MLDR005 NOW what?

I think I could start Saturday and post on Sunday. I'll do that unless someone else wants to jump in to maintain a quicker pace.

Since el_filet never posted a "got it"

Ottoman - Gone
Greece - Happy they have their own island

sorry, i got  being up after/before NP in MLDR006 too.

will play one of them tomorrow, will pick it depending on what NP does until then.

I've just posted in MLDR06, so presumably you'll want to play that one.

1500 (0): Sumerian bombers complete the the destruction of our expeditionary force.

We make the transition to communism.

1505 (1): I do the post-revolutionary micromanagement, starting about twenty factories. We're going to have a very strong position in twenty turns or so. Whether that'll be soon enough, I don't know.

Faraway bank --> stock exchange, Krasnoyarsk stock exchange --> worker (with food box full).

1510 (2): We destroy a Sumerian cav landed near Yakutsk.

Smolensk stock exchange --> worker (food box full).

1515 (3): Orenburg stock exchange --> worker (food box full).

1520 (4): Not much.

1525 (5): We successfully plant a spy in Sumeria. The Sumerians have 137 infantry and 41 tanks.

1530 (6): Not much.

1535 (7): We discover Steel.

Time to Dye factory --> worker (full food box), Moscow army --> army.

1540 (8): We can self-research Combustion in twelve turns or accumulate the gold for an immediate steal attempt from the Sumerians in four turns, so I cut the research rate to zero, 418 gpt. I'm not actually taking it for granted that we'll make immediate steals--we need to discuss this.

The Sumerians are in the Modern Age. They have aircraft carriers, which could become unpleasant soon.

The Sumerians are building SETI.

1545 (9): Novgorod WALL STREET --> infantry.

Monkeyville factory --> bank, Emerita stock exchange --> infantry, Vodkaville factory --> bank.

And in Berlin:

MLDR05-1545AD.JPG

1550 (10): The Sumerians have established themselves on Greece's home island, taking Mycenae.

One elite victory this round didn't produce a Great Leader.

Probably we should just give Refining and Steel to the Greeks to guarantee that they'll research something we don't have. I haven't done this yet in case someone has something subtler to suggest.

Moscow doesn't have a stock exchange, though I'm not sure we'll ever want to sacrifice 4/6 of an army to build one there.

The two empty armies, and the catapults waiting for upgrade, are in Berlin.

We have Wall Street, so our cash balance shouldn't be allowed to fall below 1000 gold in the course of our tech theft attempts.

We'll soon be able to afford an immediate tech steal almost every three turns, if we want to do it that way. I know the consensus is that immediate attempts are most cost-effective, but does this allow for the time that can be lost when a spy is caught and has to be re-inserted? The problem there, of course, is that if one attempt to plant a spy fails no other can succeed for a few turns.

The Sumerians have 60730 cp, after gaining 599 cp last turn.

OK, we need transports and flight to make a decent landing now. We will need some kind of anti-air unit.
(I)The Sumerians land 2 tanks and an infantry next to Saratov.

1555 AD (1)
Knock the landing party down to 1 HP each and then we take them out.
(I)

1560 AD (2)
Not much except for worker stuff.
(I)

1565 AD (3)
Oops, forgot to make a steal last turn, we do it this turn and we only have Combustion as the choice. I gift Alex up to us in tech. I would like to get him flight as well, but that will have to wait. He has kicked the Sumerians off his main island though, that is good. I give him saltpeter and coal as well, I want him building the best units he can and as quickly as he can.
(I) The Sumerians take the coastal city back.

1570 AD (4)
Swap maps with the Greeks, they haven't started railing anything yet.
(I) Oh no, the Greeks lose another city. I am afraid it is the end of them.

1575 AD (5)
I was hoping the Greeks could hold out long enough for us to get there, it isn't looking good. Maybe we can take the Greek island and use it as a forward base. We need to be able to get AA on land to take care of the bombers.
(I) The Sumerians land 6 tanks next to New Nuremburg, which is guarded by a knight. The Greeks lose there fur city and we get hit with a riot, I scroll ahead to prevent more.

1580 AD (6)
We manage to kill one tank and ping the other 5. We steal Flight and gift it to the Greeks. They have lost 3 cities total on their island now. I swap Yakaterinburg to a transport and rush it.
(I) We only lose 1 infantry and all 5 tanks are left redlined.

1585 AD (7)
Load a transport of infantry and drop them off on the island. It costs us one of them but the 5 tanks are gone.
(I)

1590 AD (8)
I try another steal and our agent is caught. I replant another one but the money is gone. I won't get to do anothe rsteal this turn set.
(I) The Sumerians land 9 tanks and a Mech next to Saratov.

1595 AD (9)
I tcost us 5 units but we kill off the landing. That is about the worst RnG luck I have had in a while. I do get to take our new bomber for a spin though.
(I) WW must have hit, I get a riot. I scroll through and fix some more cities, but I still get two more riots. This I don't understand, unless I just missed them.

1600 AD (10)
Not much, just fix my mistakes and park some more workers. As the cities come up to speed, we should speed things up by merging in the native workers.

Good steal results. :goodjob: That's what we need.

Change of plan since I haven't heard from ChrTh in a long time and no word on his PC situation...

I thought el_filet was up?

I've started the rebuilding of my PC. I hope to be able to reinstall and test Civ by tomorrow night, in which case I'll be able to go this weekend.

el_filet asked for a skip and so it moved to you and then on to Microbe. If you get your PC up then you should be able to play next round :)
