MLDR005 NOW what?

Hey gang,

I apologize, but I'm going to have to request a skip this turn. I'm going househunting on Saturday, prepping my own house for sale on Sunday (hits the market on Monday), and besides the homework I already knew about, my Consumer Behavior prof just dropped a case writeup on us that's due next week.

I'm sorry to need this skip, but I don't feel I can give the game the nurturing it requires (at least not in a timely manner), and I'd be hurting the team just to rush through it because I felt obligated.

The worst part is, I'm not learning anything applicable to real life in my Consumer Behavior class! You think I would've learned to get other Civs to pay more for my "premium" luxuries by now ... maybe I need to segment the population more ...
 
preturn: we are far behind..maybe do some trading with Greece.

We haven't made trade with Ottomans, so 2 lux + 25g for its 2. I think Sumeria is at war with one of its civs on the other continent.

By looking at the cities, we didn't have any harbor except the last one we captured from Portugal. I switch Rostov to harbor. We need more commerce

This allows us to drop lux to 0 by hiring one clown in Moscow - it's still producing 15spt and Market due in 6 turns. I think it's acceptable for the time being.

I then raise sci to 50 and get Feudalism in 4 turns instead of 7.

We also need more MP. I'm going to build some cheap units for this purpose. Monarchy could have 3MP and most of our towns only have 1!

I switch Samara to granary. It's generating 2gpt no point in building any infra. I MM to get granary in 13 turns.

I also switch Time to Dyes to worker.

IBT: double expansion.

660AD: Kill MDI and LBM. [2-0]

I switch Faraway to aqueduct. It's a low corrupt town that I'd like to get up instead of building settlers.

670AD: this is silly: vet sword loses to redlined MDI. Another vet sword kills it and promotes. [3-1]

IBT I thought there was no counter but an AC comes out of Berlin and kills our sword. [3-2] AI starts JS Bach's. Korea is at war with Ottoman because our galley sees it lands a knight next to Malinalco.

680AD: Greece got Feudalism while we have one turn to go. :(

Kill the AC. Kill pike and spear and raze New Konigsburg. Sword army kills two knights.[8-2]

IBT LBW loses to our sword. [9-2]

690AD: I set research to Theology in 9 turns. I think AI likes Chivalry.

IBT knight retreats from our spear. Korea and Ottoman swap a town.

700AD: Greece has Chivalry. :D

Kill a knight. [10-2]

Berlin has 4 pikes. We can only kill 3 of them this turn. [13-2]

710AD: Kill a knight. [14-2]

720AD:

Kill 2 pikes and raze Frankfurt. [16-2]
Kill AC and 2 pikes and capture Berlin. [19-2]

730AD: RNG sucks as we lose one sword and one horseman and kill a knight. [21-5]

IBT knight kills horses and captures Berlin back. It was intentional as this way the pop drops faster.

Korea has no iron, so I ship iron+gems to Korea for Theology+Engineering+TM.

Greece seems to be researching Theology. Engineering+32g to Greece for Chivalry.

Start Education in 9.

Let's beeline to Leizpig. I've not seen any units coming from the direction of Cologne.

We look good. Pay attention to the trades. Keep selling resources to Korea and Ottomans. I didn't trade with Sumeria as I do not want to speed it up.

Empty army in Samara: make it a knight army please. Note I would not fill 4 units into it otherwise we'd not be able to transport to the other continent until Mass Production!

IHT: Swap a few builds.
IBT: A spear retreats a knight at Berlin.
Turn 1: A few infra builds. Trying to get some size 7 cities. Kill knight promoting horse at Berlin. (1-0) Marching on Lepzig.
Turn 2: Swap some settler and unit builds to infra. We get an Acav, Germany counters towards Berlin. A cav kills knight. Horse dies to 2 HP MDI. (2-1) Another horse finished him off (3-1). Build Vodkaville.
Turn 3: I kill 3 pikes at Leipzig and raze the city. 5 workers. (6-1). Found Monkeyville by bananas.
Turn 4: Sumeria is running away in culture, +327 vs +54. Position troops.
Turn 5: Sumeria demands ivory, We are at war. German knight kills sword. (6-2) Sumerians build Newtons. Full strenght vet MDI loses to redlined Knight. (6-3) Vet spear dies attacking rl knight. (6-4)
Turn 6: Education in, Set to astronomy. We lose a reg galley to a Sumerian Frigate. (6-5) Vet horse defends against that evil RL knight. (7-5) Greece got invention, lacks edu but will not trade. We kill 2 pikes and a LB losing 1 sword and razing stuttgart.(10-6).
Turn 7: Positioning. Lose reg galley to frigate (10-7)
Turn 8: Lose another galley to Sumerian Frigate. Kill 2 pikes at Cologne. Raze city 3 slaves, 1 pult and disconnect the German Iron. (It was built on Iron.) (12-7). Kill 2 LB's by Berlin. (14-7).
Turn 9: Sumerians are really bombing our shores. Our western SoD rolls up Koingsberg, razing it for 4 slaves killing 2 pikes and a LB. (17-7) We are going to need those slaves to clear the jungle though. Knight army kills spear at Bremen. (18-7)
Turn 10: Sumerian bombings are getting old quickly. Lots of infra finishes, courts and such. Sword armies kill 2 pikes at Heidleburg, (19-7) Knight army kills a spear and captures bremen and a pult. (20-7) Sumerians landed a knihgt and an MDI near undefend Tobolisk. We have nothing near there at all.
I left a few units unmoved to allow the next player to react to the Sumerians. The Germans are folding like origami.
The Anti-German campaign was very successful except for 1 knight of theirs that killed 3 of our units. The Sumerian mess? Well I kinda pooched that. Sorry all. We have 1 settler in the field.

OK NP, we need to get things settled with Sumeria. We can not start wars with the other Civs until we get the cities defended on the coast and get offensive units scattered around to handle landings. If we are going to stay at war with Sumeria, then lets get the others over there on our side, before Sumeria buys them in against us. NP, do your thing...

Sorry. I'm not quite gone yet, but I don't have any chance of playing a round before I leave. :(

I'll be out of touch for the next three and a half weeks. I'll check back in on March 3 or 4.

Obviously a lot of technique is still required, but it would be very surprising if we didn't win this one now. :cool:

Well, I'm supposed to be gone, but I can't resist a few last comments. :D

Our idea for Samara was to use the town as a worker pump, and it's still a good one. We should switch its aqueduct build to a library, for immediate completion at minor loss of shields, and then start producing a worker every two turns there. And we should re-name the city "Worker Pump One", because otherwise no one ever remembers that a town is reserved for this purpose in an SG. :lol:

Smolensk is about to complete a temple before building its marketplace, which can't be right.

Our knight army shouldn't hang around in Bremen until it heals, since the town might well flip.

RTM, you played a good round. I'm just finding details to object to as usual. ;)

As Meldor and ChrTh will recall, we traditionally win the games in this series by conquest, not domination.

Only because you use all the settler as combat settlers and we never have time to build any culture.

I agree on this one. We need to keep pumping workers both for completing tasks and for merging into cities. It would be nice to get berlin back up to a nice size, with our citizens. As I stated earilier, we need to make a second one in the southeast to help the cause.
 
Yeah, Sorry I forgot about this. I was in slave gathering mode. And NP, Like the good book says, "As Iron sharpens Iron." So no offense taken at all, in fact I like criticism, as long as most of it is constructive.

A note: I will be out of town from Feb 14 to Feb 21. I have to give a presentation at TMS conference in San Fran, then go to Grand Forks for Regional College Bowl Competition. I personnally cannot think of anything better than going to Grand Forks, North Dakota In February, but what the hey.
Where is a brrr smiley when you need one?
