MadV2!!

If you guys can bear with me for another 18 hours or so I can get this up Tuesday night.

Otherwise I'll take a skip.

Not quite sure what to do here.....so I rushed the temple in Chengdu.

Going to try and organize a strike force for Sumeria....

But first I notice we have no embassies, and I ask myself how are we going to steal technology with no embassies....

And then I wonder why we are building the Heroic Epic when Bergen could use a bank, or a temple, or even a new latrine, so I swap to a bank, then pull every galley I can into port for upgrade...

Anyway the net result is I spend down the treasury rushing stuff and setting up embassies and upgradin galleys and like that, so I have to turn down the research budget, but the spending isn't helping our economy anyway because there isn't anyone out there to buy what we learn anyway.

In 1345 sell Metallurgy to the Koreans for 38g+3gpt.

And Sumer builds Bach's in Kish with the SGL they got for learning ToG.

In 1355 the Hittites and Sumer get into war over the northern half of the little island south of worker Island

In 1365 we lose Chengdu (why did we ever take that town in the first place?)

In 1375 Sumer builds Smith's.

In 1375 upgrade some carvels to galleons and park some berserks next to the Sumerian town on the new Chinese isle south of the iron and saltpeter island.

Taking Marad will eliminate the Sumerian Saltpeter.

I am not having a good feeling about the end game in this one. It is going to be a tough, tough fight. Sumeria is the big dog and they are posssibly only one tech away from Nationalism which gives them rifles.

Got it, can't play tonight, should have time tomorrow. Time to discus.
Are we down to 5 turns in this SG as well?? Whom do we want to introduce to our cavalry? Do we go for an easier target first or go for a big dog and try to get some allies?

If you delcare on Sumeria and then ally with Korea there won't be any tech trading.

As you can see I prefer the go after the big dog choice.

Looks like it is back in my hands.

See what I can get done about the diplomatic situation.

This is madness....We have the bulk of our 'zerk forces on land in hostile territory, only caravels to carry our troops, and the Sumerian army is bearing down on us and the strongest defense we have is cavalry at three and the weakest attacker Sumeria is putting forward is a four. Most of our muskets are at home....and our saltpeter island has absolutely no troops to take out the Sumerian town right next door.

Hire the Chinese to fight on our side against the Sumerians, it costs us 296g which I reclaim by selling China horses, then wipe out the Sumerians in front of Hopeless, and recall the caravels to pick up the survivors. Then kill a Sumer mace outside of Tatung. And hope there are no others in Kutha.

Karistad withstands a Sumer crusader but we lose a musket. Rush muskets in the other towns as well as Karistad. Load the wounded at Hopeless into the remaining caravel and hope the surivivors withstand the next Sumerian onslaught so I can Dunquerque them out of there.

That was hopeless....

And the loss of Hopeless causes war weariness in our largest homeland cities and riots break out all over.

Then I wonder why we have cavlary in our armies anyway. They are more expensive than the 'zerk, cannot attack from ships...we should have been building muskets for 60 and zerks for 70 and sending them out in 50/50 groups of at least four galleon loads.

In 1475 Sumeria lands two boatloads of troops at Anyang, our iron town. It is defended by a single zerk....

Take a look arounbd in 1480 and realize that the island taken from the Chinese is going to go to the Sumerians soon, so I give the towns back to China. I wasn't thinking and forgot to give Fauske to the Chinese so it falls to Sumer and riots break out at home again.

In 1485 get a victory of sorts and capture Kutha, it burns and I resettle in the center of the island.

1490-1500 are spent trying to figure a campaign plan. The saltpeter island is well defended now, I think, so the zerks are recalled home to join up with the flotilla building at Stavanger. If we want iron sail at least four boats north to Alesund, one boat full of muskets, and take it from Sumer, leave the muskets there and sail the zerks to a mid ocean meeting point with the forces from Stavanger. We do need iron to build cannon and frigates and cheap land based attackers (maces).

The alliances now in place include China against Sumer and Korea and Celts against both Sumer and Korea. That should draw off the Sumerians and Koreans to China and Gaul, at least for a while, so our homeland should be safe. The alliances have been secured with Incense and cash payments.

There are luxuries to buy from the Celts but let the war weariness ease a little before doing so as they should then be cheaper (It will take at least two to have noticeable impact).
