I think I will go Buer/OR first then as soon as I can Jewish. To control the AP I think we need to gain around 30 population over WvO/Vicky team. SO I think that will take both a round of growth AND winning some battles versus Darius.

any other issues or do I have a green light?
 
Go jewish first to increase cultural pressure in our england border cities and extra happies. They will gain at least the 1 culture from religion. After that switch to Bureau/OR.
 
being no religion gives you +1 per religion present. going jewish would actually lower culture in any cities with christ or budda present.

No. Free Religion gives +1 happiness per religion. The culture is there once you have a religion in a city and have no state religion.
 
Ah ok, that makes sense. If I am for example hindu and I get buddhism in one of my cities, it does not produce culture from buddhism. Crap. Learning something new every day. Thx Cree. In that case revolting civics before going jewish makes sense.

Do you mean Ankara? Don't see why you would send a long walk to the Dutch. Ankara would make sense as it can pump them quickly.

sorry for the late save, feel asleep last night putting my daughter to bed.

I sent the first missionary to the Dutch. He likes to spread religions so I thought letting him use his hammers for it is a good idea. Ankara is on unit duty in my eyes.

Also we have a spy sitting in Darius city next to ankara who should try and steal engineering once it comes up.

I think we should have some discussion about when to go to war, how prepared de we need to be? Should we upgrade our axes to macemen?

Too bad we do not have a city who can start on the UoS. With the stone that wonder would boost our science rate by a lot.

About the war, we will need to be prepared. If we have some good city raiders axemen left then upgrade, otherwise use them for clean up service.

We are way over farming the land. Growing our cities up with a break even tile (plains tile) isn't worth the extra maintenance costs. I leave things alone, but don't plan to farm much more.

We have just $100 and clear only $10 / turn. Our limit to go to war isn't troops, it is the economy.
York completes a market in 7 turns - that will help the economy. :)

Nottingham badly needs more culture. Not only do we have issues owning the marble, but the Dutch are stealing tiles from the north. Plus we don't have one of the good food tiles under our control.

I delete the Jewish Synagogue from Edirne queue. That city will never benefit from it.

I start swapping troops around. I want the medic axe in the attack force. Healing is a real problem for us.

I put a monument in from of the Hamman in London. That city also needs more culture.
(IT) Saladin asks us to cancel deals with Persia. We are going to war with Persia so enough, so I agree.


1060 AD
I just caught another worker action I disagree with - replacing an existing mine with a windmill, when we have other hills to put the windmill on *and* get a chop bonus. I cancel the worker action.
(IT) We lose our sale to the Dutch of gems. I hate to lose any income source.


1080 AD
I whip a missionary in Canterbury. I hope I can spread it next turn. We are heading to economy collapse again. With losing the deal to the Dutch we clear just $4 / turn at zero science.

I sell our map to China for $60 and Arabia for $25. I need more spare cash before the war.
BLAST - Persia suddenly has most of the cash on the map, and won't talk to use because of being nice to Saladin.


1090 AD
I declare war on Persia. It has hit the point I can't afford to NOT do so. We can't afford the current troop buildup.
Ankara now understands Christ.
I whip the Jewish Temple in Nottingham. More culture and more hammers. That city needs both. I queue up a library next for even more culture.
I sell China Literature for $305. He has a bit of cash left after that, so I should have gotten full price. We now have $532 bleeding $12 / turn. We can war for a while.
I change my mind n Canterbury, and go for court next. The market gives us less cash the court will save.


1100 AD
Our spy causes a revolt in Bactra. We gain $120 and capture the city with low casualties. We get a court and market in the city. We don't cut Persia's iron source. We merge our general into the city.
(IT) Persia lost 2 units attacking Bactra.


1110 AD
(IT) I refuse to give Saladin Theology. I have my limits for keeping AIs happy.
WTH? Victoria declares war on us.
I get an event that costs us $12 in York to avoid any problems.


1130 AD
Eliminating England sounds nice, so I decide to go defensive for the moment in Bactra. My plans to put more into the economy go on hold.
I buy the Dutch map for $95. I want to know exactly where those English cities are.


1140 AD
We have another GP.
I have to waste a lot of our gold reserve to upgrade 2 units by London. I don't want to risk a lone archer defending vs. a longbow. I also upgraded an axe to mace to hunt it down next turn.


1150 AD
We just got another great general. :)
(IT) - Bleh, England still controls the AP. A vote to end the war comes up. After thinking about it a bit, I vote yes. While I would like to eliminate England, Persia the bigger threat right now.


1160 AD
(IT) We are at peace with England. The good news is we now have enough population to win these votes.
A random event destroys a farm by Konya.


Summary:
It is 6 turns until we complete Sistine Chapel. We have a problem for the next wonder. We don't have a paper monopoly *and* we are trading Khmer stone so he is probably well on the way to completing it. The tech choice of education I inherited doesn't open up another wonder.

Edirne needs some worker actions. AI spies destroyed a mine and camp. One worker is heading to the camp right now.
Canterbury should be able to whip forge in 2 turns.
With the English war over, I am back to courts in our southern cities. We need to improve the economy. London will save several bucks a turn with the court.
Nottingham needs to stay in culture mode.

Our troops are collecting again by Bactra to move forward vs. Persia. Watch the stray Longbow from him behind our lines.

Sounds good LKendter. So if I understand correctly we already have a city from Persia. Our economy is into shambles but you are already picking up the pieces. Markets in our shrine cities should work and some courthouses. SC already in in 6 turns. Not bad at all. Too bad if we do not get a chance on UoS. We could still start it in the hopes to get failure gold. That would keep the economy afloat for a little while too.

Another GG in and another GP in. If we can push on in Persia that could net us 5 cities which would be great. Will have a look at the save tonight. Good turnset LKendter.
 
York got a market - that helps.
Ankara can spread Christ now (once some other cities swap to military).
The courts will really help in the south (should recover several bucks).

The challenges are next wonder and York culture besides the obvious take second city from Persia.
 
Glad you started the war quickly. That would have been my vote.

I suppose that WvO is our only friend now?

It seems a good thing for us long term that Vicky broke from being WvO's vassal. He should still be the Pope and is the one who proposed the war's end I believe. Does Bactra have Jewish? We are very close to having more Jewish population than WvO, English and Persia combined to win the pope seat ourselves.

Just had a quick look at the save. Few things I noticed:

1) Darius is in full war mode. Building troops everywhere so this war will be hard and tough :) Too bad we cannot bribe anybody into war. Survy is the only one who would join us but we have nothing to offer.
2) Canterbury has a great spy selected. I would switch him to a mine asap and start building jewish buildings. The hammer bonus is too good to pass up on.
3) York is not working the wheat. Is there a reason for it?
4) I would even insert a monument at Nottingham (ready in 2 turns) then library then units.
5) WvO is pleased with us. Is he crazy enough to give Drama if we beg?

Does Bactra have Jewish?
Yes, I spread it during my set. It was the only spread due to the temp English headaches. We do need to get back to missionary spread mode for Christ soon enough.


3) York is not working the wheat. Is there a reason for it?
IIRC correctly it hit happy cap with English war and I was trying not to grow more miserable faces. With English war done, we can go back for a bit. Not sure if it has more buildings we can whip for multiple people at once otherwise red faces a waste.
