked for me, but it´s also my first shot in this direction

I can't get this unit to use its interface. Everytime I click on it, it stays on the interface of the last unit I was on instead of moving to the MLRS.
