Minor Suggestions Thread

fireclaw if that UHV is to be of any challenge then it's finish date should be really early.

Or how about adding "control China" too, given that the goal of Hideyoshi's invasion was to "punish" China, not Korea.

Spawn with the rise of Tokugawa (say 1540) and have you basically start out wit Edo (Later Tokyo) and have to conquer all of Japan.

I don't know why people always mistake this - Tokugawa only took over the government from Toyotomi...

The Japan UP doesn't really make alot of sense to me...A defensive UP for a civ that (in my eyes) should be isolationist and offensive...

Tokugawa became isolationist after some Christians in Japan made a riot.
Before that, almost all the governers including Tokugawa were not at all isolationist.
Even after that, Tokugawa kept trading with the Dutch who did not try to spread Chirstianity.

And I don't think Japan was more aggressive than other "strong" countries.
While having more than suficient power to do so, both China and Japan did not make any colony or slave.

To dagriggstar:

I really don't see why Japan's UP is defencive, personally I think that they sould get have the UP of "Power of Loyalty, No Japanese cities can be converted culturally"
-or-
"Power of Loyalty, Japanese cities in core area give extra turns of resistance to foriegn attackers"

To usi:

I put Tokyo/Edo Because Japan's Capital now is Tokyo, and I personally like that city spot rather than Kyoto. I would also like it if the Tokyo/Edo spot was just Tokyo
Also A control China UHV should be later than I want.

To BurnEmDown:

Personally I would like it to be much earlier to add part of Japanese early History(I also would like changed one of the German UHV's too for the same reason or changing thier start date to much later).

I would like to suggest juggling some of the resources in East and South Africa.

Firstly I think we should move the sugar resource that appears in South Africa to one tile west, this would make Durban an appealing alternative to Winburg thus making Johannesburg and Pretoria more likely to be built

Secondly I think that the crab resource in East Africa should be moved so that at least one of the native cities nearby can actually use it.

Finally I would like to suggest moving the gems underneath the native city either west or north so that they are no longer underneath the city.

That is a pretty pointless post you know. Not only are maps like that easily available to everyone with google but it isn't even that relevant. For resource placement you need to focus on gameplay and which resources were historically significant and having the USSR and the USA without Uranium and Rome without Iron might lead to a couple of historical inaccuracies.

Not only that, but the map isn't even very good. Australia has about 1/4 of the worlds uranium resources, yet only one spot on that map...

I guess that map only shows deposits of significantly large amounts? I find it hard to believe that there is no iron in Europe outside of Scandinavia and the Urals.

that's modern resource mines and junk

My thoughts exactly. There are huge Uranium resources in the north of Australia which dwarf the southern Australian deposits.

EDIT: and what's with the three oil resources in inland parts of Australia? Australia's oil fields are in Bass Strait (between mainland and Tasmania) and off the NW coast in the Timor Sea.

What about adding Canada to the new world to prevent the US from taking it all?

Canada was a product of British colonization. If the Brits don't do it, then it's open to America. Just like the Americans can colonize more if cities flip to them so that they can send their initial settlers out.

Another idea I had is to simulate the Minoan Civilization by spawning an independent city (Knossos?) on Crete sometime in the 2000s BC. I wonder how it would impact game play.

I think that was in the mod in some early versions. It was taken out I think because of something with the Greeks.

No, it was a greek city that had too much cultural impact on Egypt? Or was it that it was too deterministic and the Greeks were better of with another city than the not so well place and watery Knossos?

I wasn't around then, but in general, cities seem to be removed when they cause problems with AI settlement behaviour. I'd say that happened to Knossos.

Canada is a difficult choice for a civ for various reasons:

- the first reasonable spawn would be 1867, more accurate yet 1931, and that's VERY late to achieve any reasonable UHV.
- due to its late spawn, it has little impact on the overall game
- the British and French colonies are representing it very well, just as Portuguese colonies represent Brazil (there is no decolonization process in RFC)
- adding a new civ is difficult and there are civs that are more unique and interesting in their UHV possibilities and real impact on history (Korea, Byzantium ...)

Another suggestion, changing the start date of the Netherlands and Germany because they don't seem to ever accomplish anything in most of my games, mostly because the Netherlands are a vassal of either France or Spain because they don't start to expand until the 1600's and Germany falls because it can't keep it's economy up w/o overexpanding.

Also is it possible for it to be made that Russia expands farther into Siberia because it seems Mongolia, China, and Japan always get the rest of the Russian Empire that isn't expanded into.

Spain, Portugal, Arabia, Japan, Vikings/Scandanavians(I really hate how it is the Vikings), and Persia(since they were the Persians until just after WWII) had a later leaderhead.

Why do mediterranean pirates spawn as triremes? It's very frustrating because there isn't any counter to a trireme except having another trireme and hoping that the pirates attack your trireme instead of pillaging your fishing boats. Or you can attack at terrible odds and sometimes lose 2 or 3 of your own to take out one of theirs. Either way it isn't very realistic or fun.

On the other hand, you can sail all the way from Greece to China in a work boat and get there untouched.

Also, I find that the The Great Wall is overpowered. And I miss the feature from civ III Rhye's where wonders were built in their proper regions.

Suggestions:
a. change early mediterranean pirates to galleys
b. add pirates around the world in historical areas of piracy
c. limit the ability of early ships to circumnavigate
d. nerf the Great Wall

I've never seen this as a problem myself. You get some free wins against the Barbarians anyway, so try not to use them against Lions and Bears but rather save them for this sort of Barbarian unit instead.

c. limit the ability of early ships to circumnavigate

The presence of deep water (ocean) takes care of this nicely already.
