MB4 - GOTM24 Redux [ptw]

Sounds like I'll have a little mop up duty on the Takeda once Shevek is done. Those tanks should be rolling over him by the time it's my turn.

A little thought, check out where his oil (if any) and rubber are and if very far from the front send an Infantry Army and a couple of cavalry to remove those connections. It's much easier for tanks to roll over riflemen/cavalry than infantry/tanks. A couple of destroyers might also be able to do the trick if the resources are coastal.

With Amphib Warfare on the board, we'll need to make sure our oil source is well defended.

I'll check back later to see if Shevek is done so that I'll be able to play and pass it on later tonight.

IT
we lost source of ivory
a number of cities riot
loose 1 tank, 1 inf and 1 cav but take out 2 inf and 1 cav

10. 1355AD
capture Shimoda
sink Takeda frigate

I have the feeling that I played 1 turn to much

I have left 2 groups of tanks and infantry at Takeda border unmoved for Denyd to decide which way to go with them.
Flight is due next turn. I guess I screwed our research policy up somewhat. This area seems to be my weak point. Denyd, I hope you can catch up a bit.
The Chosogabe do not have flight yet and might trade a lux and amphibious war for it.
Good luck and have fun with the tanks.

The Save

Firaxis Score 1355AD 2577

(Firaxis score 1350 AD 2559 - I am not sure if I should have finished here.)

BTW, we are now in the number one position by score.

The arrows show the unmoved troops.

A nice bit o' :hammer: on the Takeda, Shevek.

I'll try to follow up by adding Kofu, New Fuji and a couple more cities to our collection. Maybe even straighten out the front.

Any thoughts on a revolt to a less WW government?

I suppose I could raze a couple of Takeda cities and get peace (w/ a couple more cities) and switch opponents, but I like the idea of removing the Takeda from the game and owning the whole island.

I should be able to start tonight. I probably won't get all 10 done, but I'll post a update tomorrow on my progress.

Good stuff Shevek

I can't help but feel that the AI is yanking us about rather than vice versa :)

Every time we settle on a plan someone (unexpected) declares on us :)

Give those Takeda the boot denyd! Then we can concentrate on the good stuff :)

Ted

In my experience with warring while in Republic 30% lux is the max I have ever needed when they declare on me. Monarchy would really hamper our economy/research and we hava to try to be first with MA's. Hopefully we can as I envision, secure a beachhead on Baekje or Gogo and get about 80 tanks over there ready to upgrade just as we get MA before Han. Well, thats the wish list anyhoo.

We are currently on 10% lux and were for a while on 20%. That is not that high per se but in terms of gpt rather expensive anyway. But no need to revolt yet unless we cannot effort Republic any longer, I should think.
I also think we should wipe out the Takeda first. Baekje is dead anyway and Gogu will follow soon (the Han and Korea are busy on their Island).
Our other goal, the Choso, are out of bounds for another 17 or 18 turns as I made peace with them to relieve some stress.
So best is Takeda now and then maybe straight to Han if we can afford enough Umph (military power) by then?

It took me nearly 2 hours to review what was going on last night, so no new developments. I should have results (partial??) tonight.

I agree with Shevek about getting Takeda out of the way, but not sure about taking on the Han yet. Don't we have a weak neighbor still to crunch. I'd like to have all of the northern hemisphere in our control and then begin to loot and pillage the south.

The good thing about the Han-Korea war is that it'll keep the age change bonus tech that Korea will get from flowing to the Han.

If Korea gets fission and the Han get it for peace, the UN will be hard to get. :(

If the bonus is Computers our tanks might be facing Mech Inf :(

I'll try to hurry along the Takeda demise and then we'll have to evaluate the next course of action.

Hi guys....

Denyd is UP, and yes you should be finishing at 1350.. 1400.. 1450 etc for a while at least.

But not if we get to MA 1st. That is why I am a strong advocate, and have been, of building more universities. Try to build a few in cities that don't have them and libraries in others. With a prebuild and/or leaders we should be able to snag the UN.
Right now the importance is to :
1) Take out Takada with primary force.
2) Get spies in all civs we are at war with.
3) Send tank army to a Choso city for lux. The far west city would do nicely. Use a smaller force there of infantry to hold cities and tank army with 4-5 tanks assisting to take a city every couple/three turns. They are small and do not require the full brunt of our strength.
4) Monitor techs diligently, every turn, to maximize our trading/stealing through Radio and flight and then to Fission/1st tier and MA.

After the Takada demise we should follow with the following IMHO. When we have MA we should land forces near all the Han oil spots and get those cities out of the way 1st. 2 boats with 10MA/6MI should take and hold @ Han oil city. We should also get a tank or MA army to Shimazu to hit thier oil and just sit on it until we can mop them up last or during depending on our production of MA. This will also require battleships to cover transports. Outlying cities that can make a battle ship in 20-30 turns should do so. Once we get to MA and secure ALL oil I think we should shut off research and use cash to rush more MA to our final conquest.

Just one small suggestion: keep building Armies in Azuchi as Armies will really help us to build up some speed in our wars and we don't really want to be relying on luck to generate leaders :)

I think we're almost at the point where we can declare and win wars against all the AI (as current deals expire) as long as we have an Army that we can dedicate to pillaging each AI we're at war with.

Pillaging Armies are the key to bringing down the AI as they can cripple both production and trade very quickly, leaving us greatly weakened opponents to mop up as more units become available.

Ted

Even though we may need to go lux 30% that will be offset by both thier lack of production and our obtaining the Choso lux in the near future. Pillaging kills them as I can attest from Shermans War and personal experience. Cutting the capital ties will hurt them bad. Now that we are rail-netted once we cut down Takada we can leave just minimal forces on the home continent and send the bulk to fight overseas to cut thier oil and get more lux. We can do this and quickly too, I believe, if we accomplish the killing of thier oil supplies and knocking thier capitals offline.

Sounds all quite good. It still amazes me that armies seem to be so rarely attacked by the AI, though.
With regards to choosing Han as the next 'victim' of the glorious Oda, they are the strongest of the AI left. We could get support from Korea and any other of the AI which can bother the Han and draw some troops away.
I would not like to have the Han left as a kind of super power, especially with their research rate.

Can we steal techs from AIs we are at war with? If no, being at war with all of them could cut us off from obtaining techs and our research rate is not really great atm.

It is easy enough to check, see if option is available to steal from Choso. I know you can get spies which I would surely get with Choso if we don't have one already. Also, going back to a prior post on gov't changes. Are we religious? I forget. If we are, we could switch over to Monarchy if war weariness posed too much of a problem though Republic is better for research. As to the Han being our next opponent, IMO, we wait until MA to invade him. War with him and send pillaging army would be great. I would really like to get a beach-head near some of that Choso lux and concentrate on finishing off Takada while diligently watching trade screens for flight and radio. Our trading over the next 2 players turns will be critical. I think it is important that we not fall behind again and hopefully establish a lead towards MA. Again, uni's in remaining core and 2nd ring cities and library rushes in the balance will get us ahead of the other civs. We have to get to 4 turn tech discovery and then keep the others at war while we proceed at a 4-turn clip.

Well that's six hours in the books for the 5 turns so far (not counting the 2 hours of prep on Thursday)

I think there'll be smiles all around: Pluses: We're in the modern age and don't seem to be behind in tech. The Takeda cities are falling in bunches (10 so far). We have a GL waiting for a wonder to build.

Here's the results so far:

Turn 0 – 1355 AD – Position tanks to take Kofu – Send work crew to connect Shimoda – Move infantry to support northern invasion – Sell Mass Production to Goguryeo getting WM + 6g + 3gpt + Embargo against Takeda – Hire a couple of scientists to prevent rioting

IBT: Lots of Takeda ironclads bombard coastal improvements (only one is successful) – Wounded Elite Battleship (1/5) survives 2 ironclad attacks – A couple of Takeda cavalry enter our territory – Note: With Amphibious Warfare available we’ll need defense in each coastal city – Research Flight complete research Radio due in 15 (!!) – As cities complete tanks I have them build an infantry unit until coastal garrisons complete

Turn 1 – 1360 AD – Notice New Azuchi building palace that will be ready before science makes any wonder available and switch to Battlefield Medicine - Kufu captured (lose 1 vet tank – kill 4 units) – New Fuji captured (no losses) – Elite tank victory and GL Kuki (lend me your comb J ) is born. Trade Dyes to Shimazu for 31gpt

IBT: Only a couple of ironclad bombards this time – A couple more Takeda cavalry & infantry move into our lands – A Han convoy (including a transport) show up as does a couple of Korean battleships – New Azuchi builds Battlefield Medicine – a couple more tanks complete – Palace Expansion – Turn off science to go for the steal (ready in 7)

Turn 2 – 1365 AD – Fuji taken (no losses) – New Kofu is taken (no losses) – Matsusaka taken no losses) – No trades available

IBT: A couple of Takeda Cavalry attacks bounce off our infantry – the Korean battleships turn south – A second Han transport is in sight

Turn 3 – 1370 AD – Shimada captured – Mishima captured – Okazaki taken – Sagamihara taken – No trades available – Takeda will talk peace, but I don’t think so

IBT: 2 Cavalry & 1 Destroyer are lost to Takeda counter attacks – Korea destroys Gogury – Korean tank lands on Kuki Isle - Showing the usual RNG luck, 3 Han Vet Battleships attack and lose to a Vet (then Elite) Choso BB without a scratch and then it's sunk by a Reg Destroyer :)

Turn 4 – 1375 AD – Setagaya-ku taken – Tateyama taken – No trades available

IBT: Takeda ironclad sinks Cannon Kubla moving to help out Kuki Isle – other Takeda ironclads bombard our coast (no effect) – 3 Takeda Cavalry bounce off our infantry - The Korean tank kills a Vet Infantry moving to reinforce Kuki Isle

Turn 5 – 1380 AD – Choshi taken (2 elite tanks lost to 1 1hp Vet Infantry) – Samurai (Shot-in-the-Dark) on a suicide attack kills Korean tank – I took another city but forgot the name (I'll add in the next log), And for me a first, a steal of Flight from the Chosogabe – From what I can tell (no view of Korea & Takeda), no one has any Modern Age Tech :D

Enough for tonight – I finish tomorrow

Denyd, this sounds great so far. The Takeda should be history soon.

What happened here? We have dueling flights.

Irregardless of that undoubtable misprint, great looking turns. I also must have missed the part where we are at war with the Han.
Also, I for one, appreciate the time and effort everyone is putting in on this game. It looks hopeless on the scoring front but we may still pull this one out if we can conquer first! It looks like we can win, especially if we can get thier capitals and oil/rubber cut off. Afew strategically placed armies and they are back to cav. Takada is showing us that that is no match for our mighty tanks.

Go team!
