Mad Scientist's RPC summary

Just finished up my game. no early rushes for me, unfortunately. I had no iron or bronze until much later, and by then i was just about to finish gunpowder. 10 civs were wiped out. 5 of them were by me, and one of those was because of culture. Frederick wiped out Alex, and Isabella wiped out the rest. I was almost going to destroy mansa because of culture too. In the end i ended up winning an AP diplo victory. Every single city had buddhism in it. My rival was Willem who had switched out to free religion, so i won by a landslide. I'd just finished rifling and was on my way to cannons, so a domination win would have been too easy too. Not hard to destroy a civ when they only have 1 city.

A philo leader would make it really easy by settling all those GPs. Industrious would be good too. Expansive is actually a good choice , as i had infinite happiness through HR, but was health limited most of the game. Any resourceless UU would be perfect too.

I play on a laptop so my computer should be about the same as Mad's. I can handle normal maps fine, larges slow down a bit but are still playable, and have trouble with huge maps. 18 civs on a duel map runs about the same as a standard game with the standard civs.

Heh, I play on a laptop too. A good one, but it's 3 years old...

It's pretty much the same for me, except large is still pretty playable, but huge is pretty annoying.

I still think a normal 18 civs duel map is too easy. I just tried one at Noble and COULD have won it very easily in like turn 200...I didn't capture the final city for a domination because I didn't want the really high score to appear in my HOF.

OK, you all have inspired me. I will try an 18 AI Pangea game, and it may be the next one. Which leader you ask.

Why of course only 1 I can think of. Julius Caesar!!! Too easy you say, Prats extreme? Nonesense. He wins by vassaling every civilization that is not killed off by another AI. He can war early but must leave at least 1 city to capitulate to JC! No civilization may be left, so no domination (it will be turned off). This is harder than it sounds.

The Mad Scientist's democratic household has ordered a new computer that I may be granted occasional access to. This way I can play at least this one RPC on it, what a family!!!!

And of course for historical relevance, let's hand pick those AIs!!!

My essentials in order (I want techers, peacenicks, backstabber, war-mongers; I want a mix!)

Hannibal
Alexander
Brennus
Hatshepsut
Saladin
Justinian
Charlemagne
Cathy
DeGaulle
Asoka
CHurchhill
Hammarabi
Gilgamesh
Darius
Qin
Musa
Zara
Ragnar

All regions known by the Romans although some modern leaders in there.

What do you guys think.

ROME, All or nothing!

I'd add Isabella and Joao (or exchange them for someone else), the Iberian peninsula was the first area colonized by Rome outside of present day Italy.

OK,

Cathy
Churchill
DeGaulle

are out (more modern leaders)

Isabella
Joao
Muhmed (Haven't seen in an RPC yet)

are in representing Roman Areas rather than leaders of the time

Hey, you can't leave out DeGaulle, if only as a tribute to JC's famous book De Bello Gallico :), or ignore JC's conquest of Britain. Boudica would be a good choice for that, and more contemporary to JC than either Brennus or one of the English.

I'm really disappointed!!! Where is Sury, your true love?

Sury's in the jungles and frankly I have had enough of him for awhile!!!! Qin is about as far away from Rome as I will go and that's because of the stronge early chinese empire.

OK, my revised list with a few explainations

1)Hannibal: The Mortal enemy of Rome.
2)Alexander: The coolest of the two Greeks, and the most "entertaining"
3)Justinian: To prove once and for all that Byzantium is really just part of Rome.
4)Charlemagne: And what, Regular Rome is NOT Holy. We shall see.
5)Boudica: The mean Mama from teh British islands.
6)Hatshepsup: The creative Egyptian.
7)Darius: The economy Persian although he will likely be eaten alive in this game.
8)Asoka: That distant, somewhat heard of land of Indian
9)Qin: The even more far off Chinese leader.
10) Arabia: Since there was an Arabia during Rome's time, if not very well settled.
11) Hammarabi: The inventor of Laws for the Masters of Law!
12) Gilgamesh: Ancient history for Rome, but leads a good region
13) Mehmed: The Anatolia region was very important for Rome, so he's in for geographical flavor.
14) Isabella: Again for an important Roman region.
15) Joao: Ditto.
16) Zara: The mysterious civilization south of Egypt
17) Mansa Musa: Legendary Mali leader who is money crazy
18) Napolean: Just because I feel we need one more jerk leader

On the outs, England/Russia/Germany.

Rules are: Domination disabled. JC must vassal all AIs to win and cannot wipe out any civilization (he can burn Barb cities at will though). If one civilization wipes out another, well nothing to do there. Otherwise ROME can do whatever ROME wants to do!

OK, I looked at the latest poll for the next RPC. Looks like Stalin #1, and Louis #2.

I will jump ahead to the Louis game, followed by Stalin as I have a pretty good idea how I want to play it.

"The Annoying French"

Louis starting on a Terra map, old world Europe!

Leaders hand picked

Peter
Fred
Suliman
Elizabeth
Isabella
Willem

General ruels I am working out

1) Louis must use all resources he has to harrass Elizabeth who he has an intense dislike of. these include
A) NO open borders with her, ever.
B) He can never trade with her.
C) He must expand towards her unless land in the opposite direction is extremely attractive.
D) He cannot declare war on her UNTIL after astronomy. However, it is encouraged he get others to DoW on her.
E) He must drive teh English completely off the Old Europe Continent. However it is preferred he keep her alive on a new world continent so he can harras her some more.

2) Old Europe is such a fine land, Louis can never settle a colony in the new world.

3) Paris MUST hit 300,000 culture before Louis can win.

4) Finally, for a touch of interest. French wine is the absolute best and Louis must corner the Old World Wine market. He must control all wine resources, or have a vassal that has the needed wineries and trade for them. He can never own or trade for New World winery, California wine just is not as good!

All Victory condition are open for Louis.

What do you all think???

Good (and funny) variant.

For both 'historical aspect' and fun, I would change (2) for
"Louis should have settlement/colony next to the english ones, so they can continue their querelling aboard" (think : 'Louisiane /East coast' (futur US), quebec/canada or MiddleEast partition after WW1).

It is fine if you lose (some of) your colony to England (even if it was not during THIS Louis reign).

Jabah

PS - What about someone 'helping' you with the map to have England in a big island just next door.

I have always viewed Louis as a comic character in this game, because of his looka and taunts. SO I say, play it up!!!

Good idea about those colonies, I may allow it. I can then liberate the cities!!!

Another note, Louis needs to adopt HR ASAP and cannot leave. We want no doubt that Louis is the KING!

Another 'fun and semi-accurate' option could be :
Paris (to be rename Versailles?) should be the most cultural city on Earth (after a certain date) whatever the cost (with your Wonder Spamming planned that should be not a problem).
If an AI is 'pissing Louis off' by trying to build a better city, he should finish in Jail (vassal or eliminated).

Also Bureaucracy asap and not leaving it?

Jabah

Ps History : Louis didn't accept that one of 'high level counselor/minister' try to build himself a better Palace than his Versailles.

Last will be Sitting Bull, in tribute to Slobbering Bear who got me addicted to these RPC games!

If you want some historic approach for Louis XIV, Mercantilism should be a top priority! Also building Versailles should be included.

Good luck!
