Mammoth

Yang Liu, would it be possible to put a man firing a rifle from a howdah or in place of the spearman on the mammoth? I am going to try to work a War Mammoth unit into an Arctic scenario.

The mammoth is cute!

I look forward to some cool new units!

RedAlert, babies are cute, kittens/puppies/bunnies are cute. Little kids in Halloween costumes are cute (sometimes). Mammoths are not cute. Big, hairy, terrifying beasts, but not cute.

 I suppose so.
It's just that as a crazed animal lover, I can't help wanting to give the mammoth a big hug!

Hi Madeira
I will produce some Mammoth units, when I have free time.
Do you like this ?

This is very nice, but I would suggest to play the downward movement a little faster, could prehaps bring in a little more "STOMP".

When the mammoth's front legs rise, the knees should bend a little. When they drop back to the ground they should unbend. I know it's feasible (in theory at least).
Great work!

A suggestion for the mammoth would be to change the texture of the skin to better fit with the fur that you put on it.

I again think that the difference is good.. makes it seem like fur that has seen some cold, rainy and windy days.. really wild.

Just to let everyone know, I think it is safe to say that this unit will not be made available.

Tom

Out of curiosity, why not? That would be a great additional to the Unit Library.

Because the author hasn't posted here in the last 23 days?

People say that sort of thing all the time. At any rate, I think it's up to him to make such announcements if he wishes to.

I'm sure you all know that I'm more than happy to discuss these issues via PM if anyone wishes to, but this thread isn't the place for it.

LOL Balthasar, my thoughts exacly.

And although I agree with Tom, I would very much like to be surprised and see some new units from Yang Liu, especially this one.

This is very pity... :(
I was astonished at the quality of animal units by Liu Yang. The mammoth-elephants-chariots units by him look like they are miniature replicas of living things. Very pity that I came too late :(

Judging by the discussion above he made his mammoth really big - and that is very good because at the end of the Pleistocene there were two mammoth species on Earth - the well-know woolly mammoth (that was approximately the size of the Asian elephant of to-day) and less-known GIANT Columbian mammoth from the southern part of the USA (roughly the area of the later Aztec civ). The latter was much less hairy (if any at all).
The giant mammoth someone was talking about was the relic 'Sungari" mammoth from the North China and it was probably extinct by the time of H. sapiens arriving to the Far East.

Respected Liu Yang artist, if you decide to make more wonderful animal units, is there a chance that you can decide to make a realistic wooly rhinoceros (the size of todays' black rhino) and giant Siberian Elasmotherium? (giant hump-back long-legged galopping rhino with one huge horn on its forehead, the size of an Asian elephant)
