Medieval European Mod II 2016-10-05

I am from Poland and I wanna speak of 13 century scenario. Teutonic knights are far too powerful in comparision with polish cavalry during that time. Actually Poland had very good heavy cavalry, however not so great numbers, that was very effective in coming battle in 1410 when Teutonic Order lost.
One other thing is graphic of polish special unit -hussar. It doesn't really remind hussar. For better looking graphic of polish hussar look here: http://www.civ.org.pl/downloads.php?Action=ViewDL&lang=Engl&type=Civ3&section=Mods&subcatid=22
It is small polish mod for Poland that contains the graphics of hussar.

P.S. Are there some new scenarios not included in the first page ?

I believe this is Piernik old winged hussar. Actually, the best would by Wyrmshadow's.

Although they are a bit late for Medieval.

This one looks nice. Why in original mod (first page download) is that inaccurate hussar grahic if other are available ?
Maybe this one is late but hussar comes with last science in research tree anyway.

Probably because Wyrmshadow made it relatively recently, after MEM II was released, or because the authors of MEM didn't like it for any reason.

But you know what? You can just replace it with the one from Wyrmshadow yourself, it's not very difficult.

The mod uses exactly the graphic shown above, by Wyrmshadow. It doesn't look like the early hussar from 16th century, but it's the best looking hussar unit available. The reason you don't see it is that you either just looked on the old screenshot on the first page, or you did not install the 1.3 patch properly, first page download as well :p

As for the Polish knights, they are not significantly unique on the global scale to make them more powerful than most Western knights. Teutonic Order wasn't defeated by a charge of Polish knights anyway, but by overwhelming numbers and tactical superiority of the Polish-Lithuanian alliance.

There are no more scenarios than those listed on the 1st page.

You are right. I checked the installation again and now the hussar is right there.

I agree polish knights are not significantly unique in comparision to western knights. And of course polish knights didn't defeat Teutonic Order alone. Majority was polish-lithuanian force, but there were others too. What I mean is that quality of polish knights used in that battle was not in any way inferior to Teutonic Knights (that's why I don't like it inferior in the game in that time). I once had lots of data on that particular battle. Also polish-lithuanian force was not in so overwhelimng numbers. Teutonic order had lot of help from the west and they were not there alone too.
In general, some more numbers we had were mostly very light units that were no match for enemy's heavy cavalry 1v1, and only polish cavalry matched up and was core force to withstand and perform front attacks.

I have no much data about Grunewald battle. I know only that heavy cavalry of Polish-Lith. forces was mostly polish, the light/middle - mostly litvo-ruthenian and tatar.
Polish cavalry and teutonic crusaders were alike even in arms and polish knight is not weaker than a teutonic one. Many mercenaries from the West. Europe. - truth.
6/4/2 is too serious probably, but Poland have more resourses.

P.s.
I'm interested about the role of litvo-ruthenian and tatar forces in polish historical works.

Hello, glad to see the thread is still active. It''s been a while since I've played Civ 3, but a recent stint to Sardinia and a fascinating visit to a museum highlighting the island's history and occupation of, amongst others, the Aragonese and Castilians, I was reminded of this Mod. :D Re-Installed Civ 3 Complete on my Vista laptop, downloaded the Mod again, but have run into a snag. Whenever I want to start playing the Mod I get the following error message:

missing entry in "text\PediaIcons.txt": ICON_BLDG_GW_Kingdom_of_England. Game will exit now.

Can anyone help?

Hi everyone.
Golden Fleece, would you mind sharing with us how you work it out?
I've downloaded the mod and I do have the same problem but I don't know how to solve it.
Is something wrong in PediaIcons.txt?

Mine has:
Code:
#ICON_BLDG_SW_Pope
SINGLE
123
art\civilopedia\icons\titles\King-large.pcx
art\civilopedia\icons\titles\King-small.pcx
#ICON_BLDG_SW_Kingdom_of_England

SINGLE
123
art\civilopedia\icons\titles\King-large.pcx
art\civilopedia\icons\titles\King-small.pcx

Thank you very much,
Best regards

@pdjota
There is nothing wrong with the pedia. These errors pop up if you install the mod/patch in the wrong folder. Please make sure that both the mod and the patch are unpacked directly into Conquests/Scenarios and not into their own folder/subfolder etc. Same applies to any additional maps/scenarios - they will return these errors if they cannot find PediaIcons.txt in the right place.

This mod is really awesome :D I think it even better than the original game :D
You guys finished with this mod ? Or still working on it ? :D

pdjota,

what embryodead said. i just made the silly mistake of installing into the wrong folder. unfortunately, the vista security settings don't let me unzip directly into the conquests folder, and i copied the files to the wrong place. working like a beaut now, aragon chugging along nicely, with tatars and byzantines providing the headache. ;) still my favourite mod out there! civ 4 refuses to work on my laptop, and colonization is too powerhungry for my outdated machine, so i'm sticking with this ancient but still immeasurably pleasing game.
