MB4 - GOTM24 Redux [ptw]

Goals:
Continue Hand-it-to-the-Han preparations.
Try to max score.
Start war before the Han is a nuclear superpower.

Pre-turn:
First I look at our cities. Aki does need a harbor. I will hurry one, it is rather close to our core and will get us more money and so it'll pay back itself. I give it a temp taxman.
I'll tax a lot more of our corrupt cities and make them super happy at the same time. I can use workers to shortrush explorers, but they'll be ready in 10 turns, which is too late. I do it anyway, the 13 that we have now is too small a number IMHO.
I'm finally content with the builds and happiness and press enter.

IT
Much naval movement by the Han.

1660AD - turn 1
I place my totally innocent explorers on the 2 Oil sources, the 2 Alu source and the Rubber, in pairs. My worry is that we should defend the spot, other wise the Han will re-connect them just as soon but I don't want to alarm the Han too much. The Explorers act as placeholders to at least be able to get at them.

Buy Korea's WM for 2g and WM, this reveals the railroaded Oilsource on the Choso island now in control of the Han, time to get an Explorer over.
Buy Han's WM for WM and 5g.
Shimazu has Fission, won't part with it, but we sell our WM 17g and WM.

The investigation of Yongbyon shows the Han have 3 sources of Uranium which we can't see. A safe steal from Shimazu costs 3300-ish, which we can get in 3 turns. I think we need to, so I'll save.

I find some more arties and settlers and ship them over too.

IT
Quiet really.

1665AD - turn 2
I deliver more troops, still more underway.

IT
I can feel the storm coming, it's so quiet.

1670AD - turn 3
More troop shipping.
The Han have 2 nukes, that scares me they will prolly attack their own cities that we captured. We need to attack and conquer 1 more city than he has nukes. Next turn I'll be able to safely spy.

IT
The Han and Shimazu sign peace.

1675AD - turn 4
There's enough money for a safe steal ...here goes... YES!!!!!
MB4-PTW-StealFission.JPG

We have 4 connected sources but I only find 2 of the Han. Oh no, the last one is on the rim of the map, on a mountain that has a Radar Tower and is prolly defended like the AI always does. Ah, we're lucky there's only one road that leads to it. Since the Explorers are all occupied I'll use Modern Armours for the three Uranium sources.

The Han still have 2 nukes, we'll have to attack certainly 3 but better still 4 cities. Next turn will be the start of serious action!

Please don't forget to move all troops into position before declaring. It may also pay to investigate the cities you are choosing to attack to see what defense awaits so you can portion out the troops to what you may encounter. If your sure that the city will get nuked you could position artillary 2 tiles away so that they won't be destroyed. The MA positioning is a tough call. Good luck Space. Also, an airport would be vital once we are established there.

Don't worry Barbslinger, if we're gonna RoP rape, we gonna do it right, right? :)

I'm not sure the nukes are going to be used on the newly captured cities. This position is as new to me as it is to any of us. It is the worst case scenario, since we've got to have an airport on the continent, it is the first goal we have to achieve. As it stands the Han forces are primarily naval, so airlifts are our safest form of transport now.

Do the Han have a lot of bombers?
That might be a danger to any of our airports on the Han continent.
In a previous game I had noticed that bombers almost always take out airports first. So we should see that we get a 'back-up airport' going as well, just in case.

Anyway, good luck, Space.
This is really one of those few games that keep on the edge of your seat until the very end.

I'm in turn 8 now, and we still have a toehold. The Han are slowly running out of offensive weapons. They are no longer stronger than we are, according to the Military advisor. :) No nukes have been used so far. The Han did manage to build 4 SS-parts though.

Good news Space

Ted

The world waits for Space with baited breath (well at least three teams worth of lurkers :D )

Well as the old saying goes "No nukes is good nukes" (sorry  )

Keep the :hammer: going, I'm looking forward to reading the log.

Just a reminder, the Cracker post mentioned using combat settlers to reduce the travel in foreign lands.

BTW, how's the war weariness??

She's killing me. The tension is just rippling off the computer screen. :D

Our primary reason for not going to Monarchy before was needing cash for tech, now that we're beyond that and have picked up lux it may be time for gov't change.

Firstly: The 1700AD save.
Firaxis points: 4648

I've put the troops into position, cross fingers hoping the Han won't declare IT.

IT
The Han build SS Storage/Supply.

1680AD - turn 5
Ready or not here goes:
1. declare the Han
2. sign MA with Korea for RoP and 1201g
3. pillage Han resources, some explorers escape onto Korean turf.
4. Our 10 Art and 5 MA are enough to capture Changyon.
5. The two other cities fall too.
6. Found the city that will have the airport, Korea left us with too small an amount of money to be able

to rush it this turn...
7. Our arties and cruise missiles sink a good number of Han's battleships.
8. It's a joy to rid the former Shimazu lands of the Han. :D

IT
I hide under the table and press enter...
Korea moves first, good!
Han recaptures Changyon and plants a seriuos stack near Yongbyon (about 25 MI and MA).
Phew, no nukes.
our explorers are captured and the resources will be reconnected soon.
The pillaging MAs and MIs kill of a lot of units before they die.
The Han build 3 new SS parts!
The UN vote comes up, I'm temped, just to see how the vote would go...

1685AD - turn 6
I decide to abandon Changyon, and found a new coastal city. The Arties hurt the units that massed near

our town.
Hurry an Airport in 1 of the 2 new cities, will hurry the next one next turn.
Our military is now avarage vs the Han... [dance]
Capture Muroto in the former Choso area, and it contained all the Han Bombers. [party]
Take the time to manage the mood, we will lose some WLKDs.
Misclick an we will lose another explorer. :(

IT
Korea valiantly attacks the Han troops on our land.
Three of our four cities are recaptured. Our Airport city holds!
The Han move almost their entire naval force into a city we are about to capture. :smoke:

1690AD - turn 7
WW hits us hard, lux to 50%.
I raze a couple of the Northern Han cities, including the one with the ships. :) He has lot left though.
I disconnect all of Han's Silk.
Fly over a hoast of troops, recapture a stack of Arties.

IT
Are we on Shimazu turf? He demands that we leave??? Ah, his borders expanded.
The Han destroy our Airport with some of the captured Arties. :(
A Cav destroys our MA.

1695AD - turn 8
Rebuild the Airport.
Decide that we need to reclaim our Arties, attack Keasong. Yes, we've recaptured the Arties and killed a lot of Han's troops and an Army in the process.

IT
The Han try to reclaim the Arties but only manage to kill 1 elite MA.
They finish their 5th SS part.

1700AD - turn 9
Found Airport-2, next turn it can hurry our back-up Airport.
Airlift troops in, our toehold is getting stronger.
I continue to sail in Arties and workers.
Kill a Han stack, that contained a general.
The Han are already willing to talk and pay an handsome fee for peace. I don't think so....

Since it's a nice round date, I'll stop here, time for the next leader. :)

It's not really mopping up that needs to be done, lots of work left to be honest, but there's a start:

We should get the two coastal cities within range in the next turn. Our first goal should be the Rubber city, when the Han has lost that, it's a question of time only.

The settlers will allow us to chain cities. I did not check Mapstat yet, but from now on I feel we should.

The Han still have their two nukes, although the resources are reconnected now, he did not manage to build any new ones (yet).

There is an empty army in the stack on the landing-hill. Don't forget to hurry the Airport in the second city.

edit: When looking up the score I noticed I did not quite finish the last turn, sorry.

Good going Space

BTW I see we still have our secret weapon - get that Otomo Spearman over there, he'll soon sort those MA out :D

Ted

Nice job in setting up the beachhead Space :goodjob:

I'm a little worried about those 3 nuke subs and what they might be carrying :nuke:

I'm also wondering where those 27 jet fighters are based. Our bombers will get toasted if we pick the wrong cities to attack.

Once we get those tanks upgraded to MA, we'll have a 6-1 advantage there in that category.

Ted: I think that O-Spear might be part of an army.

If we fill that empty army with MI we should be able to pillage any resource the Han reconnects without too much trouble. The AI normally avoids attacking good defensive armies.

Go get'em DaveShack :hammer:

First off good work Space :goodjob:

From my turn 2 here are the stats:

HAN -29inf,-12MI,-37 tanks, +3 MA and - 28 battleships
ODA -30inf, +46MI, -7tanks and + 9MA's

It looks like a good kill ratio. They lost 41 inf/MI to our gain of 16. They lost 34 tank/MA to our +2. Thats -75 to +18 or 4.1 to 1. The big gain was in ships.

Do we have walls on the new cities? HArd to tell from work w/screenshot. If we could get a fortress with radar between them I think we can then be well based and be able to just go and kill the outer ring cities with a daisy heading to Apollo. WE may want to invest some spy money investigating cities each turn. We should just raze all cities so recapture won't give them any buildings OR raze the others so when the Han is through we can possibly jump palace and really up our production at home with palace exploit.

We are 202 tiles or 22 9 tile cities from domination.
