Mass Effect 3

Is that actually a fringe theory? I sort of assumed that was the case, because there's no other plausible explanation for Cerberus' financial and technological connections.

Overlord kind of militates against it, as does the tenor of a lot of dialogue, but there's a lot to be said for it, too, yeah. I'm on the fence.

What's funnier are the actual arguments deployed by both sides. :p

I haven't played Overlord so no comment on that.

The thought just occurred to me, but why exactly did the humans have such a large space fleet before they encountered the turians?

Because humans love big guns? :p

If you're going out into the unknown, why wouldn't you make sure you were as well prepared as possible for whatever you found? Especially if so much of your technology was based on solid, hard evidence that there was or had been Other Life in the Galaxy?

Not always true. Female Shepard's German voice actress is just as bad as Male Shepard's in the English, but Tali sounds noticeably cuter. Also Kasumi's voice actress is much better in German.

The scene where Mordin sings Gilbert & Sullivan, however, is dreadful in German. You can probably surmise why.
I meant in regards to Sovereign and the Reapers.

Really? I thought it was quite clearly detailed in the games (plus more mentioning of it in the novels as the Illusive Man is a major character in the 3rd novel) that Cerberus has many ways of getting money and equipment using a large number of legitimate companies (some of which clearly must be very, very large) as fronts. Most of the people working for the companies have no idea of its ties to Cerberus. Cerberus is clearly not part of the alliance, as they have numerous spies, agents and members throughout the alliance's hierarchy but are not all-knowing about Alliance activities.

Another epiphany, the main flaw to the "Cerberus is actually an Alliance black ops organization" theory is the fact that the Illusive Man could've calmed most of Shepard's doubts about Cerberus by simply telling her where Cerberus gets its funds.

Depends. If she's actually a Paragon, there's still the record of Cerberus' misdeeds (including, as Sole Survivor Shep, the whole Akuze thing) that would just induce her to oppose not just Cerberus, but whomever in the Alliance is ordering Cerberus to do this stuff, too.

Obviously there would be a mention of that if TIM told her that that was the case, wouldn't there? Can't you read more than one post above your own?

I misread your post.

On the bonus side, that gives Tali some extra shields that she badly needs.

So does Area Drain, or the GPS (which has enough range to keep her out of the hilariously ******** combat situations she gets into with the Evi/Katana/Scimitar). Or you could just equip her pistol instead, that's the standard way to get idiotic shotgun squaddies to not go leeroy jenkins on you.

Any theories about companions? Liara is the only one left guaranteed to be alive so she seems most likely to return... Out of all the potential dead Legion seems the easiest to revive.

In terms of former NPCs, I wouldn't mind seeing Kal'Reegar gain companion status.

Yeah I don't like how they've kind of written themselves into a corner, of course they could just revive everyone else like they did shepard

I actually expect very few companions to return as sidekicks. Rather, I'm guessing that each companion still alive will show up with a sidequest as a temporary companion (like Liara in LotSB).

Think about it: most people play paragon, so the default is that all of the companions survived, in which case there would be no room for new ones should they just all return as normal. And BioWare obviously isn't going to make (basically) two separate games to accommodate both a new crew for renegades and the entire old crew surviving for paragons.
