Memory allocation error with viewports.

Are you sure that it's a MAF? Also, what are your system specs?
It said so in the popup. How do I check them?
OK, if there was a popup that is enough. What are your PC specs?
It involves reading the Minidumps, which requires much setup effort. I want to know what your specs are so that I can know whether you are using a 32 or 64 bit OS, and how much RAM and Video Memory you have.
Have you done the 3 GB switch? I had a similar machine in the pre-Viewports era, and it didn't MAF for me much after I did that.

What about the video card memory? (Right click on your desktop select properties, click on Settings tab, then click on Advanced button in bottom right corner, then click on Adapter tab. This will tell you how much vid ram you have.)

Lol. Switching was the only thing that allowed me to play without an instant MAF in the first place.

There is no properties option. Surely you're thinking of a different version of Windows (I have 7)?

So you have no way to see what your video card has on it? My son uses Win 7 and doesn't have that problem. And yes I'm using XP Pro x64.

It would be in the Device manager in Control Panel for win7.

Chipset... Ew, you have integrated graphics. It really only makes sense that you'd get MAF's. You have 3gb of ram and a portion of that becomes temporary Vram. My advice is to google your computer and see what video cards will fit in it.
I believe most laptops have the graphics card soldered directly on the motherboard. Am I wrong? (I have a Satellite L355)

You just need more ram. I have an intel HD2000 video chip and it runs C2C fine with 18 civs on gigantic map and a high graphics setting. I haven't had any problems with any games and I play everything from old games like Doom up to and including Skyrim. My chip is usually using around 1GB for the video so that still leaves me with 5 for the ram. I would suggest upgrading your ram at any rate as I wouldn't even consider a PC with less than 4GB of ram.

Problem is though that you probably have a 64 bit computer. His is 32 bit which can only use 4 gb of RAM max. On top of that you have intel's latest integrated chip with, as you said 1gb. His integrated chipset has roughly 412mb of integrated RAM AND on top of that the express chipset that he has is known to fail during games. So best course of action is to get a new mobile video card or get a desktop.
I survived playing C2C with that chipset (it's actually the GM945 I believe) for a year, and this was mostly before Viewports, so it can indeed be done. However, it isn't fun, and I personally would suggest an upgrade.
