I want to get a new total war game, however i cant seem to decide if i should get empire total war or medeval total war2. Which one should i get.

Quick Note: I enjoyed Rome Total War!

Get Medieval II and install the Stainless Steel mod.

Never buy Empire: Total War. There are no more major patches planned to be released and the game is still horrendously broken.

Well he Imperial Splendour Mod in my experience has made it quite fun.

The Mughals, Denmark, Portugal and Persia are playable; the factions are unique and more realistic and the economic situation is noticeable different.

I have both SS and IS and like both; however, as far as unique factions go, as far as naming and diversity I find IS a bit better. So many units, diff. cannons, cavalry, and all the such makes it quite fun, heck even unit sizes are tweaked realistically, for example:

Russian Inf. Unit: 180
Swedish Inf. Unit: 80
Prussian Inf. Unit: 135

The Russians have large units but bad morale, not so good accuracy, and all right hand-to-hand.

The Swedes have great morale, good accuracy and maybe the best melee stats.

The Prussians are tough, good shooters, durable in hand-to-hand and good accuracy.

I like the mod myself.

I got medeval total war,
thanks!

Its alot of fun!

YEah, Medieval is awsome. Make sure you get the Broken Crescent mod. Its truely quite epic and you learn a fair bit about the various middle eastern power.

Empire is fun, but the questionable AI hinders the game for me. Plus too much takes place on the campaign map and most battles go exactly the same. If I wanted a campaign map game, I'd just play civ that does a far better job of it.

I wonder if there's a mod that deletes horse archers from the game. I'd install that, too, unless you want to show off in screenshot threads.

Nah. Horse archers are fine when playing a mod that balences them. Horse archers were historicaly quite powerful when the enemy lacked cavalry or effective ranged troops.

I was wondering does the gold edition of medieval Total War II come with a poster chart, that shows all of the buildings, and units, inside the game case? I could have sworn it did, but my friend who borrowed it says no. Anyway, if it does not are there .pdf reference files for the game that show this useful information? I need this information as a reference to help create a techtree for a First Crusade mod for Civ 4. Thanks for any help.

It did.

Horse archers are the most boring unit in the game to utilize, and they're even more boring to fight against. I dread playing as any eastern faction because of it.

Then you need to play Broken Crescent. Just do it.

Do it! Come on, do it!

Does the gold edition come with a poster fold out? That shows the buildings and units. My friend just bought it he says it does not.

AARGH I'm so sorry I thought the gold edition and the collectors edition were the same!!

Wait, I have the collection box here...

So I got the:

-The game with an exclusive cover (It's just black instead of the blue)
-A bespoke Medieval 2 total war latinkon figurine, based on the actual in-game model and contained within it's own packaging.
-Exclusive Making of Medieval 2 total war documentary
-The Medieval 2 total war soundtrack specially remixed by BAFTA ward winning composer Jeff van Dyke
-A special Collectors Edition building planner poster
-Five high quality artcards inspired by the art of medieval 2 total war
-A map of the medieval 2 total war gameworld.

Spoiler :

This is how the box looks like.

How? They are awesome.
They always make me very nervous in battles because they can be very effective in large numbers.
Fighting with them is fun too. Though they are effectively useless in siege battles.

 So much Empire: Total War hate! I thought it was a great game!

I would say start off with Medieval 2 first. Also pick up the Third Age mod for it if you're interested in Lord of the Rings at all.
