Master Map Change Thread

that's on my Hanukkah list, the British able to settle Vancouver at a reasonable time.
AI British? Just make British leaderheads (Alfred especially - if he lags in tech, further English leaders may appear too late to matter) Mansa Musa-like techmongers and make Eliza and Vicky have a slighlt flavor for Settlers. British AI success or failure is very dependent on technology. (They also perform better having 4, not 3 cities on the island for some reason).

By 4, do you mean Dublin London Edinburg and Newcastle/York? Or Longdon Edinburg Newcastle/York and Plymouth?

London, Inverness, Plymouth, Newcastle. Note that I said "island", not "islands/isles".

Yeah I noted that. It's just strange since I never see 4 cities on the main island.
Plymouth only has crab, after all. Almost no production.

Argentina already has wine.

Bah! Let them eat cake.

Probably just for aesthetics, but could a river be added either West or South of Washington to represent the Chesapeake?

Yeah, York Factory often makes its appearance in my games (I slightly buffed up the English AI's playstyle, though). It also sometimes gets conquered by the Americans (I made their leaders moderately aggressive, rather then current wimps. It's amusing how Firaxis made Lincoln and Roosevelt to be total unit underbuild wimps and Washington to be sorta wimpy still).

I'm thankful that's in place, if you didn't update to a version that included
the updated Minuteman UU for America with a low build cost.
They're still just as aggressive even without altering them, if only
because of the large throngs of Minutemen they produce.

There are 12 pages in thread, and more than half of it is about USA. Not fair, hehe.
So, here is my suggestions on Russia-related regions. (Some text is clickable)

First of all, the North.
Spoiler :

Add small river near Murmansk (Rosta River) to more :hammers: and :commerce:.
Move one fur from Vologda/Vyatka region or add new to Arkhangelsk and add one fish near it (city on Kola Peninsula should not be able to take this fish), so it will be point to settle Arkhangelsk.
REMAKE STABILITY MAP, because current is... is strange. Karelia and Kola Peninsula are Russian for centuries, but in this mod these areas count as "foreign area" for some reason.

Second, the South and the West.

Add marshes near Minsk area just like on this screenshot, or maybe a little east , because these resources (cow, horses and wheat) are usually taken by Poland (thanks to its UP), so settle Minsk is useless waste of :hammers: and :food:, but these marshes can improve gameplay and make Russian-Polish wars more interesting.

Add independent city with strong garrison, walls and castle that will not flip to the Ottomans to represent orthodox population of this area (Armenia, Georgia).
Add 1 wine near Odessa, add 1 wine near Caucasus.

Add one hill and replace some deserts with plains to buff this region. South Caucasus should be grasslands.

Flood plains near Astrakhan - have a look at map, and you will understand why I think it should be added. BUT, there will be one problem - Volgograd will be kind of megacity with a lot of :food: and :hammers:. Maybe reduce flood plains from two to one?

Move fish near Constantinople to north, move clam to east, so possible new cities can take this fish. But my plan probably will not work, because Constantinople has very strong culture. Maybe add one fish near Odessa?

Add 1 iron on the desert near Crimea to add more :hammers: for possible Ukrainian/coastal cities.

Make some changes in stability map.
Also, is it possible to change third UHV (have 5 communist friends) to this? Control European part of Russian Empire by x (1800?) year/allow no foreign cities in European Part of Russian Empire by x year. This will force the player to fight with Sweden (Finland, Baltic states and Karelia), Poland (Lvov and Baltic states) and the Ottomans (Caucasus, Crimea).

Third, the East.

As you can see, I added a lot stuff. IRL there are usually little settlements near each mine/factory, but this map is not so big to represent all these villages, so it would be ok to settle rare major cities that will connect all resources near itself.
Coal near Vladivostok, uranium, resources near Yakutsk, Magadan resources (yes, that's not very bright part of Russian history), oil near Sakhalin (it can be added at the end of game). Links about resources near Anadyr and Petropavlovsk are from Russian wiki, but :)
Maybe add one crab to Murmansk in ~1900?

Place grasslands under Yakutsk, replace west grassland with tundra, so there will not be city here. Place tundra under Anadyr, add more coasts.
Remove marsh under Blagoveshchensk, to make this city placement more accurate, move horses to west, so this city will not be able to take it, replace marsh with hill with Aluminium near Khabarovsk to represent metal mines of this area and simply to add more this resource to China/Japan/Korea, move whales to north, add fish to it to make Petropavlovsk more relevant.

Do not forget to remake stability maps.

I've checked, and it seems Norway hasn't fish too, so ok, let's think that crab and whales (or maybe only whales?) represent whole seafood industry of Kamchatka. Because Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky isn't very big city even nowadays.

Better resource replacement.

Only Petropavlovsk can cover copper and whales, which is on an ocean tile, like it should be.

And that city grows to Size 15-16 at max without city states. Part of the problem is that coast gives a population point, and I am not even going to start on City States.

It is a shame there is no sort of "shelf" tile with a coast equivalent graphic that only gives one food. I would not suggest to add it for obvious reasons ...

I like the way you think

As for the Russia changes, I believe you have added too many resources to the east. Murmansk stability is a given. And I already made my own changes to West Russia and Ukraine.

Adding a "shelf" tile would be very helpful in limiting some cities.

^ Me likely.

Petropavlovsk-K seems like a little bit too strong of a city food wise. I'd cut the fish so that a city in a frozen wasteland doesn't grow to a largeish size.

It will regardless; any city with that much water will grow large. It's the problem with water providing break-even food with a Lighthouse.

IMO, Ocean and Coast should provide zero food, one food with a Lighthouse, though yields from Fish/Crabs/Clams/Whales should be increased slightly to compensate (and resources would need to be reworked considerably in certain areas, in particular Britain and Japan).

I quite like that idea, given that mostly the ocean is just water (which obviously isn't edible) with food production concentraited in rich fishing grounds

Mostly I support the idea of a 'shelf' that only produces 1 food, very good for areas like Newfoundland, Falklands (seriously though Stanley with 21 pop?), Petro, the pacific islands, maybe Iceland and the Carribean.
As far as I can tell this also ties in with stability now that the ratio between core/non-core pop affects it?

EDIT: maybe we could go in a civ 5 esque route and have lighthouse/harbour/custom houses provide bonuses for sea resources when they're improved?
