MLDR006 Attack of the PC Crowd

Please tell me you didn't starve the cities on the island. You mentioned this several times. The screen shot shows Detriot is still at size 3 so I hope you didn't.

I did try and not starve as much as possible, but I was not able to get cities to happiness without assigning all of them to specialists at times.
Detroit was at 6 after capturing and due to unhappiness it fell to 3, the others fared better somehow as you can see. Or were we supposed to keep cities rioting in order not to starve?

I changed many builds to unis (4 culture), of course i kept culture in mind during my builds as well

Good work on the island, ThERat. :goodjob:

I don't think I've ever seen an AI war as long and futile as the one between the Greeks and the Maya here. Normally when two AI civs fight for centuries, someone starts winning.

Did you rush build a harbor to get the luxes over there? If we do everything we can and the city won't remain out of riot, then that is their "choice" and not ours. The idea is that we don't intentionally starve them. I think it would be more in line with the intent of the game if we did alternating riot/starvation until we get the city under control if possible. We want as little loss of citizens as we can manage.

We should try to plant a spy in Japan. Steal attempts can't get us in trouble when we're at war with them already. :D

look at the screenie, these towns have harbors already. at the first chance I did rush a temple.
what happened was: capture pop 7 -> 6
next turn riots, set to specialists pop 6 -> 5
riots, specialsts pop 5-> 4, riots stopped, rushed temple
then later WW up, specialists pop 4 -> 3

at no point did I intentionally starve, the other towns are still better. there is no point of alternate riots, if the city will never get out of the cycle, now these towns are under control, but WW might get them to riot again

We should try to plant a spy in Japan
if you read my turnlog it says
turn 5: plant a spy in Japan
turn 7: spy gets captured

Great, I forgot to look at the screenie  Sounds like you kept to the intention of th variant. :goodjob: On top of that, we have our island back and a second iron if we need a backup.

I wasn't suggesting that you hadn't done it, just that it'll be time to try again next turn.

sorry guys, I really didn't want to sound irritated, but I knew about our variant at all times and try to stick to it as much as possible. Don't know why Detroit was such a hassle? they obviously don't know about the goodness of being under the American rulers
By the way, both Detroit and New Orleans had some culture left, that's why their borders are expanded.

In my mind, we must decide what to do next. The border area of Maya and Greece is pretty crowded and might be a little tough to get at. Unfortunately Maya have a MPP at the moment.

I GOT IT. Maybe play late tonight. It is a busy weekend.

Repeating the got it at may have gotten lost in the shuffle.

1500 AD
At this point nobody has fission. Trying to steal and time the pre-build is impossible for the UN. I crank up science for the last tech we should ever research.

We should NOT have cities at exactly 50 shields to build tanks. I have been screwed to many times with pollution striking at costing an extra turn. Where it is possible I MM those cities to have a few more shields.

Resistance will never end with zero troops in a city, so I move a unit into Shimonoseki.
(IT) Rome wants an MPP - no way Caesar.

The Maya steal Elephantine with our 2 armies right next to it. :(

1505 AD
(IT) I sign a RoP with the Maya to let us stay next to Elephantine. I think the Greeks may take it back and let us capture it.
:wallbash: All the Greek troops by Elephantine move away. What a waste of a RoP.

Production in Atlanta has been sabotaged.

1510 AD
I kill the one unit landing on iron island.

Well that is embarrassing. I failed to catch a city building a regular tank. It barely wins to battles and is a veteran.

1525 AD
Thebes is captured and we own the obsolete Mausoleum. We gained one artillery piece from the deal.
(IT) Greece and Rome trade embargo us.

1530 AD
I am officially a great leader. ;)

LAK-666.jpg

We will be drowning in armies 20 to 30 turns from now. However, at this point an army is the best choice.

1535 AD
Memphis is captured for $1 and destroying some navy in port.

1540 AD
While I prefer artillery support, I simply throw tank armies at Mycenae to capture it before the large Maya stack takes the city.

Once again I have to clear a single guerilla landing on the iron island.
(IT) Thebes flips away costing us 3 infantry. :(

1545 AD
Thebes is ours again. I am surprised the pop dropped so much after the Greeks go it back.

Corinth is captured for $3.
(IT) Rhodes now flips back to Greece.
We caught Japan trying to steal our world map. :crazyeye:

1550 AD
We have recovered Rhodes.

The Maya steal Elephantine with our 2 armies right next to it
:wallbash: I should not have attacked too many times, I thought we could take it, but there was one unit left it seems, what a waste.

Flipping will cost us here, I suggest to NOT park units in cities until the flip risk is very low and managable

We don't have a choice as the Greeks have cavalry and were attacking our captured cities every turn. We must keep at least two or three infantry in every town. A captured city will kill us on war weariness.

had little time today, i just played the first two turns. used the settler to get to the smaller greek cities, preventing the mayas getting them. we conquered 2 cities, but got some WW.

@LKendter: what were your plans for the ships? the greek island seemed to be too far away, so i placed them to ship units to iron city if needed.

lurker's comment: How is the other continent doing? Could anyone up a screenshot? Perhaps looking at it will help with planning an invasion[/delirk]

Actually, I was planning to get the to the Greek island. It will take a while, but it is the ONLY way to end the flip risk with the Greek cities.

I was building a spare transport to cover the iron city.

lurker's comment:

The Arabs are strongest, but the Japanese and the Romans are still alive and there's no runaway civ, fortunately.

I'm glad we're thinking of an invasion fleet for the Greek island. But would it be easier just to cash-rush two transports and an escort in Dallas, which is on the right side of the Mayan peninsula?
