I think it's pindicator and them me, but i'm a bit confused too.

Pindicator stated this in post #298:

Pindicator said:
Obormot, why don't you switch with me here. I've got a thing this weekend and won't be able to play until Sunday evening. Just so we keep this thing moving along ;)

So take it away Obormot!

nevermind...

Well, my plans changed unexpectedly and i won't be able to play untill sunday evening too. So maybe we can fall back to normal roster or do some other swaps.

Inherited Turn

Re-read the notes to get an idea of what I should be doing. Seems like we want to gear up production in Salamanca, Santiago, and Valencia, as they are the lowest culture towns. Valencia is already at 101 spt so I will do what I can with the other two towns.
We have 2000+ gold. So I decide to upgrade some Galleons. Upgrade 4 Galleons for 600g.
Everything else looks a bit of okay, so I hit [enter].

1455AD
A new source of iron pops up right beside Toledo. Why couldn't it pop up by Valencia? :p
Max out production on Salamanca. It will starve down to size 18, the max amount of tiles it can work (Barcelona is overlapping on two) which I hope is okay with everyone.
Science to 90%

1465AD
Science to 80%; hire a bunch of taxmen to curb beaker overflow.

IBT
Mass Production => Motorized Transportation

1470AD
Science to 100%, hire a few more taxmen and Motorized is still due in 4
Santiago is now at max production (without stealing tiles from Seville).

IBT
Scandinavia and Persia sign a peace treaty

1475AD
Ottomans reach the Industrial Age

IBT
Americans and Persians sign a trade embargo against us.

1480AD

IBT
Korea declares war on the Vikings

1485AD
More taxmen. I also disband our frigates. Salamanca is pumping a destroyer every two turns and (if I remember correctly) frigates cannot be upgraded.

IBT
Persia and America sign an MPP. Something to keep in mind.
Motorized Transport=>Flight
Madrid: Destroyer -> Commercial Dock

1490AD
Switch Salamanca to Commercial Dock as well
Switch everyone to Scientist and Science to 100, but Flight still only in 5.

IBT
Salamanca: Commercial Dock -> Tank

1500AD
Everybody's producing Tanks right now, just to share in the fun. Besides, we've got more gold than we know what to do with. I almost rushed the Commercial Dock in Madrid, but that just didn't seem pressing.

Math02_1500ad_persian_fleet.jpg

Persia has 4 ships that showed up last IBT off our west coast. They are willing to negotiate and we can sue for peace at the cost of ~120g. Or we can trade them something for Communism and Peace and take all of their gold and gpt.

All three of the cities Meteor suggested by optimized for production now are. Valencia is at 101spt. Salamanca is at 70spt. Santiago is at 91spt.

I had some workers railroad on the Korean border so I covered them with an Infantry from Santiago just to be on the safe side. There are also a dozen workers beside Barcelona that I couldn't find anything to do with, so I decided to share the fun with Obormot. Chop down the jungle if you want, or road, or forest -- they're slaves, they won't tell you no ;)

Oh, and I forgot to, but we should look at pre-building for the first Modern Age wonders. Flight is due in 4; which Modern Age wonder should we go for first?

I guess we need to research computers first in the modern age, 8 labs gives much miore culture than any wonder, so i'll go for computers and start prebuild for SETI. I guess we want to build labs before internet to start gaining culure earlier, so i'll prebuild labs before learning computers. As for the SETI site: maybe it makes sense to build it in Toledo (on a river) to get more commerce? Anyway there are many wonders in the MA and just 3 cities don't look enough to build them all. After that we should go for the tech that gives most cultural wonders (have to consult civilopedia).

First off, starving our cities is a bad idea. Building workers to migrate to our other cities would be better. We need food in the bank when pollution strikes, or we starve again, so please irrigate a few tiles for a couple of turns. Second, there was apparently disagreement on which cities should have max production. We don't need to focus on our lower-culture cities, but on those cities that can attain the highest shields per turn, as noted in my turnchat:

Mathias said:
Valencia is at size 20 with maximum production of 90 shields per turn, just shy of the 91 needed for 11-turn modern wonders. A police station will get us there. Toledo and/or Murcia could also be set up for high production

Madrid and Salamanca are at 32 shields per turn for 3-turn destroyers or 5-turns cruisers. Prebuild commercial docks next turn.

I also had Madrid where I wanted it, at 32 shields, for naval production. Salamanca, with only 60 net shields per turn, isn't producing enough to build a 1000-shield wonder. Santiago's 84 shields is enough to build a wonder in 12 turns, so long as pollution doesn't strike twice. Toledo could reach 100 shields per turn, but we don't really need 3 cities building wonders anyway, so Valencia and Santiago should do fine.

Persia will give peace for 160 gold. I don't like making other trades with a peace treaty, so I'd make this deal first, then do as pindicator suggested and trade for Communism and all the gold they have. We need police stations in Valencia and Santiago, and they would be helpful in other cities as well.

Overall tech path seems obvious to me: Computers (research labs, SETI), Fission (UN, Manhattan Project), Miniaturization (The Internet), Genetics (Cure for Cancer, Longevity), Rocketry, Space Flight (Apollo Program)

Edit: Site for SETI? Valencia, because it can be built quickest there, unless you max production in Toledo. The increase in science that SETI gives is hardly relevant at this point.

@Mathias -- I went back again and noted the Madrid at 32spt spot; sorry I missed it before when I tried to re-read everything before playing. Salamanca at 60spt can pump out destroyers in 2 turns anyway, and I seriously doubt we'll need many more than we have now, but again I should have caught what you wrote during the end of your turnset. I had just thought somebody had overlooked a few mines.

I still am missing where the disagreement on maxing out production in the lower cities was at. I was going off of what I was Meteor recommend and it made sense for me to follow through on that. I saw no one offer a counter-suggestion.

Definitely would have been more efficient to pump workers out of those towns, I agree with you there. If we want to have a buffer citizen in case of massive pollution then we only need to irrigate one tile in each of those cities.

Agree on the tech route. Seti should be a nice culture bonus for all our cities.

pre-turn:
- irrigate one tile near Santiago to avoid starvation
- buy communism from vikings for sanitation ans steam, start building police stations
- Some scientists in Madrid changed to engineers to build dock one turn earlier

1505
-

1510
- Madrid: dock->police

1515
- flight->computers (7 turns)
- kill persian landing with elites, no MGLs. Sink persian ships.

1520

1550
- IBT switch prebuilds and short-rush some, now we have labs in all cities except Valencia (building SETI).
- Fission is next in 6
- I don't know if we need more units, i just started building wealth this turn, but it can be changed

Sure enough. I got it.

Build colony
Valencia switched to Manhattan Project. This is a prebuild for The Internet.
Salamanca and Madrid switched to Battleship, prebuild for Offshore Platform.

Valencia should switch to The Internet when we get Miniaturization. Santiago should use MP as a prebuild for one of the next wonders after completion of the UN. Salamanca can begin building MP with a few turns of prebuild before we have Genetics.

I saw no reason to defend the colony. If we end up at war with either Persia or Scandinavia, we will lose the colony and any defenders. We only need the uranium until we begin to build the real Manhattan Project.

Edit, almost forgot:
We are currently generating 331 culture per turn. Persia is our top rival, generating 173 culture per turn. That's about 52% or ours, so no cause for alarm, but they will continue to grow. We will eventually need to visit them, preferrably in Modern Armor.

- Scandinavia is at war with 5 nations. I don't think they can hold that if it continues and then Persia will own the giant continent. We could give them a tech such as Replaceable Parts and some $$$ to help them out. I think really though we should take out Persia.
- What to research next? Rocketry to get Space Flight and the last cultural building, Apollo, or Ecology to start building Modern Armor sooner. Keep in mind Persia only has Riflemen, so we can take out their cities with tanks if necessary. Neither one has any beakers towards research so it should be changed on the next person's turn.
- We have to decide what to to here. I'd start building tanks now in our cities that aren't building culture, and gift scandinavia Rep Parts.
