March Patch Notes (formerly february)

I had one last pre-patch game tonight. Went for a cultural victory and had quite a bit of fun.

Not sure whether to start another game now or not; as I will likely be playing 'til late if I do.

Can I ask if my assumption is correct on something though;

Does this patch support a fewer-city playstyle? I tend to enjoy it most with a 3-5 city game as I find I can manage those better - this patch seems to fit this playstyle more than the old *spread yourself far and wide* vibe.

Any comments on this specifically would be greatly appreciated.

i am neutral on the newest patch. i just obliterated rome, it seems reasonably difficult.

Are the DLC civs available for multi in the patch as advertised? I have the patch and it has the correct version #, but the dlc civs are still not available.

I see. Hey Sneaks, I guess that since you're the best modder who handles diplomacy, you could make your WWGD mod compatible with the latest patch?

Thats the plan.

My order of operation is first to play a few games myself before getting my mods up to pace.

any words on it being compatible with old saves? thx guys

Fully compatible... just finished my aforementioned Persian game with the "Buy win" victory I was aiming for (First game as Persia, I wanted to try something different and go for "Eternal Golden Ages", had one that stopped out at 101 turns)... but the AI definitely noticed what win I was going for, and stingied right up when I started getting above 6/7 CS allies, wouldn't pay for anything anymore. And the other ones going for that win type (Alex, RamhamwhateverthehellSiamis) got quite snippy once they saw what I was up to, and denounced... but everyone else didn't follow! *gasp*!

Finally, getting close, UN Built, counting down to the vote, Cathy (on my continent) sees I'm about to win, and goes from "Friendly" to "Declaring War" in like 5 turns... the next turn, Alex (Who was the score leader and had about 2/3 of the other continent) declares, and starts targeting my CS allies over there which he can reach... A timely Golden Age gave me the gold to get over the top on the first vote, and I doubt that enough of my CS Allies would have survived to the 2nd, 2 of them were in the yellow against numerous Greek units.

For anyone else, are you missing the map icons for Ring and Skirmish, and the mouse-over Tool Tip for skirmish?

Whoa, I don't know what did they fix about denouncements, but THIS IS MADNESS! :crazyeye:

It's a shitstorm of denouncements and DoF's at the speed of light! :crazyeye:

First 50 turns - friends with Washington, then denounced by Washington, 50 turns later friends again, then backstabbed by Washington... :crazyeye: Still better than before though... Also DO NOT conduct diplomacy with Washington, unless you're in the mood for random. He's a goddamn psycho.

Now something interesting...

I just spawned 3 different GP in one city in one turn... simultaneously. How about that!? Was this possible all along!?

Holy crap, beelined Meritocracy, picked a Great Scientist and plopped down an Academy on a spare tile. I think that decision alone has netted me a 3 or 4 tech advantage and I'm not even through the Classical era.

Well, if you look at the guy's history, he did go to war with his own monarch...

... whose army he served in, fighting the French with whom he allied 20 years later.

So yeah, sounds like historically correct behaviour for Washington.

Did I say otherwise? I was alluding to the fact that he's historically the type to be willing to attack "friends" or people who were at one point. Few leaders in Civ can make a claim that they essentially went to war with their own country, rebelling against their legally recognized government to create a new one. As such, he seems kind of an ideal candidate for turning on "allies."

That's the idea, to lessen the effect of sprawl (ICS) and promote vertical growth. Several things like increasing city space and the addition of the aqueduct are particularly aimed at this.

I suppose the optimum number of cities to build depends on strategy. The fewer built reduces culture requirements for social policies, so often two or three cities is good and the rest captured/puppeted, though 3-5 seems best in general. Depends on the resources within reach of course. Every game is different.

he was agreeing with you, you know

Too early to praise or dis the new patch. A strange thing that is happening is that im being told my declaration of friendship must be renewed, even though i havent declared a single friendship with any civ. Every request i have also turned down. Yet this message about renewal of friendship comes up all the time for every ai in my game. oh well, the fine tuning of this game will go on i guess...
