Math02: 100K with limited cities

My suggestions have been stated.

1. build tanks
2. attack Persia
3. I've changed my mind about gifting Rep Parts to the Vikings...they might sign a peace treaty and give it to Persia...that would be a mess, don't do it.

As for the world war, Scandinavia needs to hold off Persia as long as possible. Definitely agree on gifting them infantry and gold; just gotta hope they have the resources too. I think we should research for that last bit of culture first, just to get it out of the way. After that we can start steam-rolling Persia; I wonder how long the Vikings will be able to hold on even with the better troops.

First of all, Scandinavia and Persia both have Replaceable Parts. Korea also has RP, and they are trading their extra rubber to Persia. The Vikings have a local source.

Second, why do the Vikings have to hold their ground against Persia?

Third, Persia has MPPs that we need to work around. Korea has nearly 250 gpt available, and will give it all to us for Refining. We should make this trade before Korea finds something else to do with their gold. Wait for the MPP to expire, so we can ally with our neighbors and avoid war on our continent.

I agree with everything you said Mathias, but if the Vikes fall to Persia, Persia will have a huge continent to themselves for building culture or military.

Pre-Turn: Make a few trades:

Korea: We get World Map, 248 gpt, and 217 gold; we give Refining
Ottomans: We get 51 gpt and 89 gold; we give Fascism

1@1655 AD: Zzzz

IT: Renew Spice-Saltpeter deal with the Ottomans

2@1660 AD: Clean up a couple spills

IT: Korean settler appears to our north. Don’t see any open ground so I wonder where he’s going?

3@1665 AD: More spills

IT: Trade maps with Vikings, we gain 3 gold. Korean settler settles north of Toledo adjusting our border in their favor.

Salamanca builds the Manhattan Project, switches to a pre-build

4@1670 AD: Zzzz

IT: Research Rocketry>Space Flight

5@1675 AD: Salamanca switches to Tank. Had planned on building SAM Missile Battery but realized no one is even close to Flight.

6@1680 AD: Zzzz
IT: Renew our Silk-Gems deal with Persia, though we have to toss in an additional 30 gold. Vikings are in Anarchy.

7@1685 AD: Salamanca begins Palace (pre-build for Apollo)

IT: Murcia builds Intelligence Agency>Wealth

8@1690 AD: Zzzz

IT: Santiago builds Cure for Cancer>Wealth

Win Date 1972

Note: Salamanca is pre-building the palace for Apollo and will finish the palace if not switched during the big picture. So immediately go to the big picture when Space Flight is learned and switch Salamanca to the Apollo Program! We do not want to accidentally move our palace.

Longevity will be done in 1.

Inherited Turn
Hire some tax collectors and police officers to keep Apollo in one turn and make a little more money... not that we need it ;)

IBT
Space Flight comes in.
Switch Salamanca to Apollo
Valencia: Longevity->Wealth
Pollution hits Santiago

We might not have gifted Scandinavia Rep Parts, but they have it now. A Persian cav loses to a Scandinavian Infantry.

1705AD
 We have a leader just camping out in Seville. Not that I can think of anything to do with him, but the fact that he's just chilling is funny.

Quickest we can do Ecology is in 5 turns, so I optimize for that.

Decide to wait on irrigating towns for growth. If we want to we can do it later.
Switch Valencia, Murcia, Toledo, and Santiago to Tanks. The rest stay at Wealth / Wonder.

1710AD

IBT

Persia now also has Rep Parts as I can see a Persian Infantry.
We lost our supply of Incense.

1715AD
Buy Mayan incense for 21gpt +7g. Tech might have been better, but I didn't feel like giving them rails or Communism.

IBT

Salamanca: Apollo->SS Cockpit (Mass Transit pre-build)

1720AD
Start towns on Mass Transit pre-builds
Well, damn. Maya has Communism now anyway.

1725AD

IBT
Ecology comes in. Switch towns to Mass Transit.

1730AD

Rush Mass Transit in the three towns that won't complete it next turn.

Optimize science for max gpt. At 90% Science we get Synthetic Fibers in 6 turns.

IBT

Mass Transit all around! Half our cities celebrate by polluting.

1735AD
Renew our Dye deal with Scandinavia. Buy for 18gpt; hopefully that will help them out.

1740AD

 :rotfl:

You can guess what happened next. Not a scratch on the army.

Hittites and Scandinavians sign a peace treaty.

1750AD

I've got two destoryers down around Ottoman territory just having fun, disconnecting resources. If the next players really wants, they can take some of our tanks and level the two Ottoman towns on the north. Also, America has signed a trade embargo with the Ottomans against us, so look out for them. If we really have to! Haha.

I dont' know if we want to milk all the population we can out of our towns or not, but I think we should be fine production-wise if we choose to.

It seems like we don't have much left to do now. If i'm not mistaken we have already built all culture buildings (or building them now), the only thing left is to watch other civ's culture and send tanks if they build too many temples and libs ;).

I'll be away from my civ computer during the weekend, and if i don't play it today evening, you can skip me this round.

Persian Culture Report:
1600 AD: 173 cpt
1600 AD to 1650 AD: avg 172.8 cpt
1650 AD to 1700 AD: avg 120.4 cpt
1700 AD to 1750 AD: avg 126.9 cpt
Currently: 94 cpt

The war is a good thing. Persia has mobilized!

I've got it, playing now.

Edit: Posting now...

Begin irrigating high-production cities, target 60 to 70 shields per turn for MA in 2 turns with less overrun. Plant a forest near Murcia and Toledo to even out growth. Madrid switch to worker to prevent starvation.

IT: Several tanks complete, build more...
Madrid Worker >> Transport

1752 AD (1)
Worker from Madrid joins Santiago
Sell Steel and Atomic Theory to Korea for 386 gpt + 635 gold
Murcia building workers to reduce population and allow for 60+ spt

IT: Synthetic Fibers >> Nuclear Power
Murcia Worker >> Worker

1754 AD (2)
Worker from Murcia joins Valencia
Upgrade 20 tanks to MA for 1200 gold

1756 AD (3)
Load transports with MA

1758 AD (4)
...

1760 AD (5)
IT: Vikings capture Sardis
Vikings and Korea sign peace treaty

1762 AD (6)
Ottomans refuse to talk, so I unload 6 MA next to Antalya and sink two of their boats.

IT: Vikings and Persia sign peace treaty

1764 AD (7)
Antalya: First MA kills two spearmen without a scratch and is promoted. Second MA loses two HP against a longbowman and razes the city.
Osman, suddenly willing to talk, gives us 7 gpt + 5 gold for peace.
Silk-Gem trade with Persia is up, we end the trade.
Persian MPPs have ended, so we 'renegotiate' our peace treaty. Xerxes would be insulted if we asked for continued peace, so...
Korea will ally for 25 gpt, America wants Communism. We now have two allies in the war against Persia.
We give 6 gpt to Scandinavia for RoP

IT: Persian cavalry approach our uranium colony
Nuclear Power >> The Laser - Scientific Breakthrough!! SGL!!!

1766 AD (8)
Unload 24 MA onto Viking coast

IT: We lose our uranium colony.

1768 AD (9)
Aleppo: Kill 3 infantry, lose 1 MA. Raze the city, getting 4 slaves, and capture 3 more nearby.

1770 AD (10)
Move a stack of MA next to Arbela, cut some rails

We are generating 371 culture per turn. Persia was at 170 cpt in 1766 and 1768, with 166 culture added in 1770.

Mathias said:
Second MA loses two HP against a longbowman ...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but since we attacked the LB doesn't it defend with a 1 bonus? Granted I don't know what the defense bonus of the tile was but it must have been really good to hit a MA? Am I correct in stating it goes our attack bonus versus their defense bonus plus tile bonus?

Looking at the save now ...

Edit: Didn't notice, what did you do with the SGL?

I'm 2 turns into the game...what are we doing with Persia? I've razed 2 cities and I have stacks next to Gordium and Persepolis, which are now defended by Riflemen. I think almost all of Persia could be razed during my turnset, so I think it's better to wait for the official go ahead...or not go ahead.

My thoughts were to raze Arbela, Gordium, Persepolis, Pasargadae, and Antioch. Try to prevent Scandinavia from settling, so that Persia might recover a bit. Do not sign peace treaty until our alliances have been canceled.

Hattusus (VIK) razed.
Tyrana (VIK) razed.
Hubishna (VIK) razed.
Herat (PER) razed.

Karasjok (VIK) razed.
Reykjavik (VIK) razed.
Vadso (VIK) razed.

1790
Tarsus (VIK) razed.
Kanesh (VIK) razed.

- 386 gpt from Korea runs out in 1 turn...I'd try to renew it for another tech.
- 7 turns for MA vs. Persia from Korea and America to run out.
- The Vikings refuse to acknowledge our envoy... :shakehead

Got it.

So, should I keep razing Persia as well, or just the Vikings? Another thing, how far are we taking this with both Persia and Vikings? With Persia I assume wait until the MA is over and than sign peace. With the Vikings just raze until they are willing to talk. What is everybodies opinions?

Plenty of time to answer as I'll probably play either late tonight or early morning.

Edit: Looking forward to razing a few cities!
