MB4 - GOTM24 Redux [ptw]

Typo: The steal was of Radio

No war with Han, just worried when a couple of transports show'd up and we had undefended coastal cities (now that Amphib War is out).

Starting on part 2 now.

With your current position in the tech tree, you may want to hold a group discussion about the potential use of any specific Easter Egg features that may be discovered by a careful review of where you are and what you may be able to do in the game at this point in time.

Honor would require that you share any knowledge that this hint might lead you to discover if you elect to use that knowledge in the progress of your game. ;)

Oh, and here's your special smilies for appropriate uses in this game:

Also, share with whom?

First THE SAVE

Rest of turn 5: City taken was: Tateyama

IBT: Takeda counter attacks kill 2 tanks

Turn 6 – 1385 AD – Hino taken – Sign Peace Treaty with Korea getting 10g + TM – Korea has Ecology (bonus tech) – Trade Coal + Radio + Wines to Chosogabe for Silks (a couple of war riots last turn) – Push lux to 20% to prevent rioting also add quite a few clowns – Han does not have ecology

IBT: Takeda counter attacks limited to 3 cavalry attacks and a couple of ironclad bombardments

Turn 7 – 1390 AD – Ohara taken (no losses) – Units in place for Yokohama and Santama – A finger slip leaves an explorer exposed – Possible trade with Chosogabe (flight for AW + $$) but I pass

IBT: Takeda counterattacks kill 2 infantry - Han have a foothold on Chosogabe island – Kofu flips back to Takeda :( - Palace Expansion

Turn 8 – 1395 AD – Yokohama (JS Bach’s & Copernicus) is captured (no losses) – Kofu is re-captured (loss of 1 elite cavalry) – Santama taken (loss of 2 vet tanks) – No trades available

IBT: Loss of 1 tank in Takeda counterattack – Korea & Takeda trade embargo over – Han Amphib invasion takes another Chosogabe city – Chosi flips to Takeda :(

Turn 9 – 1400 AD – Chosi is re-taken – Fujisawa is taken – Kitaibaraki is taken – Steal Ecology from Korea J - Position troops for assault on Funabashi & Adachi-ku – Takeda capital is isolated – Last Takeda rubber is un-hooked - There is an empty Army in Azuchi (Modern Armor or Mech Inf) – Only Korea & us have any modern age tech

IBT: Kitaibaraki taken by Takeda (loss of 2 tanks)

Turn 10 – 1405 AD – Retake Kitaibaraki – Take Funabashi – Taje Adachi-ku – Shimazu has bought Ecology, so time to trade it – Trade Ecology to Han for 686g + Amphibous War + WM – Trade Dyes + Wines + Wool to Korea for 42gpt

Notes: There is a GL (Kuki) in Azuchi & an empty army waiting to be filled. Enjoy.

Now I got to go back and look for the surprise.

Perhaps this is what Cracker was hinting at :)

Good work on the Takeda denyd

Ted

I have had a couple of RL issues to resolve over the new year period, namely I have no hot water or heating and twin 3 year old children. Consequently I have not been on the boards much recently.

Cracker contacted me recently and explained the late game easter eggs. I have not decided yet whether I should divulge this information verbatim, but I assume that this is what he was referring to. I have just been tardy, for which I apologise.

I have not played the game to the point of making use of this information, but for now I have decided to release the following information which is a compromise.

One of the late Industrial age techs will allow the building of a unit that you will not have encountered before, but that you will almost certainly be aware of in the historical context of Japanese history of this period. This unit may well be beneficial in acheiving a conquest victory.

The revised 'pedia will tell you what the unit does and what it costs to build etc.

I agree with cracker that the team would benefit from discussing how to use this unit once it has been discovered.

I will copy this post into the other two threads, since the teams are not far behind you in the tech tree.

EDIT: Crosspost makes my post irrelevent. :)

The only downside I see in using Kamikazes is their throwaway nature.

At 40 shields they seem to be an ideal first strike weapon. Using Carrier Groups we could make a mess of the Han without much risk of loss to our own forces. Their range is also sufficient to allow land based attacks against the Choso and Shimazu.

I vote we try them out. Perhaps a "live trial" against the Takeda would be in order? :)

Ted

I got it. I'll see what I can do kamikaze wise. :) This will be a great unit to build in population-rich, low-shield cities.

I opened the save just now, and boy do we look in good shape, well done everybody!

I've seen the Kamikaze already when I checked out flight on the 'pedia on my turn. I meant to mention it and forgot again.
We definitely should try them, even if it is just to see how they work. But they have to be hugely effective to to make it worth to 'sacrify' loads of pop on them.

Exactly!

If we start building them now then they should be ready just in time for the Han or Shimazu wars :)

Ted

If the civilopedia entry is correct, then Kamikaze can do 3hp of damage (rate of fire 3) with bombard strength 12. If I understand bombardment correctly, this makes them 3/4 the power of a tank with 3hp. ;)

I saw the Kamikaze on the build list and read the civilopedia, but since I don't normally build cruise missles, I didn't start any.

A couple of questions/points:

1. What's the smilie names for those icons that Cracker posted (I'd like to use them)?

2. It' looks like the Takeda are on they're last legs. We need to decide if we want to take all they're continental cities and then have to amphib invade the 1 tile island or sue for peace when we get them down to 2/3 cities and get those cities as tribute.

3. I pretty much turned off science (15 turns was the max for any tech I could get), we need to decide if stealing/trading is the way to continue.

4. The Han have started on the Chosogabe. Do we want to join in the munching? Should we help the Chosogabe? We could blockade the short path to their island cutting down on reinforcements and trade them oil/rubber.

5. Is the Shimazu next on our hit list or is it Korea or Chosogabe?

6. There's a Great Leader waiting for a wonder to build, if both UN & SETI are available, do we need a pre-build to get both?

7. We've got an empty army (and one being built, could be the pre-build), what should we fill it with?

8. Is it time to start building air/naval power or should be concentrate on our local (Takeda, Chosogabe & Shimazu) conquests for the time being?

9. I want to thank Ted & Shevek for setting me up so well to chomp up the Takeda. It was a lot more fun than defending against them like last time.

10. We need to be sure to keep our coastal cities well defended with Marines available. Seeing the Han use 4 BB's to bombard a Choso city and then take it with Marines, is the best reason why.

11. Any thoughts about moving the capital to ex-Takeda territory? It would get more distance between the cores and we've got a lot of workers available to quickly develop the area.

12. Coming soon, aluminum & uranium. Let's hope we'll be able keep one or both out of the Han hands.

13. I think there might be a couple of nukes used before this one is all over.

Well, time to get back to work, I'll check back later.

EDIT: PS: Could someone post the score for me, thx

Denyd, I'll react to your points later, but regarding the score: do you have the autosave from the 1400AD save? It's that score that MB wants to have. We could use the current save but then the nice line between the points will disappear from the graph. BTW I'll pley 9 turns to even out the years.

Did I play 11 turns?

I'll get the score from the autosave tonight.

Thanks

@Space: I guess I shouldn't have played 11 to even the date up :)

@denyd: 1)

2) I'd prefer to wipe them out if that's practical :)

3) Stealing seems preferable to me as the gp disappear rather than lining some AI pocket

4) Blocking the HAn seems the best course to me. After all, WE want those luxuries :greed:

5) It depends on deal expiry

6 & 7) Leader for one, pre-build for the other

8) If we are going to try the Kamikazes then we should start building them now to use later. It might be an idea to build some in high shield/pop-capped cities to try them out on the Takeda.

9) That's the joy of playing as a team :)

10) Good point. We'll need to garrison our Southern coast once we start on the Han. Or we could build Carriers and bomb them before they reach land. Either works for me

11) Difficult to estimate the loss/benefit on that one without an awful lot of calculation. By eyeball it doesn't look particularly attractive :(

12) Fingers crossed

13) I've got my tin hat and NBC suit to hand :)

Ted

On to your points:
1. just right-click on the smiley and look at the properties, it states the link.
2. I would like to get rid of them, they've attacked us 1 time too many
3. yes keep stealing, if we want to keep fighting let's get our cities to produce troops, troops and some more troops
4. (and 5.) we again have a lot of deals going on at the moment keeping our hands tied. I'd say Choso if they're still around, I won't make new deals. I'd say, Korea or Han next. Shimazu last.
6. good call
7. hmm, I'd say Tanks (both Tanks and Infs will be obsolete soon but Tanks have double attack)
11. it's what we aimed for earlier but I'm not sure whether we still have the time to build new factories and such.
13. I think you're right. :nuke:

edit: interesting cross-post. :)

2. Takada to go or not. I would take them down to 1 city and get the 1-tile island. We are then in a position to take them out after 20 turns.
3. On the steals. We need to continue to push our uni, library builds so we can get AHEAD of the others. We have to get to MA 1st to get the HAN. We are the biggest civ around. It is not right that we should be behind.
4. I say use an army and get the city with Leo's and lux at a minimum. Leo's will be nice for upgrades. Obliteration after that. Some of those cities will produce being so close to Kukiyama (Capital).
5. As prior posts state, deal expiration is key. Both for my two cents. A Shimazu city on the other continent would be nice. Lux city on their turf too.
6. I think looking at the save we have plenty of elites left to get another leader. I would build a factory/uni in a city that needs it. It's only risk is if we don't have prebuilds waiting. Fission is still maybe 10 turns away and then 6-7 turns to build for them. There will be a few leaders to be had I would think. If we prebuild for both in our top sci cities we will be assured either way so getting a factory/uni would be my choice. Ise is one of them. Palace prebuild and don't let it complete. Burn shields off if need be.
7. Fill army with infantry and land on Choso lux/Leo city with tank support. Let army complete for landing on Shimazu lux cit or if timing is right take the wonder when it becomes available.
8.I would have the harbor cities on the N and S coast that are bot corrupt all building battleships. I would also reconfigure the tiles for max shields for 12 pop and get them there. We are going to need a navy.
9. Great job indeed.
11. Let corrupt cities grow for taxmen/scientists.

Also, we need to ID all the oil and rubber and plan to pillage/capture ALL of one or the other to prevent tanks. If that becomes our first goal militarily, the conquest will fall into place with ease.
I don't think the kamikazes are an easter egg. They were in the GOTM originally. I remember Choso bombing me with them after I took out Mori. Aren't easter eggs something not found in the instructions. They are in the Civlo. Lets give them a run but they look like a weaker cruise missle with less attack.
I would also merge some workers into cities that can build relatively uncorrupted and have tiles available. Tottori and Kyoto jump out at me on mapstat though I can't see the tiles here at work. Others may be New Nagoya and Embichi.
When I opened the save I saw that the slider could drop and a lot of cities could go to taxmen. IIRC I got gpt to 462, about an 70gpt difference.

Good luck Space. Happy hunting.

Score at 1400 AD: 2749 (1st place)

2 - Takeda 2585
3 - Shimazu 2013
4 - Han Dynasty 1976

By the way we are last in culture among the contenders, so expect more flips.
