Memory-fix by Harkonnen is out!

Harkonnen I don't find the attached file where it is... :crazyeye:

Excuse me I don't see the previous post that someone already say it.

And fot my upgrade, do you think that is better to upgrade Video Card or System Memory to increase my performance. With Christmas near I will do my list... ;-)

Thanks Hark!!!!!!

i just gave it a try.

my game runs now even better.
nice work!

but( there are always thes damn buts ;) ) would be nice if you put the show/hide button somewhere else.
cause of my german keyboard it just does not hide...
my ~ is not positioned left of 1. on german keyboard there is the ^ ...
~ is therefore not accssesable for me^^ (need to press "alt gr" + "+". patch is not interessted in that kombination ;) )
perhaps you can make it user definde by the .ini file?
sth like show_fps = [enter what ever you like]

Thanks Hark!!!!!!

If you are talking about intermediate release I've posted just now (last post on page 32), then you should set 'vid_mem_usage' to amount of video memory. Strictly.

dear Harkonnen,
now with the new patch the game works great!!!!
i have set the video_mem_usage to 256 ( i have a 256mb video card), but when i create a structure like stonehenge, the game can' t show the video and crash.....what i have to do, King of the modder :king: ???

@Harkonnen: I have tried the old version of your patch, but unfortunately with only little improvements. However, I am not only using the Blue Marble terrain but also have a GF4 Ti4800 card - which as you note seems to only benefit little from your patch. I wonder if it is something specific with the Ti-cards or something general with DX8-cards. I have just installed your new version and my first impression is that I cannot turn off the FPS meter. I have a danish keyboard with a "½" instead of "~". I hope you have the time for some kind of quick fix for this. Thank you for all the effort. I hope Firaxis will acknowledge all your hard work.

Thank you very much for the work you've done with the patch!

One for me very noticable improvement which has come with the intermediate release is that the intro movie now is alot faster then before. This has never been an importent thing for me but I couldn't help notice it when I fired it up after patching the program. It now runs smooth as silk. Before this patch it was really jerky and I never bothered to watch it til the end.
As for gameplay I yet havn't noticed any improvement or degradation though I couldn't say I had any big problems before either.

My specs:
ATI 9600 256Mb
1 Gb
2.8 GHz

Many thanks for your commitment in this game

Tip for those of you using a non-US keyboard and can't turn the FPS-meter off. It is possible to have several input languages installed in Win XP. If you install US-English input language along with your default language you can switch between different languages by pressing Left Alt+Shift. If you do this when Civ4 is running you can toggle the FPS-meter on and off with the key indicated by Harkonnen (the one to the left of 1-key)

I wonder what makes movies crashing now... I had them jerky with the intermediate release, but even running in '32mb video mode' (I actually have 128) didn't solve the problem. I think that when I avoid jerkiness here, I'll avoid crashing there.

I will release a versions which will use CTRL+ALT to turn info on/off.

Done (ctrl+alt)

Redownload from intermediate release post attachment.

What do you mean? Initially there was no attachment at all (forgot it). Then I uploaded update release. Then I reuploaded version with Ctrl+Alt (instead of ~ to toggle FPS meter). Probably when I was managing attachments (removed ~ version, then added ctrl+alt version) you have clicked on it...

Harkonen,

Just another one of your many fans thanking you for your great work. Ive got a Celaron 3ghz, 512Mb Ram, Nvidia GeForce4 Ti 4800 SE (128Mb), and although you said results wouldnt be that great on the GF, the loading time has come down a heap. Havent noticed all that much on game play, but havent tested it that much yet.

Also like the new changes which shows FPS and mem savings, however, to be nitpicky, the font looks a little... well, demented, on my screen at least. Has anyone else had this problem?

Also, I found having it in windowed mode makes a BIG difference. Idealy Id rather it full screen, but given how much faster it is in windowed I'll definatly be using that from now on.

Thanks again!

What actually you mean about the font? Is it small, hardly readable, blurry or fixed width?

Fixed-width is by design to make digits comparison easier...

I will check it full-screen now. I don't know why it can run better in windowed mode...

Wohoo! New error! It reads:

!ret && pVB , "c:\languags\projects\civ4memfix\patchbyharkonnen\com_wrapper.h" , 443

and is located in C:\civ4.error.txt

Hope it gives you more insight.

c) It saves geometry processing, not its size. I.e. same geometry data receives its clipping hints (and probably gets transformed once), but still all the data remains duplicated.

I think i understand thank you :)

I forgot to remove local asserts and that's good.... since we'd be in blackness with you without this error report.

It says it can't create vertex buffer.... I wonder why... When again this error happens? At which stage?

As a temporary solution please try reporting less video memory than you actually have. I.e. set 'vid_mem_usage' to 128, not to 256 with the update. With this change or another DLL we'll get this problem solved, believe me :)

All
I am still waiting for reports about gray leader-boxes and slower globe view as compared to no-fix...
