Minor Suggestions Thread

Hi ,

so are you seeing any other resources pop up yet in that area , ....

Have a nice spicy day :)
Dabur,

I don't need to read you saying "Hi", "Hello", "Good morning" or whatever on 10-15 posts in a row. Just post what you have to say and keep it to the point. If you are going to insist on bumping 10-15 threads in a row, please drop the "Hi" and "Have a nice day" crap. It comes across as very patronising.

I think there should be a way to make Canada and Australia relevant to the game. they are just too big to be left as they are, i.e. often not even colonised. should cities spawn automatically even if not founded by an existing civ? Maybe you could have several cities spawn and all function as one large independent state?

that could interfere with the UHV goals of some nations

I often see Canada colonized by England, and sometimes by France. I have seen both the Dutch and English go for Australia, though usually much later.

Canada is a great place to build a city in amongst all that forest (preferably with a few food resources like deer around), then build the National Park wonder and a bunch of forest preserves for an awesome specialist city. I like the fact that it is poorly colonized, it means my National Park city won't have much competition.

Canada and Australia might be big, but their climate doesn't support a high population. Their lack of importance is historical.

A few grievances:

1) Could Medina become an Independent City? It was, after all, one of the most important sites in the history of Islam.
2) Could multiple Holy Cities exist? I.e The Holy Cities of Islam are Jerusalem and Mecca (and Medina...ish), and the Dome of Rock (the Holy Shrine of Islam) is in Jerusalem (NOT Mecca). Similarly, Christianity's holy city should be Jerusalem, since Rome is only holy to Catholics

Would they both give you the gold bonus or just the extra culture? Either, way I think this is going to be pretty hard to implement.

Would you rather:

a) One large city (Mecca) generating lots of income; or

b) Two small cities (Mecca and Medina) with an overall increase in your city maintenance costs and less direct income?

The way CivIV covers terrain with cities and their cultural area prohibits direct replication of historical city placement unfortunately. For instance, Inverness was never bigger than London at any point in history, but due to the abundance of fish resources near Scotland it is almost always more populous than London from my experience.

This has been discussed before. It is in Rome for gameplay reasons.
It promotes the spread of Christianity in Europe, while keeping the Arabs from converting to it right away as they normally would getting the holy city of a widespread religion.

Is there any way scouts could either only appear later in the game or more prefferably have their movement points cut? Its a bit ridiculous how china can have a scout on the atlantic so early in the game

or more prefferably have their movement points cut?

They already have a movement of 1.

scouts like airships with a scouting mission, only within a radius of the civs cities, that would be nice. No more chinese scouts in Russia. (small problem: scouts on ships?)

But what to do with explorers then? Free units like they are now, or like the new scout with bigger range (I'll go for the free unit)

I'd be happy with a free unit role for them, i have no problem with that, its just a bit much when you can send a chinese scout off to meet the Roman Empire or vice versa. It wouldnt really take away from gameplay, but would add a nice historical touch. Continenet would initially develop in a closed situation, then the world would subsequently open up to them.

Hi ,

agreed thats the current day situation , BUT what if history would have been different , .....

to keep it in rome stops a bit the influence from the east , and many civs will fight more over rome then over Jerusalem , especially at the 600 ad start , germany and france , with a lesser extend spain and portugal , russia ones in a while

Have a nice day

Have a nice day

Sorry to draw attention back to this, but Dabur, do you think you could stop the "Hi" and "Have a nice day" thing? It's nice to be wished a nice day, but I must admit it gets annoying after a while, and simply uses up more space when it'd be better to rapidly get to your suggestions on actual issues. Thanks.

One change I'd like to see is an option similar to the "why don't you attack" and "why don't you research" options with Vassals, where you could ask a vassal not to trade techs you give them to other civs. I like to create strong vassals by gifting them my techs, but it seems like sometimes I shoot myself in the foot when I give the Inca Assembly Line, and then suddenly I'm facing infantry in civs I previously had an advantage over.

Another part of this would be making vassals (or at least those you vassalize voluntarily, instead of capitulating) always be willing to trade techs with you. It's quite annoying when you bring a vassal up to speed with the intent of them helping with your research, and they then proceed to say "we are worried you are becoming too advanced" instead of trading you the techs that you groomed them to research.

Now, now, be nice.

Dabur: If you need to, just put "have a nice day" in your signature on the bottom instead of writing it after every comment. That way, some people will read it (occasionally), and no-one will make any more comments. You also don't need to write "Hi" either. We know it's you. :)

Keep writing, though, and welcome (yes, I know you've been here for a week already).
