MLB World Baseball Classic - Guess the winners

Who do you think will win the World Baseball Classic?

This is what I think:

Pool 1 - { Mexico, USA, Japan, Korea } , { Cuba, Puerto Rico, Venezula, Dominican Republic }

Semis - { Japan, USA } , { Cuba, Dominican Republic }

Finals - { Japan, Dominican Republic }

Winner - Dominican Republic


I'm pretty much going with the powerhouses for this one.

Anyway, if I could sort the brackets, I would do it this way:


Pool A - { China, Taipei, Japan, Korea } (Team Asia)
Pool B - { Canada, USA, Mexico, Panama } (Team North America )
Pool C - { Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Venezula } (Team Carribean)
Pool D - { Netherlands, Italy, South Africa, Australia } (Team Europe - ok, so one country is its' own continent, and the other is on another continent...)

South Africa has a lot of minor leaguers and high school kids according to the article on their team page. They're not gonna stand a chance in their current division. I'm not sure about Panama, Tai Pei, Netherlands, Italy and Australia either, since I haven't really heard much about their teams. Besides Cuba, I wouldn't be surprised if one of those teams pulled off an upset.

1. apparently, Pedro won't be playing in the first round, and Manny is gone...
2. We've beaten Mexico before with amateurs, our pros can beat them one more time...
3. The USA has more depth: if star players from each country decide not to show up, the American B team is better, I think...
4. And Korea will surprise, I think.

I prety much agree with the OP except:
USA vs. Dominican in the final, with Dominican winning.

Looks like the Pool is shaping up the way I first thought. Kind of obvious when they split the powerhouse teams evenly the first round. Although, Korea's pitching may be a bit potent.

Why is this so funny??? Dontrelle Willis pitched for the US and isn't in game-shape; hence he laid an egg out there again. It's not like korea doesn't have it's own major leaguers on it's roster.
