mm18: Incan Warlords AWM

Good stuff. Who cares about liberalism really. I agree with pursuing chemistry and astronomy for Frigates, that will give us complete naval superiority for a while with level 4 boats.

save

Pre-Turn
climb hill and spot Philadelphia and 2 defenders inside
since we have this GA for ages, will use him in NY next turn

1. 1505AD
insert a stable in capital since this gives 2 more xp points for knights
culture bomb NY and rush a terrace there
move one stack towards Philadelphia and another southwest

2. 1510AD
we face a Chinese stack near Guanzhou, great lose 2 knights at 64% trying to take out those elephants
eventually take 6 units out
at Phila lose a 70% treb, but burn the city, raze it as we can't afford more cities currently

3. 1515AD
gunpowder is in, chemistry next
take out a few units near Guangzhou
spot Washington way south, it has a mere 4 defenders
step next to Boston

4. 1520AD
caravel spots Alex borders (in light blue) and he is #1 in score
bombard Boston

5. 1525AD
meet Hatty as well there
bomb Washington to 0%
attack Boston and get my RnG revenge defeating a LB at 20%

take city and decide to keep it as nice forward base
whip 2 courts

6. 1530AD
raze Kaifeng
near Egypt sink one of Peters triremes, how did that get there?
attack Washington, suicide 2 trebs + 1 cat (one retreats), lose mace at 79% :(

This one hardly damages the LB from 5 to 4.5 health
manage to take out 2 LB's, but need to wait for next turn

7. 1535AD
Peter is the first to circumnavigate the world :(
we get another Great Prophet, what to do with him? Decide to join him in capital for more cash and shields
attack Washington that has again 5 defenders
take out a LB with knight, attack with wounded mace but at 79% and lose yet again
almost smash the screen as we lose another mace to yet the same LB that is heavily wounded
that's what I HATE CIV about, don't display odds and I feel better, but to lose all those battles at great odds agitate me a lot. I feel like biting my keyboard

8. 1540AD
Washington has 4 defenders and I wait for 2 maces to help out in this desaster
take out Los Angeles and win at 30% when it is not that necessary

9. 1545AD
finally get rid of that freaking LB in Washington, but don't worry there are 4 more units there now
take out a spear as well, but need to wait another turn maybe

10. 1550AD
take out another 2 axes, but next turn the capital will surely be gone with 4 more knights ready to attack
unless he gets another few units out of the hat

there are at least 2 more American cities and one of them is way west
WW is starting to hit us, we should get drama next for culture slider and theater's
chemistry is due in 3

nice progress on washington. I always like taking his cities, as he cottage spams a lot, and the city pays for itself relativelly quickly.
I see few spots where we burnt the cities and have towns in the area. Maybe we can put a city there in the future, if not we can pillage for some gold.

Pre turn: Looks like America is on it’s last legs Washington waiting for reenforcments. We are hurting for $$ and WW is hitting hard.

1555: Our mighty knights take Washington with no losses. We are really hurting for $$. Cuzco starts Bank. Switch other cities to infrastructure. We appear to have quite a mighty army.

1560: Boston online. Rush a court. Kill some obsolete American troops without loss. China does the crazy attack with a few troops from a big stack and then stop move at Boston. We are slightly scratched but no danger. We get another General and I pu him in Tiwanka as Cuzco has plenty and it is our next largest shield producer.

1565: NY Court-> FP. Chem-> Drama. Also I swap to Org Religion as we will be doing a lot of building in the future and Cuzco can be our prime military source.

1570: Alex is the first to Liberalism. Healing and kill a few Chinese troops.

1575: We are in Org Religion. Moving on to Shanghi.

1580: Drama-> Astronomy. No one has it yet..

1585: Shanghi is burned to the ground.

1590-95: Moving in 2 groups on Atlanta and Tinjun.

1600: Tinjun and Atlanta both razed..

Summary: Last American city (That I can see) should fall next turn or 2. That should get rid of most of the WW and allow us to finish off China. No one has Astronomy yet but it should happen soon. Astronomy in 10 but we could speed it up burning war cash. I would crank frigates and set up a naval screen to allow us to build up our concurred lands a bit before taking on the other continent.

Wow, that's some highly promoted knights we have. Good call building all these knights guys, their first strike immunity will help us get past the free Drill promotion China gets.

with a stable and all the GG we used these knights come out with 17exp point IIRC. Not too shabby

I got it. Will play later on today.
Do we want to build cheap galleys before astronomy for upgrades?
I'm not sure how it is on normal speed, but on Marathon they only cost $200 to upgrade.

Arpinum is at happy limit and will grow in 1. no need to work that many farms. it produces 31 food and only needs 20, so work some cottages instead.
Just that one city puts astronomy in 9 instead of 10

1600AD (1):
cuzco: granadier -> granadier
tiwanaku: hindu missionary -> trabuchet
corihua: forge -> barracks

attack longbow at avar with maceman (84% odds) and lose (nice start)
another maceman (99%) kills axe
mace (99%) kills spear
knight finishes wounded longbow and americans are no more (didn't keep the city, wasn't woth it)
whip market at arpinum (3 pop) as it's unhappy plus it will grow in 1
unhappy at cuzco because of war was 4 before this turn and now it's 5. Maybe i have to wait a turn before it goes down.

1610AD (2):
cuzco happy again (can grow 2 more)
arpinum: market -> library
washington: terrace -> barrakcs (it's odd city, has good hammer potential, but has 2 towns on hills. how stupid of washington)

kill longbow at xian and lose highely promoted knight at 95% (that hurts)
finish the remaining spearman and take the city (decided to keep it, as it has 2 towns, silver, iron and sheep)

Beijing has only few units

But Guangzhau has plenty

kill lone longbow defending iron

1615AD (3):
our main force moves by Beijing. Only 3 chinese cities remaining.

1620AD (4):
i think we have enough units to finish off china, so set cuzco for grocer (in 2)
our caravel sinks peters caravel by cuzco
our granadier kills chinese elephant by gangzhau and mace finishes cat that elephant was guarding
kill another set of elephant/catapult by beijing

1625AD (5):
3 cats attack our small stack (2 die one retreats). Finish off the retreating one.
Couple courthouses done, and our gold goes from -20 to +3 (at 30% science)
capture beijing with loss of 1 knight (75%). We get 4 workers in return and keep the city.

Huamanga is founded

1630AD (6):
mostly move some units for preparation for final chinese blow

1635AD (7):
forbidden palace built and we are at +13 gold
another settler is complete at hungzhaou. I'll leave it for now for next player to decide where to place the city. we have plenty of good spots.
Nianjing has highly promoted longbowman that will make us lose some units. sacrifice trabuchet first and even now our city raider 3 mace has only 59% chance.

a knight takes it out at 71% and 3 more defenders are taken easily

by mistake click yes and keep that city (it's little use for us, sorry for that)

take last chinese city at a cost of 1 cat and 1 knight (at 88%) but killed about 10 units and china is no more

1645AD (8):
astronomy done, set research for steal for cannons (in 12 at 40%)

1650AD (9):
most cities set for infrastructure
units parked in ex-chinese cities to heal

1660AD (10):
our first frigate from cuzco test fired it's cannons and sank peters caravel

our caravel was going around the other continent, i think it was meant to circumnavigate? If so, i totally forgot about that (sorry). I haven't seen a message, so maybe we can still do it.
Just looked thru the log and Peter did it in 1530AD, long before we had chance.

Our contient:

enemy:

most of our units are in chinatown and some in americalands. Couple are parked by capital or nearby.
We can start galleon production now, or just do preparations once we get several, setup a chain to the other contient with few frigates for defense and once we get cannons start full attack.

Is our plan to keep cities on other contient or just burn everything?

Well done. I think we need to get some frigates out ASAP and blockade the entire other island, this will allow us to happily rebuild our entire continent.

Looked at save, looks like I have an economic turnset

Not convinced invading the other continent right now is a good idea, I fear that we will face 3 civs worth of attack stacks with rifles to come soon and just be racking up WW for ourselves. Any advice from the AW continents veterans?

our economy is running 296 bpt @ 40% which is awful. Troop maintenance bills are 38 gold. My current feeling is that we might be best dropping steel for now, going to get free speech and printing press, and settling the 5-6 open good sites on our continent.

i was debating the steel too. my other option was to try go for liberalism maybe. also, I don't think anyone built taj majal yet, and cuzco could probably do it in few turns.
but when you look at gold graph, peter is doing really well and could out tech us.
maybe we can drop small stack at the bottom of his the continent to do some damage to his cities (maybe raze couple)

i like the idea using frigates to block them off and pilage all their sea resources.

we faced a similar situation in mark's emperor AW game. We will face huge stacks initially, so we need to find a really good landing spot where we can create a kill zone.

Remember that parking frigates in enemy waters will cause WW which can be quite annoying. If we want to improve our economy first, we better just pkay defense for no WW and then go on a full scale landing.

I'm going to start us towards education/liberalism/PP then so we can start getting good returns off our cottages, and cancel most of our military builds except Cuzco frigates, perhaps disband some of the outdated units with less xp. We probably want oxford up in Cuzco since it has all these specialists.

Ok, dropped steel, cancelled ALL military currently under construction except Cuzco frigates, disbanded a few obsolete low xp troops, perhaps we should disband more but I'll leave that to next player to decide. Researched paper -> education -> philosophy -> liberalism burning our stockpiled cash and Free Speech is available with printing press in 4 turns. Revolt will take one turn, suggest taking it soon unless we want to wait for emancipation or something too.

Settled 3 good city sites in former China at or near sites we razed previously. Built a lot of infrastructure. We have 3 missionaries headed for the new cities that don't have religion yet.

Whipped some universities quickly and almost completed Oxford in Cuzco (it has 11 specialists), research is already up by half at the same 40% slider and will shoot up some more with Oxford.

On the military front, I moved most of our random attack units up to Cuzco, used our knights to capture one of the barbarian city on our northeast and raze other, and trained frigates sending them out to raid the enemy fishing and look for ship stockpiles (which I didn't find yet.) Even if we get WW from naval raiding, it still hurts the AIs more to lose their fishing boats.

Looks good we need to build up quite a large force for the invasion so we will have a few building rounds. What kind of force do we want. ie. head for infantry or arty first. Do we want Cavs? I don;t usually use them but we have a lot of knights for upgrade.

maybe we can build 6-10 strong defense units and land them on forest hill and let AI throw units at it. We'd do it somehwere in the middle of contient and move our main invasion force from top or bottom.

Are we going for domination or conquest?
If we're going for domination, would be good to fill up our entire contient with cities for more land files.

I'd be inclined to go for infantry myself, we get jails and lumbermills along the way and democracy is just a 1 tech detour along that line. We need the best defenders available to hold a counterattack, should probably pick some cities to specialize for production now since I've mainly been cottaging on my turns.

qwack, can you play tonight? Otherwise I would like to request for a swap with you as after this I am out of town for more than 2 weeks and need to be on autoskip...
