Math06: RaR, OCC, Space

Hmm, the only thing I can say for sure is that we need to see the save. Pick up a couple of optional M&R techs, or get Fed Rep, but don't revolt. Either way, I don't think the next 3 turns are going to be crucial.

Pre-flight: looks familiar :D
Spoiler turnlog - rather dull actually :

T2.
Persia completes VoD
Cav tactics -> Flintlock, steady at 3/6/1[2]

T4.
Tibet completes Chitzen Itza
Cav Tacts - Steam Power 3/6/1 [3] steady as she goes.
We draw Medicine free :D

T6.
Tibet builds Shangri La
India builds KT

T7.
Aztecs get Temple of Zeus
Steam Power - Federalism 2/7/1 [2]

Closest civ to getting railed and trade-ready coal is persia. They also are on the brink of destruction by their overwhelming neighbors.

T9.
Federalism - Nationalism 3/6/1 [3]

OK so here's the mini map and the current tech tree. I spent a turn on nationalism since it's a no-brainer tech towards factories. The situation is that india has had ~15 turns to regroup and prepare to invade Persia, and the poor perses have nothing to defend themselves. Gifting them all the way to steam power could give them an edge - alrthough nationalism would be bad considering how many shields it takes for a hussar. It would also make them very much more likely to road that coal and trade it. OTOH we could ship a worker there, RoP with them and do it ourselves, which wouldn't be a totally bad idea. Either way we need coal, they need techs. Perhaps gifting after the worker is there, RoP'd and has roaded the tile could be a good plan.

Here I highlighted the techs we'll need for fisheries, rails, public school, Statue of Liberty and sewers IIRC. I'd be in favor of just finishing the renaissance techs, for now, however.

The Save

There is a potential coal colony on the north coast of India, near Hamburg, Königsberg and Chittagong. It would take 13 turns to get a worker there, and 12 turns to research directly to High Explosives. Investigation of those three cities, to determine when expansion would give that tile to India, would cost a total of 214 gold.

That didn't strike my mind at all but gets full approval from this idiotic companion of yours.

We're deep enough into this game that my ignorance of what's efficient will start to show through. Hope this doesn't cause a problem. :D

Coal colony? High Explosives?

I'd suggest spending the 3 turns we might need on factories, given we won't be caught short in the renaissance optionnals anyways most likely.

Have those workers been sent to colonize the coal ? That could be very worth it.

Update, please?

Haven't played any turns - My excuse of undergoing major surgury for the last 3day is quite good though I feel. I'm going to go have a lie down with some painkillers but can play tomorrow unless anyone else wants to grab it.

My bet Mathias will have a few turns before you're up again ;)

I'll play today.

1000 AD (0)
Investigation of Indian cities reveals that Hamburg will expand in 18 turns. Since no worker was sent out to colonize the coal, a trip that would take 13 turns leaving us with only 5 turns of coal, I abandon that idea.

Note: After Shipyard is complete, prebuild for Fishery and use 'Big Picture' to switch to Fishery when we discover Refrigeration.

Tibet needs only Economics to advance into the Industrial Age, and India needs 5 techs. We will be able to trade for coal from India, but we are not ready to gift them any techs.

After Refrigeration, we should probably pick up the last two M&R optionals. Once we have those, or if we choose to skip them, it will probably be a good time to revolt and switch to Federal Republic. We'll need Refining for the Statue of Liberty, and then High Explosives for railroads. I'm not sure exactly what direction to go after that.

I'm defintely for the 2 optionnal techs. Since India is several paces back, I'd go for statue of liberty first, explosives second. Fed Republic before high explosives if possible, for the worker speed - but that's just gravy.

One other thing, concerning our Golden Age. I would not be opposed to putting it off until the Modern Times, when we build the United Nations.

-Citizens have been reallocated though the city is still in disorder. It’ll be productive again during the IBT.
-Universal Suffrage is a pre-build for the Statue of Liberty. Remember to switch to Statue of Liberty during the big picture when Refining is learned.
With pollution we’re at +0 food. Once the pollution is cleared put a citizen on that tile for growth.

I’m wondering if we should keep Babylon at size 19. If we use the watered grass tile to get close to size 20 and than put that citizen back on a mined mountain we should ever have to worry about dropping in population due to pollution. Whenever we get pollution we can always just put the citizen back on the watered grass to get ourselves back up to almost size 20.

Here's the save.
