Mafia: Information, Announcements, and Discussion

See, Zack? PC=PostCount. NOT Political Compass.

Why else would we bump it up then?

Tak, you know I can't be bothered with trivial numbers after the tenths.

anyways I want to reiterate that I think large games should extend to 25+ at the very least rather than 20+

would prefer to have a "medium" category, as that gives some telling stuff about game balance, etc.

I agree that we can establish "medium" category (21-30?).
But queue for games should be still like it is now: 1 small mafia game at time, and one medium/large. So, it would be only cosmetic distinction

I honestly don't get the point of making a separate medium category, if those would just replace small games. Besides, there are already so few small games in comparison to large games on the queue...

You could always make it a NOTW. Nowadays, those are usually 25 - 30 players and don't necessarily have to be in the FFH universe.

Compared to our "brother site", if you will, the org, our small games are already rather big. Especially considering how it seems as if every small game goes for the maximum twenty. I feel like either allowing small games to be bigger or creating the medium game category would render small games even more obsolete than they already are.

However, we could create a "mini game" category, with no limits as to how many can be run. That could possibly mitigate the decline of small games.

Spoiler :
Heh, I feel like Catharsis now, resisting change.

Maybe you're just undergoing a catharthic phase of your life, having repented the heretical sayings about dropping your forum life.

Well 'cuz a problem with the queue right now is that there are like 5 small games and 3 or 4 of those are inactive people/people who haven't shown up in a while.

And I really think for balance/creative themes 25 roles is perfectly fine for a "small" game; also, majority of small games will have like 1 mafia faction while a medium game can have 2, or more unique stuff going on. I don't really care what the org is doing on that issue because it's still an arbitrary cut off, and hosting a notw doesn't address the mafia queue we have at cfc now.

I'm not really sure the queue is serving its intended purpose. It seems to be largely filled with game ideas, but how many actually come to fruition? I know I've posted a few times in there, but then had to withdraw because I haven't got time to host. So it's not really a very accurate queue, and sometimes the conventions of a queue (i.e. the first in the queue being the next up) aren't very stringently followed.

The other problem is the lack of small games, but this may be due to the fact that the queue is encouraging people to post their grand ideas that aren't going to come to fruition, rather than posting what they are actually going to be able to do. If the queue were for games that were ready to go, then I think it would serve a more useful purpose, and would encourage small games.

Yeah, and what I'm saying is that the 'in design' ones should simply be done away with. No need to have a queue of games people are thinking about making. The queue should just be for games that are ready to go.

The assumption is that the "in-design" games are ones that the host has actually made progress on, and plans to host in the future. Real, tangible work has been done on the game, past the point of merely a simple idea.

Real, tangible work has been done on my game. Which now has a name. It's called
The Great Council: A Mafia Game

Or maybe just adding category "mini game" (up to 12, or up to 15 players) to the small and large?
And there can be one mini game in time?

I really hate to push any people out of line or anything, but the beginning of August is most likely going to be my last chance to host a large game for a reeaaaalllly long time.

Therefore, I want to unleash A Villain's Paradise on the world around that time. I want the game to start at the beginning of August, but I am on vacation from July 18 - 30, so I'm in a bit of a pickle on when to start sign-ups. Open the sign-up thread somewhere around the 15th - 18th, making it clear that the game is to start at the beginning of August? I can definitely have the game ready by then, and trust me -- it will be awesome. Hopefully.

Is that okay with everyone? :) I promise you won't have to deal with a large game with me for almost a year (at least) after this one.

Can I reserve a spot for a next small game? I would like to host it in July
