Mistfit’s Quick Domination Attempts

Mistfit, it strikes me that you have to fight more the larger you get, which makes the Dom game a little more enjoyable.

Map is key, too - my latest large victory only came after slogging through some nasty jungle that cost me at least 8 turns. Just killed me.

This may just be a difference in playing style between the two of us but I don't see more jungle as a hinderance to my warring efforts.

In all of the quick domination attempts (with the exception of the large one) I have not built a unit stronger than an archer. The only reason that I built horseman in my large attempt is that I lucked out and placed a city ontop of the horse resourse that happened to be connected to my Capital. In that game during my GA I was building 2 turn horse and 2 turn settlers with matching growth. I did use one for fighting but the majority were used for disbanding in far flung cities to hurry Libs.

For me the biggest difference between the Standard and smaller -vs- Large is that:

1.) outside in is less effective. what I tried to do was 1st set up cities with-in the cultural borders of the AI so when I attacked I could sneak attack them. 2nd hit all high food location on my way to the outer reaches. (in this game I settled a spot that had 3 or 4 FP wheats. I was able to whip settlers out of this fairly regularly)
2.) The corruption was much less in this game than the others. I was able to have almost 10 cities that were pretty productive -vs- 2-5 in the smaller games.
3.) Logistics. I had to think much harder where to whip/buy military and I turned off my settler pump before the end of the game because there was no way to get the settlers anywhere useful before I hit the domination limit.

I've let Map finder run for a day or so and have found 50 or so maps to choose from on HUGE  I will sift through the games and start to attempt the last of my Pentathlon games soon. I find it interesting how much more variance there is in Domination limit there is as the maps get bigger

Update: I've played 3 maps to their completetion. Not happy with any of the results so I will not post their results. I plan to start up again soon. RL has been a bear recently. Work has taken the majority of my HoF time. I do however hope to have the huge game finished by the June update to complete my Pentahlon award.

Ok I'm not hugely inspired by playing a Huge Domination game but it is the last one to get to the Pentahlon award so here it goes.

Map Finder (I still refuse to call it MF) found a bunch of maps. I've played 5 of them and given up. This one will be played to the finish even if it is a bad date. I know that's not the spirit of the HoF but oh well it will fill a slot until someone decides to bump it off.

Domination was 1703.
Opponents
England
Korea
Byz
Scandi
Germany
Netherlands
Ottomans
Persia

5 bil years down the middle on climate and wetness

This map looked good with the exception of it's southerly location but unless I end up on a small island ( like 2 of the maps I played) I will play this one out.

I moved the settler SW to settle on the hill and low and behold yet another cow

Using my normal naming convention for towns that is where I placed "City 01" I started on a EW and Chose CB at 100%

The Hut in the screenshot ended up only giving me gold (I never received a free settler from a hut)

I'm not sure But I'm going to try for 3 settler factories with all of the food around

This is the situation at 1500BC
1500BC.jpg

In 1475 the first trio of settlers left my 3 Settler factories (this is the first I've gotten 3 up and running in Despot! Ain't it Purdy?
Pretty_1475BC.jpg

1200BC I learned Philo and chose Monarchy as my free tech. I pulled a 3 turn Anarchy.

1000BC Took out the Byzantines and started my GA.

1000 BC Stats
12 Towns (1 Captured - Constantinople)
38 Citizens
15 Settlers in Route
5 workers
6 archers
6 EW's
3 slaves
3 Granaries
1000BC1.jpg

Short for MA
HBR - MM - Lit - Col - Math - Currency - Construction (I Need a SGL!!!!!!)

That's as far as I'm playing tonight but now that I've posted it I have to finish.

I think your sentiment is probably shared by all, since I am currently the only one with a huge chieftain domination - filling requirements for 3 of the 4 QM categories thank you very much. :)

This game should not take that long. Chieftain is sooo easy. When I played this I chose France and hit start game - no mapfinder necessary. I finished in 730 AD. I tried a slightly unorthodox strategy and it didn't come out as well as I would have liked. I guess if you beat my score I'll have to try again.

My goal when I started playing the Quick Domination was to get all of the wins before 0 AD.

I've done it so far:
Tiny 975BC
Small 775BC
Std 650BC
Large 90BC
Huge ???

By that progression it does not look as if I'm capable of doing a BC domination on huge.

This particular map has made this game very fun. With being able to get (3) 4 turn settler factories running made this a cool map to play on.

The SGL didn't hurt either :D

In my GA my 3 settler factories were building
2 archers
1 EW
3 Settlers
Every 4 turns

Thats the best production I've ever managed.

We'll just have to see how it plays out though. I think I may make some galleys to load some settlers into. They will prolly be able to get to spots quicker that way.

From the looks of this chart it looks like a big jump from std to large. Maybe large could be improved, and this one can get done by 90 BC as well?

I will be very interested in the outcome of your game. I know mine was slow and could be sped up a good bit, but I am not sure if I can get to a BC finish.

I am not sure if I can get to a BC finish.
I'm actually pretty certain I cannot do it either. I have 40-50 more cities to place and the closest location is 20 tiles away. I'm going to open the save tonight and try to put a plan together. I'll keep ya posted. I've got more to post about my play up to this point but my internet connection was very poor last night so I'll prolly post it later today/tonight

Ok completely ignore my last post :D Tonight I decided I needed to get off my can and get this game finished to complete my Pentahlon Award.

I had really thought that doing huge Dom on Chief in the BC was beyond my abilities. Well I have one word:

WooOOOoooOOOoooOOOooOOOOOooooOOOoooT!!!!!

I've done it! By the hair on my chiny chin chin... I won it in 10BC!

You were absolutely right. Hey Denniz, Ya know what that means...

Even tonight I really did not think it was possible for me to finish this game before the AD's so I did not take great notes or take many Pics.

I do however have these:

10BC.jpg

Well this completes the goal of winning all of them before AD... Now I may just have to try for that Tiny win to see if I can get the #1 on all of the Map sizes as well :mischief:

That's it for tonight as it's 4:00 am. I'll be back :scan:

:goodjob: Well done, Mistfit.
