Merz01 - Monarch OCC, Straight Up

No worries at all.

Ironworks

Cost: 700 (Double Speed w/ Stone)
Unhealthy: 2
Great People Points: 1
Requires: Steel, 6 forges

+50% hammer with Coal
+50% hammer with Iron
Can turn 3 citizens into Engineer

City more likely to generate Great Engineer

I think Ironworks is worth the trouble. We should get it done before we finish researching Fiber Optics so it will get us the Internet much quicker. Just my opinion though. If someone finds a better idea I am happy. That is how I learn. Hee hee. I am full of crappy idea and theories. The more that get proved wrong the better. :P
Unfortunately we don't have stone but maybe we could get some too.
I do like the fact that we have a better chance to get Great Engineers as I don't think Great Artists are that great really.
Making more Engineer Specs is very cool too.

Don't worry about me. I am easy going and I am enjoying playing with you guys. I'd like to do it again in the future if possible after we win this one. ;)

ok so it was 3...

well like I said, I didn;t want to start on ironworks without involving this thread as it has both positive and negative effects.

That said lets build it asap... 700 hammers now means it will be done before fiber is done.

We have iron and can only hope we have coal... since we have so many hills in our area and this is a balanced map, I'd say it's 9 in 10 we have coal within our borders.... cross fingers. If we miss coal it's be just like how we lost copper... right on the effing border.

Well that's one of the reasons I clammored for culture bomb on that artist... better to OWN the surrounding tiles then have to earn them.

ok just checked and 9 turns on and stone doesn't double it's speed.

considering fiber is at least 18 turns away, there's no danger of accidentally missing it in time.

Cheers!

+3 engineers can be hired? Cool. IW is worth it just for that.

Post-internet, we will HOPEFULLY be in a tech lead (otherwise we're lost), and will still need a decent tech pace to pick up Fusion/Genetics/etc. Ideally, we want to balance hammer and beaker generation so that we are always building space parts and are able to complete the last part the minimum number of turns after we research the last tech. Of course this is sort of an impossible calculus to get exactly right, but we need to be close to win.

After Internet we should sit down and write some charts... write up how many hammers to build the parts, and beakers to get the techs. Calculate what our city can produce assuming we farm over N towns and hire N engineers, etc. You will be AMAZED how fast the AIs can research in the late game and how fast they can crank out those parts.

The first thing to do after Internet is build Scotland Yard and a couple spies. Send one each to Cyrus, Mao, and Capac capitals. This will cost us about 7 turns on production but is worth it.

Can she get to us with OB with someone? If not, then it doesn't matter (unless she has transports en-route, which I doubt).

OB? What does OB stand for?

Looking at our options Mao is willing to declare on her for 890 gold. Nobody else is willing. Now, I haven't agreed to the deal with Mao but he is also willing to declare on Capac for Radio and Arty (if I remember correctly). I'm curious if he would still be willing to make the 2nd war deal after also declaring on Izzy?

According to the power graph Izzy is the most powerfullest of everyone, with Mao in 3rd. I believe I'm going for the deal. I'll pay close attention to the war to make sure someone doesn't take the upper hand.

Yes, Izzy does have troops in our territory.

Have any of you noticed that the pasture on the sheep image actually has the sheep outside the gate? Kind of odd huh.

Izzy is a joke.. only units she has is what zap built the rest of her empire is cut off.

Use her as exp fodder, our artillery can own all her units just escort with a gren or two to blunt counter attacks.

If you want to know where all her military is look at the scout by her city in north china lol.

Cheers!

Turn 283 (1826 AD)
Berlin begins: Ironworks
Methos: Decide to go ahead and switch to Ironworks. It'll take 9 turns to complete.
Methos: Rather than wait for Satallites to finish I go ahead and switch to Steam Power. IMO I feel this way we'll have plenty of time to get it hooked up before Ironworks is completed.
Research begun: Steam Power
Methos: Somehow the turn count is off. Oh well, I'll play 15 like I'm supposed too.

Turn 284 (1828 AD)
Methos: Our "friend" Capac isn't willing to declare on Izzy, though Mao is for 890 gold. They are immediate neighbors so it would keep her off our backs. Need to keep checking.
Methos: According to the power graph Izzy is the most powerful of everyone, with Mao in 3rd. I decide the deal is worth it as Mao shouldn't become too powerful from the war.
Machete Masta Hoopti Rida (Rifleman) promoted: Pinch
Rifleman defeats (3.92/14): Spanish Grenadier
Grenadier loses to: Spanish Rifleman (7.84/14)
Methos: Damage Roses falls in battle. Many tears are shed as he is laid to rest.
Rifleman defeats (14.00/14): Spanish Rifleman
Methos: Velvet Kisses in a fit of rage due to the loss of such a close friend, destroys the Spanish trash in such a valiant charge that the Spanish were unable to so much as scratch them. It is said that the Spanish cowered in fear at Velvet's rage.
Methos: Interesting, after our brief struggle with Izzy the price goes down with Mao. He was willing to declare for 880 gold.
Benjamin Franklin (Great Engineer) born in Berlin
Explorer loses to: Spanish Rifleman (14.00/14)
Scout loses to: Spanish Catapult (5.00/5)

Turn 285 (1830 AD)
Methos: I didn't realize we still had our two scouts around. Had is the operative word. They too have been laid to rest in the field of battle.
Methos: We got a great engineer! Decide to rest him as IMO we'll need him to rush stuff for us. At this point in the game I'm not sure if a super specialist engineer is worth it.
Tech learned: Steam Power

Turn 286 (1832 AD)
Research begun: Satellites
Methos: Woohoo! We have coal! One minor problem though, its on a border tile and is only 84% ours. Luckily its already mined and connected.
Methos: Looks like China has switched to a civic that doesn't allow non-state religions. So one missionary is acting as an observor while the other heads into Spanish lands as a spy.
Methos: According to the power chart Izzy has dropped in power while Mao continues to rise. Continuing to watch.
Confucian Missionary loses to: Spanish Catapult (5.00/5)

Turn 287 (1834 AD)
Methos: One of our missionaries, the 'spy', was captured.
Methos: Interesting. Izzy continues to drop in power and now so is Mao. Both Cyrus and Capac continue to rise.
Methos: Wow! Izzy has an army of 15 units heading towards Shanghae. 11 of them are Conquistadors.
Methos: Did I mention that was all on one tile? There are others moving about in much smaller patrols.

Turn 288 (1836 AD)
Methos: Boy the power chart is odd. Izzy is still dropping and Mao just skyrocketted.
Methos: Cyrus is now interested in declaring on Mao, at the cost of Electricity. I'll wait for a little while.

Turn 289 (1838 AD)
Methos: Izzy continues to drop and Mao looks likes he's levelling out. IMO from our 'spy' in Shanghai I don't believe the city will hold. Mao has too many cannons and not enough defenders in the city to hold it. Izzy has loads of troops knocking at the door.
Tech learned: Satellites

Turn 290 (1840 AD)
Research begun: Fiber Optics

Turn 291 (1842 AD)
Methos: Woohoo! Someone talked Vicky into attacking Izzy! Now to see if anyone else is interested in fighting each other. I'd rather of had Vicky attack Mao instead. Oh well, we can fix that.
Berlin finishes: Ironworks

Turn 292 (1844 AD)

Turn 293 (1846 AD)
Methos: I'm going to stop here. One, I need to get ready for work. Two, we need to discuss how to continue their war.

Cyrus is willing to dow on Mao for Electricity.
Mao is willing to sue for peace with Izzy for Artillery.
I forgot we were at war, but Izzy still does not wish to discuss anything with us. I remembered we were at war with her when I checked to see what she wanted for peace with Mao! Ha!

Originally I intended to use the great engineer to rush the internet. Didn’t realize it was considered a project, as well as all the other space ship parts (that includes Apollo Program). So the next player might as well join him as a super specialist unless someone has a better use for him. My apologies for wasting so many turns with him.

If we could just get Izzy to end the war with us I believe it’d be best to end everything. Mao looks like he’s going to take Izzy out which means he’s going to get way too powerful. If we bring Cyrus into the mix against Mao it should slow down Mao, but may increase Cyrus. Capac isn’t willing to go to war with anyone so I’m unsure what to do there. Looks like I made a very interesting mess of things. Lol!

Here’s the 1846 AD save.

@Liq: I didn't see your post until after I'd already joined Mao in. In all honestly I didn't believe we had much of a chance versus Izzy alone. Makes me curious if you were correct about her. One thing I would like to point out is look at my notes and you'll see how many troops she sent after Mao. And that was just one tile, thats not including the surrounding troops.

Good moves. I would say sic Cyrus on Mao, that would be perfect. Would prevent Mao from taking out Izzy, and would slow down all three. Is Capac willing to declare on anyone at all? What a bogus ally...

The engineer MIGHT be useful for Space Elevator. Problem is we don't know what elevation we are, which governs whether we can even build it. I say just join him. Even using him to rush he would only build half the Space Elevator; we'd have to take another 10 turns to do so. And I bet that we will have most of the space parts built by the time we get Robotics anyways (I doubt Internet will give it to us).

I think joining the Great Engineer is best. He may be able to rush Space Elevator but that's all. Unfortunately you can't rush spaceship parts. He can speed them up by adding extra hammers though. He will add a signifigant amount to a lot of things this way. Are his 2 hammers multiplied by all the multipliers?
Excellent job on getting the AIs to War. HC is more than useless. To think we were nice to that leech the whole game. *sigh*

I will play later tonight. Should be interesting. I will work on Fiber Optics and getting the Internet.

wow this game just blew up.

Thing about izzy is she is split. Zap is isolated and it's the only land that could get troops to us. All those troops you saw coming to us was from zap, we can take that town out but well I'd say it's better it lives as it weakens everyone.

Anyway yes try and get peace from izzy if we can.

good turn set methos, weird izzy would attack first turn after handoff. About the internet and the great eng.. np that's one of those facts you learn about AFTER it bites you in the ass.

I agree on melding the enginner as well.. not so clear cut an answer but 3 base hammers is a sizeable % of our base hammers.

Thor please squeeze an air raid shelter before I forget if it hasn't gotten done yet. A one turn build and it's MAJOR in a war.

After fiber I think best to work on our defense a bit but we need fission done sooner or later so might as well do that while internet is building.

Cheers!
-Liq

Yeah, after Internet we want to beeline for Fusion for the free Engineer, then we just research whatever is deepest in the tech tree (assuming anything earlier will eventually be given to us). Remember, the Internet is an ongoing thing - even after you build it you will get any tech that any other two civs know.

Ok. Got and will start playing after dinner. Mmmm....Kim chi. :p

Yeah, Capac is useless. He won't declare on anyone, even the weakest of them! I'm curious if this is normal for Capac, as in the files, or just this game?

Darn, the log doesn't show it. There was one small Spanish town that fell to the Chineses. I believe it was called Zapatec.

I never built a bombshelter. In fact I don't even recall reading about one. My bad. It was a very fun turnset! Wish we could get Capac to declare on someone. Anyone at this point.

Your wish is my command. Hee hee.

Preflight check: Everything AOK except for HC not going to war. We'll try and change that.
I switch to a bunker and Micromanage to get over 100 production so we can get it in 1 turn. We don't lose any science but we lose 2 food. Meh.
Isabella is not interested in hearing anymore of my lies.
Benjamin Franklin joined to Berlin. We now have 766 Beakers.
Oh, do we get any Gold/turn for water? Stupid thieving Incans. :P
civ4screenshot00303lt.jpg

Turn 1 (1848 AD) Bunker is built.
Our percentage chance of getting a Great Engineer is now 19% and rising.
Apollo in 14, Fiber Optics in 8.
"Sorry, Merz01, talk does not interest us." Stupid Izzy.

Turn 2 (1850 AD)
HC's Golden Age has ended. Awww...
Nothing else going on.

Turn 3 (1852 AD)
Vicky offers Nationalism for our Liberalism and 1000 gold. She must think I have stupidism. I file that under R for rejected. Great Engineer percentage chance now up to 20%.
"Your lying words pollute the heavens, Merz01." *Sigh*
Does talking to an AI every turn annoy them?

Turn 4 (1854 AD)
HC adopts Vassalage. Is he gearing up for war?
"Stop pestering me!" I think she secretly likes the attention.

Turn 5 (1856 AD)
HC declares war on Victoria! Woo hoo!
Hmmmm....Cyrus will declare war on Mao for 3030 gold. I will keep that in mind.

Turn 6 (1858 AD)
Warwick has been captured by the Incans. Isabella makes peace with Mao. :(
Our lying words still pollute the heavens according to Izzy. The cost for Cyrus DOWing on Mao is down to a mere 2970 gold.

Turn 7 (1860 AD)
Cyrus' DOW will now cost 3000 gold. I decide to go for it. It will leave us with 379 gold at 104 gold/turn. War should slow their tech down and hopefully these two titans will fight for a good long time. Mao is still pleased with us.

Turn 8 (1862 AD)
Naturally the Survey of wealthiest nations comes in the turn after we spend 3000 gold. We are still 5th though.
Cyrus adopts Theocracy and Vassalage. Go get him!
Nottingham fell to the Incans and is promptly burnt to the ground. Seems to be the best possible outcome.

Turn 9 (1864 AD)
Fiber Optics in. *Sweet* ^^ Nice to see that the Kremlin is obsoleted. No cheapy rush buys by the computer now.
civ4screenshot00328fe.jpg

Fission is the most expensive tech at 8222 beakers so I select that. It will take 9 turns.
I switch Apollo (6 turns) to The Internet which will take 14 turns. We are losing 1 food/turn but we will get Biology for free before we starve.
Cyrus has 6 Artillery, a SAM infantry and 9 Cavalry outside Tianjin. Mao has a 2/3 strength Infantry, a 1/4 Strength Infantry and a Cannon. Hmmmm...
civ4screenshot00335ky.jpg

Turn 10 (1866 AD)
Tianjin is captured as expected. There are 2 Persian Artillery, 3 SAM Infantry and 7 Cavalry in the city. Outside there are 9 Artillery and 5 Cavalry. Wow.
Ah...there's Zapotec. It's Chinese. I'm sure not for long though, looking at the Persian forces.

Turn 11 (1868 AD)
Victoria offers Open Borders. I turn her down.
Saladin offers Furs for Hit Musicals. Rejected.

Turn 12 (1870 AD)
The parade of idiots continues. Izzy wants peace for Liberalism. I counteroffer 300 gold and she jumps at it. Hee hee.
The Incans capture Chinook (A Southern English Tundra city) and raze it to the ground. I like his style.
Mao has 2 tanks outside of Tarsus. Should be an interesting war.

Turn 13 (1872 AD)
London has been captured by the Incans. Vicky is down to one city. Ow!

Turn 14 (1874 AD) Vicky converts to Buddhism and then is promptly destroyed. Somewhere there is a lesson to be learned in all that. The English are destroyed within a mere 10 turns. Oof..
I buy HC's World Map for 100 gold. HC kept Warwick and London and burnt the rest. Good boy. :goodjob:

Turn 15 (1876 AD)
Not much going on. Fission in 3 turns. The Internet in 8 turns. All is peaceful in Berlin. Great person due in 4 turns. After Micromanagement we are at even food and we will still get The Internet in 8 turns.
The Persians have 8 Cavalry and 3 Artillery outside of Circassian near us. Should be an interesting battle to watch. :)

Good luck. I hope the big dogs will continue to slug it out. Looks like the Persians have the upper hand at the moment. Maybe HC would be interested in going back to war again now that he has had a taste for blood. ^^

Our beautiful city. :)
