Medieval European Mod II 2016-10-05

Sorry for teh spams :D, but here's a link to my MEM II-based story, featuring the Abbasids. Hopefully this will get more players to pick up this fantastic mod.

-> "The Will of the Caliph".

Nice looking mod, worth to try it and perhaps will like it

thank you to create it and share it (to the creator)

I just downloaded this mod and am trying a game (non-story... I still need to finish my AoI story) in the 13th century scen.....

All I have to say is DAMN! It took 15 minutes for the initial load, which, despite being smaller in size, is longer than Age of Imperialism! I just hope that isn't indicative of the turn times.

I'm playing as the Teutonic Order and I'll let you know how it goes. ;)

Actually, I'm about to invade Poland (too bad I don't have any Panzers).... :mischief: It ain't nothing personal... They just happen to have some Iron, Granite and other resources I need if I'm going to have any chance of surviving!

11th and 13th century scenarios are a bonus I've put together, they don't make a good judgment of the mod if you haven't played anything else. Just keep in mind that with 13th century one you skip 2/3 of the game (Viking Age & High Middle Ages are most fun IMO).

Turn times are pretty fast I think, at least until diplo spam starts...

Well, I just wanted a quick game for a break from AoI a bit.... I'll play a standard game later.

Hey guys I have a problem that occurs with this mod and its scenarios. It isn't so major that it makes the game unplayable but to me its very annoying. Instead of putting a date i.e. 1280 all it says throughout the game is nov. as the date. I was wondering if anybody else has encountered this problem or a problem like this and know how to fix it.

Downloading now. This looks very promising and looking foward to playing and leaving more feedback.

EDIT: Download was a long time and was looking forward to playing it but whenever I tried to load the game I got a message about a missing file. Something about a Stronghold.

Alright well I can't update it properly so its gonna be stuck like that but thanks for the help anyways

Such errors mean that the mod was not installed correctly. In order for Civ3 to find the mod files, all the mod and patch files have to be unzipped directly into .../Conquests/Scenarios and not into any new folder in that location (that is the most common mistake at least). The archive should be unpacked at once, you should not move any particular files by hand.

I've been playing this mod for a couple years now, and every so often in intense bursts. I've tried out virtually every position (except Teutonic Order which I'll probably play out later), and it has so much variety and richness. One thing I am slightly bummed about is the lack of a religious tech tree, similar to Rhye's of Civilization... but that's just a minor gripe considering all else. I'm very pleased with the level of quality put into this, and even the differences between civilizations (some civilizations get unique buildings/small wonders/wonders/attributes on top of unique units) are very unique compared to every other scenario I've played.

Whenever I play the standard version of this, I try to grab a gold resource as fast as possible. :) I usually colonize Sardinia with two settlers, one on top and one on bottom, to secure the gold. I really like the benefits gold gives me, and I view it as next-in-importance to the Holy Land resource. I've had a game where I'm Sweden and I launched a massive invasion force of the Holy Land simply to control that resource. I really wanted Crusader units (infantry and cavalry). :D

Right now I'm playing out a game as the Holy Roman Empire in the 13th century conquest scenario. I've played out Serbia, Papal States, other minor positions and succeeded, so I wanted a bigger nation which would thus be relatively more difficult due to the fact Germany is in central Europe... and due to the fact nations declare war fairly often, I've got hordes of AI armies roaming through Germany to get to the other side. So far, I've discovered Holy Roman Empire on that scenario will make you nervous as hell. The fact you can't just finish off people across one border, and rush troops to the other border, secure on most sides, makes it a rough game. You've got tons of AI troops constantly passing through/above/below the Alps to get to other AI nations on the other side, and it's very difficult to actually secure your borders.

I've managed to survive though... and it's been a complete blast. After a period of garrisoning my cities, constructing improvements (especially mills/guild halls for the added industry), I went after Burgundy. It wasn't easy and it actually took me perhaps 6-8 turns due to the fact that there isn't much of an advantage for offense in this map (which works out well). I was only building Imperial Knights, so I kept rallying them to Ghent which was within striking range of three northeastern French cities, including their capital of Paris. After a while of getting more troops, and waiting as the French and Castillians fought it out (weakening the French reserves), I set out to conquer France... which probably took me 15 turns. I had my cities set to Imperial Knights, but it's difficult to just mass and mass, which adds to the fun. When I finally took the last French city, and made peace with them, the French had taken the three northern Castillian cities (Aragon took the central two), and finished off the Castillians near Moorish Spain... so I effectively exiled the French to Spain. :crazyeye:

Then I set my sights to Italy, with Venice being reduced to just their Aegean territories, the Pope having conquered Venice and Genoa while the other Venetian territories were split between Hungary and Russia. I noticed the Golden Horde (Tatars) were very powerful at this point, having conquered Georgia and expanded a little into Turkey and half the way into the Ilkhanate's territory, so I signed military alliances with every Eastern European/Middle Eastern nation against the Tatars (except the Byzantines who thought I had nothing useful to offer, and the Marinids/Jerusalem whom I didn't bother to ask). I did this not only to help knock out a growing threat in the east, but also to divert the attention of every Eastern European nation further east, so I could freely gobble up nations throughout Western Europe.

It's worked perfectly. :D I took out the Papal States quickly due to my large cavalry force and their weakened state in the many wars they fought. Next was Sicily which fell somewhat quickly (I signed peace and didn't grab their two islands south of Sicily). At the moment I keep signing alliances against Tatarstan whenever the eastern nations call peace with them, I've blocked off the Danish peninsula in preparation for the invasion of Denmark (Denmark is at war with Sweden so I see that it's a good time to secure my northern border before Denmark gets stronger)... and in the near future, I'll want to go after Aragon which has grown in Spain. My long-term goals are to immediately conquer Denmark to secure my northern border, while conquering Spain to secure my entire western lines. This way, I can focus on going east.

Auf Wiedersehen!

Last night when I was going to post this, there was a database error for the forums for the final hours I was awake, so I didn't have the chance to post all of that above. I've made even more progress: conquered mainland Denmark, then swung around to reinforce Toulouse , blockade the border with Spain, and while the Aragonese were attacking the French and English (the English grabbed the lower Portuguese and French Castillian cities), I launched my invasion. I've kicked the Aragonese out of Spain, signed peace, and even conquered the Moorish city of Granada, the last French city. Now it's just myself and the Portuguese, whom I'll conquer soon.

I've managed to create a Pax Germanica without breaking treaties or losing integrity. :D

Thanks for the write-up Leobon, I'm glad you're enjoying the mod :D As for the religion tree, first of all we do have branches for the first two eras, you couldn't have missed them :p The rest is just done differently because instead of 7 or so religions there's 2 mutually exclusive ones + Judaism, so religious buildings and wonders appear within the normal tree but are restricted by starting techs.

Here's a quick screenshot from the game I played as the Teutonic Order:

...Shortly after that pic was taken, I declared war on Venice and was close to wiping them off the map when I hit the VP limit. :D

I was constantly behind in tech, due to my small starting size, and I LITERALLY spent the first half of the game building up for my massive blitzkrieg over eastern Europe... I took Poland in less than 10 turns, followed by Hungary, the Ruthenians and Lithuanians (or what was left of them after the Russians and Golden Horde went after them), after which I grabbed Bulgaria and Serbia.

Basically, I created a Prussian Empire that controlled almost ALL of Eastern Europe west of what would become the Soviet Union, and even parts of that as well, and as you can see, it stretched from the Baltic to the Balkans.

NOTE: the cities that have been re-named to German versions of their names are ones where I've achieved a population majority. :D

Thanks for the mod and scenarios. ;)

Yeah, I like the way Christian/Islamic/Jewish buildings, wonders, and small wonders are scattered throughout the eras in shared technologies, and I know there's a couple techs that are very exclusive, so what I should have said, and what I meant, is I like the two techs in Rhye's of Civilization in both era 1 and era 2, which offers a number of wonders and buildings. I like that kind of rich tech boost based on religion, but that's just me. I'm happy enough with this mod the way it is.

At the moment, I'm making a slightly edited version of the 13th century conquest scenario to include the Order of St. John (Knights Hospitallers). Of all the nations, it seemed the easiest to remove and save face by not ruining dynamics would be Bulgaria. I gave the top two cities to Ruthenia, the lower two to the Byzantines, and reassigned Rhodes to Bulgaria, Naxos to Bulgaria, and created two cities in southeastern Turkey on the coast (using mountains to form a natural barrier against Ottoman Turkey). I renamed Naxos to Kos, renamed the Pliska wonder and modified it to spawn Hospitallers (a new unit I added), and did some other work in renaming and modifying Bulgaria into the Order. I created Kerkira and Argostoli for Venice, both cities on two islands off Greece (respectively Corfu and Cephallenia), after moving Durazzo and Ras to accommodate. I kept the leader graphic of Bulgaria for the Order.

One of the things I love about this mod is the chance to play military orders (just Teutonic, but in concept it's thrilling).

You may also want to try Yoda's Twilight of Byzantium 2 scenario, it lets you play as Knights of St. John on a more detailed map of Mediterranean and has some special features that makes playing as the order more interesting (piracy, capturing shipments etc.)

Haha, already beat you to it. :P I've been playing Twilight of Byzantium for years. I actually finished my edited scenario, tested out the Order, and it's balanced as well as can be. It's very fun so far. Pax Aegeania :D
