Masters of the Seas

Ah, forgot about the forts. I tend to build them very seldom, only in late games to act as extra airports. Good thing you didn't listen to my advice.

Iron sounds good since there probably won't come many barbs on such a small island. With north fogbusted their only way at you is from that narrow choke in the south. Don't forget to build a trireme to protect your seafood.

What's the general plan for victory? Astronomy bulb as done in the ALC with ragnar would be really good, as it always is on archipelago or in isolation.

Optics should be enough to find trade partners, wish it was like in my last game where I got Astronomy from a hut  , but I may grab it with liberalism either way.

I know I could start researching it earlier but its just a HUGE amount of beakers by when you get Calendar and Optics and the second best thing to rush for would obviuolsy be Liberalism, so why not kill two birds with a stone?
Either way the AI doesnt seem aware of the map type and tends to prioritize other things such as Vassalge or the Artsy tech path

So i started my own archipelago map because of this thread. Surprisingly enough, I got isabella as my neighbor too. Julius Caesar was on our island too. I converted to Judaism with her. She also founded Christianity, which spread to JC before he received a jewish missionary, so he converted to christianity. Right there, you knew it was bad times for JC. I completely ignored my military, and when i saw him massing troops on my borders, i sicked Izzy on him. After that I never had to worry about him. She took a few of his cities, they made peace. A few years later he attacked her again, and she took even more cities.

So right now we're best friends, we're at something like +18, and have a defensive pact. I know a lot of people hate her because she always attacks you when you're a diff religion, but whenever i share her religion she's an awesome friend. Great attack dog, and good trading partner. She's #1 in soldiers, i'm #2, so for somebody to attack us would be suicidal. I managed to expand a ton, and right now i'm in a very comfortable tech lead, along with her. We've been trading back and forth and we're up to infantry. Nobody else is even up to rifling. Already got combustion, researching flight right now, and once I get industrialism, i'm gonna go for a domination win. All the other civs are pretty small because they are really stupid and immediately convert any overseas cities into colonies. So right now there are about twice as many civs as the map started with.

Oh yeah, and i built the great light house, though I lost the great library .Comfortably won the liberalism race, and delayed it enough to get sci method free. Probably could have delayed it even more and gotten physics or communism free. And god do i love communism on archipelago maps. I'm not even kidding when it increased my cashflow by 200 gpt.

Regarding optics, it's enough to find tech trading partners, but even more important, imo, is trade route partners. Getting overseas trade partners will give you a huge boost to your science rate. If you can get trade routes with izzy before astronomy, you'll be golden.

Are you playing on fast speed/settler difficulty? I cant believe you made it that far so fast! Man my kid had his 4 yr old B-Day party today and Im off from work too if it wasnt because of it I would be halfway from where you are!

Did you play all the optimal Archipielago leaders? Last time it took me 4 days to make it to Steam Power only although once I did it was a sure win.

Are you unemployed? Or a sixteen year old middle class kid who bribes his HS teachers? I cant believe you have so much time to spare!!!!

Thats true, another reason not to war with her, damn!!! I hate her and I so wanted to take her out early but your right, I can benefit more from her than from her cities.

Though I plan on using the Oracle for Metal Casting, getting there first, and even though I have no copper I still plan on building it (The Colossus I mean), making Astronomy only relevant for settling on islands out of reach.

I wonder if the AI is programed to build all those useless buildings and early military when they are hard coded not to attack you so early just so you can still stand a chance to all the features on the game?

The AI can attack you in the BCs, so if there's a hard coded period where they won't attack, it's very short.

yeah, JC was on my starting continent. No, the leaders were random. I play on epic. I'm a college student, so yeah i have lots of time sometimes.

Well second settler is ready on Amsterdam, work starts on the Oracle.

I think I will prioritize Great Priest points on the capital to get the Shrine, and I will Prioritize GS on the GP Farm, once I get one, for the Academies.

And Great Merchant points in Utrecht, that and GE points on a fourth city should be all I need.

By the way dont take the lots of spare time thing as an offense, I wish I could spend as much time on CIV so its more like a compliment, thanks for all the useful advice and help on my thread.

Heres the dotmap with city specialization, I already have the tags in-game but got too lazy to dotmap again.

What do you think? Of course it may change with new colonizations/conquers though. :p

Well the Hague is up now, theres some unhealthiness in the capital so this city should be pretty important as it adds 2 health plus whatever multipliers the buildings give down the road.

Its more healthiness and food than my happiness can sustain even with a temple, so the whip is coming soon.

Now that I think of it the fish/deer city works better as a whip/draft/specialist city than a GP farm since it will lack the production to get all the infrastructre needed to be a GP farm atleast until Steam Power rolls in.

When is it time to backstab her? Or your actually planning to celebrate victory alongside her?

I usually dont build TGLib if im running a CE with a Financial leader, who where you playing as though?

Also if you notice all the AIs I picked have fin and or a money producing UB except for Toku, therefor they dont have the need to create colonies right off the bat since they can afford the overseas cities.

Well I have finally researched IW and guess what? Theres Iron in the Capitals BFC!

A dead Izzy is always better than a living one, I also have the feeling we have horses too, Ill hold up on AH though since if I research it Ill feel way too tempted to attack her if theres any horse here, plus Pottery gives us the all precious granaries and cottage$.

On this map type and with that start, never settle in place. Divide Those foodplains in 2 cities !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i know it is to late now, but you will not have the full benefit from those sweet foodplains before lategame + some of them could support another city for growth.

Well we have finished the Oracle in Amsterdam and we got Metal Casting out of it, now Utrecht is still ways from finishing TGLH, let alone forge+Colossus, so I guess Ill contaminate my GP pool al little bit and build the Colossus in Amsterdam.

Oracle.JPG

I love The Colossus as Fin in Archipielago maps but my GP pool is almost as important, if most the wonders are in the capital, and to kill it off they are from mixed types it usually means lots of random GP from the capital, none from the GP Farm, and usually absolutely no chance to get either a GS nor a GE.
I think Ill build the ToA in Amsterdam and the Colossus somewhere else.

Yes Im wonder addicted but only for TGLH/Colossus/ToA I could care less about all the other wonders until The Spiral Minaret/Angkor Wat duo so I guess its not such a big deal anyway, Im not totally wonder addicted just addicetd to those few ones. Plus even though I know Izzy is my neighbor we havent even met yet, meaning I have not to worry about military yet, right?

Oh I also finished Pottery right in time, I think Im going AH to finish rounding up the desicion for wether I should kill Izzy or not.

You are right, plus moving south would in fact benefit the city placement for all other cities.

But well its not like I had perfect awareness of the entire map from the start, its hard to plan that far ahead when, to kill it off my warrior started SE from the capital and I had no clue I could settle more cities up north, so in such situation you are just greatful the capital got a sweet spot.

Building a forge after the Oracle on Amsterdam, going for ToA after that tough, not Colossus, like I mentioned before that goes somewhere else.

Upon completion of AH, we do have horses too! 2 Horse resources actually.

Not sure what to research next, Ill be back tomorrow and hopefuly I can get some tips.
Or figure it out by myself while I sleep. :p

Yes i understand your way of thinking. The problem with massive foodplains in the capital is that you always have a hard time getting enough health res. to work all titles. Though the city will become nice late game.

you got six health res on the map.. and 3 of them are seafoods...which is very nice/lucky for a small island.

Do you have the initial save ?

I think i'm going to go for a space race win.I kind of got into builder mode. Built pretty much all the industrial and modern wonders in my capital. I could easily get a domination victory, i've got all my transports and carriers built, and could easily build the marines and fighters needed, especially by turning off research and rush buying. But domination wins on archipelago are so tedious.

As for backstabbing izzy, there's no need. she only has about 15% of the land area. She'd be better to keep around to bribe her into war, and then joining in a few turns later.

Here it is http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/134044/AutoSave_Initial_BC-4000.CivBeyondSwordSave just dont get too far ahead or if you do, dont tell me what happens, some tips here and there are welcome though.
