Maps & Scenarios

Could you guys add some more civs to the map such as the Aborigines to Australia and Tupi to the Amazon? Maybe even the Huns to the Asiatic Steppes to counter the Russias and the Mongolians.

Yes, and weren't the huns the reason for the goths to completely "flee" into the roman empire, bidding to be able to settle in one of their provinces behind the save border of the roman empire, to which they were already mercenaries for decades, then...

DH made some python file that added Terrain features to a "regular" map, i used that when i was using my personal maps, it is the ONLY one of its kind in Civ4, i thought it was great, but when we added a ton more features it was never updated, too much work. But if someone had the "time.?"

Sounds interesting, must have missed it.. You mean the ice sculptures and desert formations you also plan to use for mars/moon map? Or what do terrain features do, like that you can edit a tile to have special defense bonus or a very high food output or stuff? I think I might begin to understand...

It only did the new terrain features. The rock formations and new plants (not resources) and coral. iirc. I still have it somewhere.

I will put those on my to-do list. I totally agree with adding the Huns for balancing reasons. I love crowded maps so I don't mind any additions :)

To make a short story short: originating in nowadays Weichsel region but historically most effective between ukraine, greece and rome (if you spare out the western goths spanish empire that lasted for quite some time), Koshlings Transsylvania is the right spot, imho.

Thanks for the info DRJ!

Alter to Cheatcode: chipotle in the civ4.ini, then in the game hit the ~ key, then enter game.toggledebugmode. In that, holding shift over a tile will reveal its coordinates.

Could you please take your GEM map stuff and move it the the separate forum for GEM maps now, thx, so this thread will be for all the other maps/Scenarios, but PLEASE NO longer anything about GEM Thx. Its just getting to much stuff here about 1 map, thx.:)

Then change the 1st post of this one with ONLY other maps/scenarios, that are out there thx.

@DRJ I have no experience with building maps. Do you have a latest one which I can run tests on to put the new sea plots on? Is there some special format I need to save it in for you?

Hey DH! The first map in question is called GEM 38 civs and should be part of the /private maps in SVN, I think. After converting, just leave it in worldbuildersave (scenario) format. Or if this doesn't work as a map to which the civs have to be re-edited in again, would not be that big of a prob.

After you converted it, I am gonna have to do some manual adjustments like editing in gulf stream running to northern europe instead of arctic waters there.

Secound map thats worked on atm is the standard earth map Ridespiral23 does, so maybe ask him for a copy of his recent work, too.

PhilipSchall also works on GEM maps but with less and other civs, he might mant to have his working maps to be converted as well!

Start a C2C game with the settings and civs you want in game. Use world builder to save, you can manually edit at this stage.

If you have a map you want to port into this C2C ( prob a BTS pre made made map withoutterrain and resources), you copy past the map generating detail and plots from that save to overwrite the same data contained in the worldbuilder save you created, ie if you wanted to chop the new world from GEM, you delete the map plots from say 60 onwards to the east, and 115 downwards to the south, resize the map detaila nd plot numbers, this method allows you to cut portions of maps for use as smallermaps without to much manual edditting.

Thered is also a fan made BTS map editor in the downloads section.

Thx for this little explanation. Going to include it in a little 'how to map C2C' documentation at some point.

To clarify to the casual lurkers: DH asked for the maps as he has written a python script to convert normal ocean/coast only maps to arctic/normal/tropical coast due to latitude, so not thousands of plots have to be edited by hand.

Np.

The map downloads at civfanatics contains a number of interesting maps, getting them working in game for C2C for editing will poss be the first step people will want to know, i would guess. Once they have them working, knowing they can copy past sections over from other maps, and that resources can be randomized for the maps or set in stone, will get them up an running:).

@ DRJ or Hanny

If either of you could possibly explain to me the process of making other maps work with C2C so that I can begin editing them for C2C that would be very helpful!

This is a cut down version of GEM, it has the old world but not the new.

To get in to play in C2C, download the file from the link and save it to worldbuilder saves ( you have a short cut to it in the civ folder). open it in notepad, and minimise. Open a C2C game with the settings you want, inc the civs you want. Open worldbuilder and save it, close game and open the worlbuilder save of thatgame. copy from the start of the file down to where it ends the player info player 49 end player.

Past those game settings and player info over the same info in the C2C worldbuilder save you just created, this gives you C2C needs from the settings and players, and gives you the map from the downloaded map without that info. save and reopen this file, then you can manually edit using worldbuilder to change terrian /resources.

Since we are edditting a GEM map, that updated info for V21 is around for resources and terrain, so we can use notepad to copy past it in once you geta handle on which lines corrspond from teh whole GEM map, to the cutdown old world.

To get almost all maps in play, at a basic level so as to edit them all you need do is replace the map generating and plots detail to the settings and civs of a c2C game you have in worldbuilder.

Note: its always easier to copy past the least info when doing this so copy past the least info to the map plots, ( all the settings and civ details) select all and copy past back to a C2C file when trying to get a warlords/BRS map to work for C2C. Thatmay make less sense but you will quickly see what i mean when you start to do it from an old ( looks like a helmet) worldbuilder save, to create a new C2C worldbuilder save.

Im told there is still resources awaiting to come into play, which is why ive held off converting any maps, but have trolled the pre made map section for those that intrest me.

I tried what you said and it wasn't too bad. Sounded confusing at first haha. Thanks Hanny!

Yeah I figured I could just add in the extra resources as they get released without too much work. I just finished up converting a standard earth map and my next project is a Europe Map.

@DH
Here is the (mostly) completed standard earth map if you would like to convert the ocean tiles. Will I need to edit the civs back in or no? I plan on releasing a set of 3 standard earth maps with varying amounts of civs so it wouldn't be too much of a problem for me to edit them back in anyway.

I may release the "map pack" before you convert the ocean tiles depending on when you get around to it so people can begin play testing it for balance etc. Thank you!!

Also of intrest is the animal frequency, this comes from a long time ago when more barbs more quickly ment harder difficulty, yet the newer dynmics of buchering and cults etc actually make more animals in play, make it easier to get ahead, so its counter intuative to put more of them in play at intended higher difficulty levels as you just makeing it easier to get them as there are more of them, aquire more science/herds/food ect.

Of course number of civs in play ( standard map with 20 odd civs gives few animals) but huge map with 6 starts gets you a tonn of animals which a spearman with hunting will soon role out scores of kills. Personly i like the second themed style of play, but it is something to think about when your new to the game and wondering what kind of game your getting at harder difficulty.
