Picked this up on release date back in February, and I'm playing through for a second time right now. I must say I'm really impressed. I'm quite into sci-fi, so things like this should appeal to me but Mass Effect seems to have an appeal of its own. I particularly like being able to replay as different classes, switching from Vangaurd to Engineer for my second playthrough offered a refreshing change of pace.

What's your opinions on ME2? It's very highly rated by most leading review sites, but I understand people may have varying views.

Great great game. My only gripe with it was the lack of a proper equipment system and loot. That being said, the Mass Effect 1 equipment system/loot was quite tedious and boring so if they were going to do the same, I prefer no system at all like in ME 2.

One of the best sequels I have seen in a long time and a prime example on how to streamline a great game without dumbing it dow. The upgrade system is much better than the vendor trash collection in ME1 and the only weak point is the tedious and completely borign planet scanning minigame.

Great game. The new ammo system sucks though. The way it worked in ME1 with the heat buildup was so much better.

A few times I've found myself without ammo for any of my weapons... That definately shouldn't happen, especially in an RPG like this.

Hopefully the success of ME2 won't go to their heads and produce a suckish sequel to this, as often happens with the third game in a trilogy. Even though ME3 is the end of Shepard's story, I think there's a lot more to be explored in the Mass Effect universe.

Yeah, when I finished the game I was kind of thinking "that can't be just a trilogy, there's a whole universe of this setting to explore". That speaks a lot about how alive the game is. When I finished ME1 and ME2, both times I was really anxious to follow the story and know what happens next.

Man I hope there'll be a Mass Effect MMO! I wanna be a turian. :D

Fantastic game. Not a single part I didn't love about it to be honest. The planet scanning wasn't the greatest but probably a step up from the monotonous driving mini game. the combat was better than ME1 but it's still a bit away from being as smooth as GoW2, but definately a step in the right direction.

I even found myself reading through the glossary section. Found it sufficiently interesting to go get the graphic novel and I'll probably pick up some of the books when I get round to it.

Can't wait for ME3. Unfortunately for me, I picked up ME1 in the bargin bin just a few months before ME2 came out so I didn't have long to wait for the sequel. Now I've got.... what? 2 years maybe? Damn :(

I've read the books too. I'm not much of a fiction fan, but they were pretty good. Interesting enough for me to finish.

Just played through the Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC, the first one bridging the gap between ME2 and ME3. Easily worth my money, just like the Overlord DLC was a few months ago. I was especially happy to not have to leave things hanging with Liara  And finding the Shadow Broker's dossier files on a lot of the Normandy crew was hilarious  Grunt's extranet searches in particular were awesome :rotfl:

I've heard that it's playable before then, perhaps after you complete the vanilla game's Liara missions, but decided to play on a completed game file because that was one that had already romanced her (import from ME1). From the dialogue during the confrontation with the Shadow Broker, it seems like it's assumed that you do it after the Suicide Mission - there's a mention of being able to use the Normandy's IFF to go over "what's left of the Collector base". Maybe that dialogue changes if you do it before hitting the Omega 4 Relay, I dunno.

ME2 is a great sequel and, as someone pointed, is one of the extremely few examples of "streamlining without dumbing it down" (which, admitedly, own half of its success due to ME1 having quite a bit of a hurdle in its system, making a streamlining actually a good thing).

I think that the very real "special appeal" of the game is due to its well-done concept of "playing a movie". The whole game is made like a good action movie, and it stays consistent. A delicate alchemy that I hope they will still be able to handle, as the main risk of such a thing is that it can very easily fall into "dumbed down non-game". But as for ME2, it actually works well, my hat is off.

They're definitely making the game even "more cinematic" - if you can say such a thing - with the new DLC. It's difficult to describe, but the chase through Illium was a pretty good instance of that. Cutscenes and conversations moved a lot better, with less of the broken-up nature of conversations through dialogue that you sometimes get. And if you had a relationship with Liara, Paragon interrupts ended up being really important, giving the romance a more realistic feel, in my opinion - you know, seizing the opportune moment and all that.

yeh ive heard its different dialogue but i dont have any saves before the suicide mission, havent played it with my shep who romanced her yet, this shep also didnt uncover what nyxeris was up to so maybe that has an impact
