Mass Effect 2

Spoiler :
With Horizon, you got there late and only saved about 1/3rd of the colony, and got the defense towers on-line, the Collector ship only seems to have the one main gun and perhaps they didn't want to waste too much time and risk getting caught by alliance reinforcements. Their mission, after all, was to collect humans, not engage in open warfare. Saren had already left Ilos with most of the Geth to invade the Citadel. I did wonder too why the Bloodpack had so few people at their HQ, but then again, have you seen the farms of Tuchanka? Yeah, I haven't either. Krogan aren't likely to really want to sit around and wait anyways, if they are in the bloodpack there is money to be made offworld as mercenaries, not guarding their HQ/or some lab on their homeworld. I didn't get the sense that the other Krogran were likely a threat to the bloodpack either.

Well there were even less Geth on the Citadel than on Ilos, so I don't buy that. Legion said that there are something like a million Geth, so the Heretics have a population of 5% of that, or 50,000; considering this was the most important mission in their history, you'd think that you'd see more than 100-some Geth in Shepard's way.

On the matter of Horizon: I'm willing to accept that you're only fighting the rear-guard because most of the Collectors have already evacuated, but it's a bit inexcusable this consisted of only like a single battalion.

How about the ambush on the Collector ship? If they intended to kill or capture Shepard, it would've made more sense to have a lot more than what they attacked you with.

Only a million? When does Legion say that?

In regards to the Citadel, Shepard wasn't exactly the only resistance the Geth were up against. C-Sec would have been the primary opposition, numbering around 200,000+ personnel on-station. Most of the boarding Geth would have been tied up keeping that factor under control, allowing the rest to safely accomplish their objectives. Even so, when Shepard started getting noticeably close to Saren, the Geth made efforts to reinforce their positions with plenty of dropships and shock troops, but you can only divert so much when you're battling thousands of combatants across dozens of kilometers. :dunno: I'd say Shepard faced pretty fierce resistance given the circumstances.

Now the Collector ship ambush...they really dropped the ball on that one.

Well the citadel is gigantic and absolutely enormous, the Geth did attack the presidium first and spread out from there, though, yeah, there should have been more Geth fighting you.

Agreed with the "ambush" on the collector ship, it was pretty pathetic. That is a problem with game design and, well, consoles. Traditionally it seems console games do not have very many enemies on the screen due to limitations (limitations that are no longer nearly as limitating, and no games like Dynasty Warriors don't count, as the "massive amounts of enemies" basically stand there as you chop them down).

This "problem" appears in most games, from Halo to WoW to Total War. You already know the reason as to why it's happening, so why complain about it?

Well I'm not so sure. I originally also included Feros in my list, but then I checked the wiki and found out that it really is a colony with only 300 people, so what you fought was actually the entire invasion force.

It's entirely possible that warfare in the Mass Effect universe is always condensed to the hundreds due to the expenses in equipment or what not. I wonder if there will ever be some EU fluff to explain it.

Maybe there is. I wouldn't read the EU fluff books anyway, because Karpyshyn's writing them. The comic books were somewhat entertaining, but ultimately, they're comic books.

There certainly is, has and can be mass warfare, but open warfare is rare with most species preferring to avoid it. Most of the fighting seems takes place in raids on colony worlds, pirate, or slaver hideouts, raiding of trade routes, and mercenaries/criminals.

Not on Chaos they dont.

When I replay ME2 in a year, should I go for Warp Ammo? That's what most Insanity-level guides are telling me, but that seems superfluous for soldiers since they already have Disruptor and Incendiary Ammo. Seems like Geth Shield Boost would be a much better option.

Warp Ammo is fairly awesome, but if you take Jack with you, you probably won't need it. That's coming from someone who loves their adepts, but I've never done Insanity. :)

Squad Warp Ammo is useful on Collector missions on Insanity, so respec to that before Horizon, the Collector Ship, and the Suicide Mission. Most of the rest of the time, I tend to go with a Squad Cryo/Inferno Ammo/Area Drain combo which can be used to deadly effect as seen here.

(Not my videos, but those of the great Athenau)
