Mighty Suryavarman II

Ah nice... Ororo you catched me few minutes before going to bed, so I think nothing wrong with doing the scout move and post SS

looks promising imo

Civ4ScreenShot1288.jpg

we could get nice commerce city either 2E1S of the corn, or on the PH directly south (but surely needed more intel).

I have to think through a bit the scouting pattern, but to me it seems that north it's somewhat coast, so I would move only slightly there and go back to scout more around those flood plains while teching Agri.

to me settle on Marble

Very nice. We should be able to find a good city for bureaucracy.

Definitely settle on the marble for me. 2E of the corn is also good, but I prefer the early benefits of marble. Wet wheat > dry corn - 2H city center - and 1 turn ahead.

What Rusten said. 2E of corn indeed looks good too and may save us the hassle of moving the palace later, but indeed on marble promises to be a quick start and allows for scouting the nearby territory better for optimal locations. I do hope we're not crammed in though... Likely we want BW soon after agri to chop out some settlers asap. I'd scout roughly the half circle beneath the capital from west to east as we seem to be way north. Scout can go some tiles SW-ish and then head back east.

everyone content with settling on marble?

if yes I could kick up the game with going up to finishing agri later today.

I took the opportunity and played the round

Settled on the marble as discussed

if I read it correctly there should be no Charismatic leader?
Most AI's should be landlocked or with very few coast tiles (lake tiles)

T3 we meet Saladdin from the west

T10 comes in, I selected BW as next tech, didn't move the worker, but I suppose he will go farm the wheat.

I start to like the map ;-). Seems like plenty of food. I predotmapped 2 cities around our capital, another city would be clearly somewhere around sheep+gold.

Another possibility is teching AH next instead of BW due to the amount of pasture food in future city spots.

So thoughts?

I could hand over or continue up to next tech finished after we settle discussion.

BW sounds fine by me. Hopefully there's a source of copper somewhere, so we don't need to tech Archery.
Sal seems to be very close so maybe we want to settle the Corn city first before going for the juicy Pigs/flood plain city otherwise Sal might beat us to it.
Do we want to go for the Oracle? If so, do we want to tech Masonry?
I think you should play another 10 turns sice there hasn't been much action yet :)

I say we settle the gold next

lurker's comment: Since you are Creative, you don't necessarily have to settle adjacent to Resources. So, you could optionally settle the western City 1NE of where you put it, placing it on the Plains River square 3W of your capital, picking up Marble, not losing any Resources or Hills, gaining a Fresh Water bonus, reducing Maintenance, being able to be settled 1 turn sooner, and possibly getting a Trade Route connection a bit sooner.

Gold... probably will be settled to net the Plains Forest Deer, the Grassland Sheep, and 1 Flood Plains square, giving you a good amount of Hills squares to boot.

well the west dotmapped city is just for the time being, I expect to make another run with scout from east to west to see what's in the fog first anyway.

1NE is not bad, but picks ice and some useless tundra tiles leaving some grassland tiles outside.

We could move the dot 1W to pickup that PH too btw.

According to Ororo's reaction I expect to play up to BW then. Will wait a bit for some more reactions though.

Short PPP for next ~15 turns:

worker:
- improves wheat
- improves FP (should spare some worker move turns)
- improves deer
- moves to some forest

I think it should match the BW research

capital:
builds warriors while trying to growth big

scout:
go around the outer line we already see back towards west to see more intel around that corn and of course our outer borders

edit:
hmm not sure if the move to FP eats both moves or not. if yes going deer before FP could be probably better since camp is 4T, but farm on FP something like 6T?

I would end on the plains forest to chop since it's surrounded by 3 forests to promote some regrowth.

BW and AH should be the next 2 techs imo, fine with either first. I'd improve deer before FP, it's faster to improve and don't see how FP first saves on movement. Otherwise sounds fine!

BW next definitely...AH provides no immediate benefit, but agree it is needed for new cities. BW allows us to get those new cities faster

Gold next is a no-brainer IMO. Question is how to settle it since there are several options including using the pigs

Dhoom is right on placement of cornsheep city. The ice and tundra are irrelevant really

I was thinking 1 SW of sheep (yeah 1 off coast), gets the deer, sheep and gold and a lot of hills.

Another city could be done around those fp's south east from it.

I would leave the pigs for those FP's and 3 more riverside grassland tiles to make very nice commerce city (probably the only 1 we will make :-D)

That was my exact thought as well

Yep, def on the deer first...no extra movement and faster improvement

lurker's comment: One further reason for the Deer first: at Size 3, you can work a 4 Food 1 Commerce Deer plus a 3 Food 1 Commerce Flood Plains square, for 7 Food and 2 Commerce from those 2 squares.

If you improved the Flood Plains square first, at Size 3 you could only work a 4 Food 1 Commerce Flood Plains square plus a 2 Food 1 Commerce Deer square, for only 6 Food and 2 Commerce from those squares.

Thus, you see the true power of improving Resource squares--which is the relative difference that a single improvement can make.

Agree with what's said.

1SW of sheep (not for this set though)
deer first
BW first - even if no copper whipping first settler is good

Feel free to play as far as I'm concerned.

I already moved with 2 warriors out of 3 and it was somewhat good move, since we see the copper to the north west due to this.

Warrior in capital still can move.
Worker is with full hands on the FP. I queued another worker with 0 hammers in.

lurker's comment: I'd settle the Corn+Sheep 1NW now to grab Copper, roading the fp in capitol and the sheep gets you a trade route with river so easy on worker turns :) 1SW on Sheep near Gold would be my choice also :goodjob:
