Also, making them unique units would make it very simple to add an extra per-turn fee for keeping them hired (via the "ExtraMaintenanceCost" tag), and would allow no-resource versions of units (which would make, e.g., mercenary tanks actually useful for someone who doesn't have current access to oil).Nice. This would take some work, but could you make it so that the mercenaries are unique units? I think having map cues light different unit art, different flags, etc would add a lot to the mercenary concept. Especially if you see your enemy has specific mercs, then you could know he is being supplied by someone else.
