Pre-Turn
MM and income shoots up to 16gpt
decide that we can pillag some tiles in the core since we do not resettle there anyway

1. 1725AD
with Oxford, research to PP drop to 2 turns

2. 1730AD
start some galleons

3. 1735AD
PP is in, we need proper defense for a landing, thus head for rifles via RP
science to 50% at -20gpt
I don't think free speech is good for us with our ubercapital, do not chnage for now

4. 1740AD
by chance spot a gib convoy from Peter heading to our eastern shores
2 galleons full of stuff, upgrade a caravle there and send some unit over for defense

5. 1745AD
sink one of the convoy frigates, but that's not enough

6. 1750AD
go 1:1 against frigates

7. 1755AD
RP in, rifling next in 4
6 units landed next to San Francisco
defeat a gren but lose against knight at 65%, then beat LB and wounded knight, 3 arty units left

8. 1760AD
defeat the other 3 units
start gren production in capital

9. 1765AD
more infra is coming in and we are at +25gpt at 50% science
set Arpinum to Globe Theatre as it can grow very fast for nice whipping

10. 1770AD
we have a convoy next to our capital, suggest to wait for rifles (next turn) and then send it over have been bombarding Pi-Rameses to 0%

Have a good vacation Rat.
Thanks, my flight will depart tonight at 2am :crazyeye:

Played 11 turns to even things out. I seriously think we should consider cutting the turnsets here to 5 or 8 turns or something of that sort, this took me 1 hour to play 11 turns which is pretty long. Commanding so many units and a huge empire is pretty tedious, so I would welcome shorter turnsets here.

Let me just start off by posting a picture of our absolute monster capital here :D .

306 beakers at 50% research, 162 hammers into army, and 147 gold. I wish all of my cities were like this :p . So anyways, Rifling comes in on turn 2, set research on steel for cannons and drydocks. Our frigates have cut the AI GNP quite impressively by taking out all the coast, and are slowly bombarding all the coastal cities to 0% defense.

1790, Steel comes in and we enter industrial age. I continued building up some infrastructure and units in cities that dont need infra, also instead of going max hammers in cuzco, I have set up some extra specialists. Even with that we are pushing out EVERY modern unit in 1 turn with overflow. Im thinking we can greatly use another great prophet here for shrine #2, use our idle engineer to rush wall street in second shrine city. This can give us a good 50-60 extra gold with some religion spread.

After steel, I set research on steam power, which came in 1808 AD. We have alot of useful tech's we can use here, like democracy of Statue of liberty, biology for +1 food per farm, railroads for extra production. Ill let next player decide which path to pursue.

Alexander's power is rising proportionatly with ours, so I think we should go after him first. A good tactic in this kind of situation is landing a huge army which he cannot take out with 1 attack, after which we just attack 1 city and keep on reducing it to 1 defender. The AI will stupidly reinforce this city with non-defensive troops, effectively allowing us to destroy the entire offensive army with city raider cannons. Just make sure he cant beat our stack in the open with the huge reserve he probably has.

Also, build national epic after globe in former location of Rome. We really havent generated too many GP's yet and can use that as a GP farm which can probably generate 1 or 2 more GP's before game's end.

Save:

cuzco can give up working that 4 hammer mine and give it to machu pichu.
I think it can still get 1 unit per turn without it.

Well we have quite a nice empire set up. I sould not be too much of a problem to finish this. It can however be dificult to project sufficient power to another big continent in AW mode. One thing, I switch Cuzco off galleon as with all those generals it should produce ground troops or frigates/ironclads only. We do not have much of a Navy and do not even have all of our sea resources covered. I upgrade our last caravels and start Cuzco on ironclads. Also turn on governors to food in cities that can grow.

1812: Duh. Now I see our Navy We have surrounded our opponents continent. Very nice. I see we have an Engineer so I think i will head to democracy and try to get us the Statue which will be very nice for our empire. Nationalis-> Constitution. I send a force of 8 galleons full of troops to Corinth, Alex's taoist Holy city. There is no defensive landing site but it is the closest and best city to take out. I don't think we will be in a position to hold it so I will probably raze. Should set him back a bit though.

expiditionary_force0000.JPG

1820: We get a scientist. Not so great. I will save him for now. Our Glorious troops arrive at Corinth. We will see what the response is

1822: Alex is paralized with fear and offers absolutly no counter to our troop landing. Sacrifice a CR2 cannon and a treb withdraws. Our Grenis go in all at about 90-95% odds and we burn the city without loss. We will see if that gets his attention.

1824: We loose 1 greni and 1 rifle to a cav on the IT at the former Corinth. Also Peter has the gall to land a greni, knight and treb at Cuzco which has about 8 rifles in it. Needless to say it was a suicide mission for them. I retreated out troops from Corinth to the high seas to heal and land on more defensive terrain.

1826: Democracy in. Statue in 5 in Cuzco. Revolt to emancipation. I haven't been using the whip and we have been cottaging up a bit and it will put at least a -1 modifier on the other guys. Not sure it's the best move but I did it.

1828: Land at Mycenae on forest hill.
landing_at_Mycenae0000.JPG

1830: IT Alex decides to make a stand and launches 4 treb/cats at us and then brings on the cavs. We loose nothing and take 3 cavs while 2 retreat. I Burn Mycenae but take substantial losses in trebs and a couple of grenis. But we wipe out about 10 of his injured units and the city. These guys really don't seem to be putting up much of a fight. I did a bunch of building/growth when if we just cranked and whipped military we could probably get to domination with just rifles and cannon. Oh well, I thought there would be a much more robust response based on my previous experiences in CivIV AW. I guess where we hit we would not have seen Hattie and Peter's troops yet. We will win we could just have done it faster.

I didn't find the turns too long as it was mostly waiting for troops to get into place so let's stick with 10 each but of course you can take 5 if you run out of steam.

init turns:
everything looks good, our empire is great
1832AD (1): we had a wounded rifleman sitting byitself that got attacked and killed
economics in, go for corporation (in 2) for wallstreet
kill the cavarlery that killed our rifleman (after losing one rifle at 90%) and move our wounded stack there. It's outside of bounds of alex so they will heal faster.
move our galleons back to mainland for more reinforcements.

1834AD (2): our stack on enemy contient needs couple turns to heal. send 2 more galleons with units.
it looks like egypt and russia keep a lot ofunits in their cities, but don't move them to our stack. perheps our frigates scare them to leave those cities?
mm3_01.jpg

mm3_02.jpg

1836AD (3): economics done, debate between railroad and assembly line, and go for railroad.
not much happens, few economic builds are done and our gold goes to +125pt, so up research to 60% (still +25)
set Tiwanaku for iron works (our second biggest shield production city, will complete in 17)
Hungzau is unhappy, so switch it to theater

1838AD (4):
state of liberty complete. sink peter's empty galleon with frigate (99% odds, but only 0.2 life left taht will take 10 turns to heal, ouch)
also sink egyps gally with settler and longbow
our stack heals, so i move it, but with only 1 trabuchet will take forever to take city

1840AD (5):
nothing interesting happened
spot alex's capital, protected by only 5 units. where is his army?
mm3_04.jpg

1842AD (6):
again nothing interesting
1844AD (7):
nothing

1846AD (8):
railroad finished, assembly line next
some of our units land on alexland, more units on the way
our workers start railroad projects

1848AD (9):
alex is sending settler probably to settle at his old city site

1850AD (10):
alex cavalery attacks our stack by his capital and does 0 damage.
wow, that was the only attack i've seen from him.
there is Peters frigate at the south of our continent.
a lot of our units are almost reaching the continent:
mm3_05.jpg

there is some unhappiness in several cities. maybe we can up the culture to 10%?
Beijing is almost done with bank, and would be probably be good candidate for wall street.

Overall it was a really boring turnset. Maybe we can setup galleon chain to move units faster?

I think we also lack any strategy of what to do next. Do we just keep sending units? Who do we take on and what cities do we keep and how many?
I don't have much experience at this age, as I usually finish my games before 1500 and if drags to this age, I just give up as it's really tedious at times.

good progress guys, well it will be a long slog, I suggest to try and keep one city to get the AI to burn their units, if possible

Any thought on going backdoor diplo? It will be much less tedious, we can found a few cities in the north by the fish to increase our population, and raze some of Alex's cities, my guess is this should put us in a position to vote ourselves in if we emphasize growth...

that would just be odd, winning AW game by diplomacy.

win by UN? sounds pretty weird to me really. I rather we win by conquest

I knew Rat would get angry when I mentioned UN or diplo. :). Since everyone prefers one of military victories, im fine with that.

I will be away from Thursday 28th until Monday Oct 2, so if it's my turn, just swap me or skip.

 how come you know me so well

With infantry and cannon we can probably do Dom. as fast or faster than diplo anyway. I'd say we just press on.
