I'm up and plan on playing tonight. I believe you were skipped this time around.

Well since we are slowing Industrialization down should I go ahead and start the war? I don't believe I see a reason not too. I'll still set up at leats a couple factory pre-builds so pindicator will have them.

Military Tradition. I don't know if we have it already. I think you should go full steam toward Industy then Miltary Tradition, upgrade to Cavalry and go..,

First of all, we are not going to destroy America. We are just going to take a quick tour of their country and cut out about half of their culture production: Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, New York, Washington, Seattle, and Houston. Leave the coastal cities along the north and west shores alone.

Full steam to anything won't leave us any gold for upgrades, which is why I suggested slowing research a bit. (The suggestion was 60% science for Ind. in 9 turns)

Prebuild for US? I suggest begining a factory prebuild in Valencia, to be complete a turn or two after we have industrialization. We should concentrate our workers there to increase production.

We don't need Mil Trad, so we may be better off skipping it. (Industrialization >> Medicine)

Our conquistadors can be in place in 3 turns, and we can have 20 to 25 knights (including 5 upgraded horsemen) at the Korean border at that time. We may want a couple more conq's for pillaging fun.

Someone mentioned bringing the Ottomans in against America? I'd rather not. The Ottomans are at war with Maya, and are importing horses - possibly from America. I kinda favor Osman in that war.

If the Americans have any thing better than spears, I'd frown at not getting Cavs first. As it is, it seems a little bit risky, especially since Mil Trad gets us a chance at a small wonder should we pop a leader. I would prefer grabbing Mil Trad before a war, but I'm a bit cautious on my warmongering

The Americans have no iron and no saltpeter. The only thing they have going for them is that they built Knight's Templar, and now have a handful of crusaders. The sooner we start, the fewer we'll have to deal with.

I'll start prepping the war party tonight then. Valencia is the only prebuild for a factory!?! I guess the other cities will be building more knights.

I can't see destroying America either since it'll just allow Korea to expand even more and grow to be a threat to us. Raze a few cities and call them friends. No problem.

Again, plan on playing in three hours.

All cities could prebuild factories. Only Valencia was mentioned to build Universal Suffrage after the factory.

There is the option of America trading for Iron though right? That's why I wanted to be safe.

Agree here on not utterly destroying America...unless we do the same to Korea. I kinda like the idea of fighting until we get a MGL...

Sorry guys for taking so long. I declared on America about midway through my turnset and the turns are taking forever. I'm currently halfway through turn 9 but had to stop so I can get ready for work. I'll finish in the morning when I get home.

Question: America is sending settlers to fill in the areas of the cities I have razed. I was thinking of letting them so that Korea doesn't get any bigger. I don't see how these newly settled cities would be a problem as they will be starting with a culture of 0. So should I leave the settlers alone or take them out?

I think it is better to leave the settlers alone. The whole point of not destroying America totally is to prevent Korea from grabbing a large territory.

Pre-Turn: Stop workers who are working tiles that are not in a cities radius and are not done the next turn. Set Science to 60%. Upgrade 3 Horseman. Valencia switches to Palace for factory pre-build. Begin moving troops north.

1@1060 AD: Still moving troops.

IT: Barcelona Knight>Knight. Toledo Knight>Knight. Salamanca Knight>Knight. Murcia Knight>Knight.

2@1070 AD: Zzzz

IT: Madrid Knight>Knight. Santiago Knight>Knight.

3@1080 AD: Upgrade two more horsemen.

4@1090 AD: Zzzz

IT: Toledo Knight>Wealth. Murcia Wealth.

5@1100 AD: We give Korea 3 gpt for RoP. Move 23 Knights adjacent to America’s border with some additional laggers.

IT: Korea wants our territory map so I give it to them for their World Map and 3 gold.

Barcelona Knight>Knight (factory pre-build). Salamanca Knight>Knight (factory pre-build).

6@1110 AD: We declare on the Americans. Korea is willing to join our cause for 13 gpt. To get some of the money back I sell them Music Theory for World Map, 63 gpt, and 2 gold. Move 24 Knights adjacent to Chicago. A Conquistador moves on to pillage the gems. Sent the other Conquistador north towards one of the furs.

IT: Interesting, America doesn’t attack though it does send one warrior our way.

Madrid Knight>Knight (factory pre-build). Santiago Knight>Knight (factory pre-build).

Uh!?! Interesting Palace. To make the towers on both sides the same I make it Asian. We have one screwed up Palace!

7@1120 AD: Wasn’t paying attention and forgot to switch Toledo and Murcia to Knights for factory pre-builds. Do it now.

Chicago Campaign:
Vet Knight takes out a spear, loses 1 hp.
Vet Knight takes out a spear, loses 2 hp.
Vet Knight takes out a spear, loses 2 hp and promoted to elite.
Vet Knight takes out a longbowmen unharmed and razes Chicago (gain 6 slaves).
Conquistador pillages a fur.
Upgrade a Horseman.

Chicago_Razed.JPG

IT: American crusader kills one of our Conquistadors. Several crusaders head our way as well as an American settler. A Korean settler heads into what was former Chicago.

8@1130 AD:
Houston Campaign:
Vet Knight takes out a spear, loses 1 hp.
Vet Knight takes out a spear, loses 2 hp and promoted to elite.
Vet Knight takes out a spear, loses 1 hp and promoted to elite.
Vet Knight takes out a spear, loses 3 hp.
Vet Knight takes out longbowmen, loses 2 hp and razes Houston (gain 5 slaves).

Houston_Razed.JPG

Near former Houston:
Vet Knight takes out crusader, loses 3 hp.
Vet Knight takes out archer, loses 1 hp.

1 hp Knight heads back home to heal.

Boston Campaign:
Vet Knight falls to a spear.
Vet Knight takes out a spear, loses 1 hp.
Vet Knight takes out a spear, loses 3 hp.
Vet Knight takes out a longbowmen, unharmed.
Vet Knight takes out the wounded spear, unharmed and promotes to elite. Also razes Boston. We gain 3 slaves.

Boston_Razed.JPG

Lose a lone Knight in a foolish attempt to take out a crusader on a hill.

Conquistador pillages last remaining fur.
Elite 3/5 Knight takes out warrior.
Remaining forces from both Chicago and Houston move adjacent to Seattle.
Upgrade Horseman.

IT: America loses 1 crusader and 1 longbowmen in their counter-attacks on us. Several of our Knights were taken to 1 hp before they retreated. Several American settlers moving around but I don’t see this as a problem. I’d rather they take back their land anyway.

Research Industrialization>Medicine. During the big picture all production is switched to Factories.

9@1140 AD: In the attempt to remove some of these crusaders I set a few sights on them.

Vet Knight 3/4 falls to a crusader.
Vet Knight takes out crusader, loses 3 hp.
Elite Knight 4/5 takes out crusader, no additional damage.
Elite Knight 3/5 takes out crusader, no additional damage.
Vet Knight takes out longbowmen, unharmed.
Vet Knight 2/4 takes out archer, no additional damage.
Vet Knight 2/4 takes out a longbowmen, no additional damage and promoted to elite. Capture a slave.
Conquistador captures two slaves.

IT: Maya and Ottomans sign peace. America loses a crusader and archer attacking our forces. This also promotes one of our Knights to elite. Don’t get too excited as the freshly promoted elite Knight dies to a Longbowmen immediately afterward. An American horseman recaptures their workers, oops.

10@1150 AD: Six slaves enter our lands and begin helping (with a whip of course) our railroad project.

Vet Knight takes out horseman, unharmed.

San Francisco Campaign:
Vet Knight takes out spear, unharmed.
Vet Knight falls to a spear.
Vet Knight takes out a spear, unharmed.
Elite Knight 3/5 takes out wounded spear, no additional damage. Razes SF. Gain 7 slaves.

SF_Razed.JPG

Seattle Campaign:
Vet Knight takes out a spear, unharmed and promotes to elite.
Elite Knight 3/5 attempts but retreats, loses 2 hp.
Elite Knight 3/5 attempts but retreats, loses 2 hp.
Vet Knight 2/4 attempts but retreats, loses 1 hp.
This campaign considered a loss.

Notes:
-There are two Korean slaves south of New Orleans that we may want to disband. I’m unsure if I can get them home safely.
-There are also three slaves west of former Chicago that are heading into Korean lands.
-America has at least one settler moving around so check any units before you attack them. We don’t want to destroy their settlers. It would be better to let them have their territory back rather than let Korea get it.
-Something I didn’t think of until my turn 9 was I should have taken out Washington since that is where Knight’s Templar was built. If we destroy it America won’t be able to have 5 attack units and we can build the KT.
-I would suggest taking out crusaders whenever possible, unless they are on a hill. They are extremely tough on the attack but have an okay defense (5/3). Always attack their longbowmen since their defense is 1.
-I would also suggest switching some of the factory builds to Knights since we will need the reinforcements.
-Check all of our units on your first turn as I do fortify them on occasion.
-Haven’t been checking possible trades due to the war and just noticed both Persia and Korea have some gold, we may want that.

Edit: Forgot to attach save.

Forgot to show our current culture.

Barcelona: 20,745
Madrid: 20,006
Murcia: 11,818
Salamanca: 11,806
Santiago: 10,403
Seville: 16,787
Toledo: 15,768
Valencia: 9,044

According to CAII we’ll hit 100k in 1998.

America’s Culture:

8,628 in 1110 AD
8,803 in 1120 AD for a gain of 175
8,966 in 1130 AD for a gain of 163
9,113 in 1140 AD for a gain of 147
9,260 in 1150 AD for a gain of 147

Their culture is steadily dropping. Remember that in 1150 AD I razed SF so the culture should drop even more. I’d definitely suggest we raze Washington as that should really drop their cpt.

Well done Methos! :goodjob: 4 cities is a good start. I hope I can keep the momentum going for us.

How far do we want to go into America? It seems that Seattle, Washington, and New York are a given. Do we want to hit some of the bigger cities on their west coast (Philadelphia, Detroit, Denver, Buffalo)? I think we'd accomplish our goals by still leaving America their coastal cities after New York falls.

Doesn't us having Steam render the Knight's Templar obsolite? Or does America have to get to Steam to do that?

I plan to switch half of the towns to Knights to help the war, at Methos' suggestion. Seville, Toledo, Santiago, and Salamanca are the four that will take the longest to complete factories; they will be swapped to knights. As the other cities finish their factories they will turn to knight production and one of those four mentioned above will make their factory, so we can keep the military pressure up.

Persia is willing to trade us 67g (all), 48gpt (max), silks, and their WM for Free Artistry. Nobody else has extra gpt they are willing to trade, although we could trade some civs low-end techs for luxuries if we wanted.

Got it and will play tonight.

That was Mathias's suggestion from post #227. Meaning we have three more cities to raze.

America has to know the technology that makes KT obsolete. Hmm, wonder if we should have gifted it to them or sold it to them for hard cash before we declared.

Don't forget Universal Suffrage.
