I'm interested in knowing what posters experiences with such games are. So far I've only played Guild Wars, which was fun, but not really that exciting, and I intend to try out a trial demo of Star Wars Galaxies that I have.

So far it seems to be that such games (for me) are only truly fun when you have a friend playing alongside you, and it's rare to get a proper experience (or even random team members) when online ;alone'/

So, what are folks experiences with this genre, and what should I be looking for or doing to draw in the full experience? :)

I play EVE-Online, a fun game and complex game, even when you're not playing...

Most would say that guild wars, because of its extremely limited nature, is not truly an mmorpg. Since there's limited social interaction it's more like a RPG. WoW is certainly a good mmorpg, from when I've played it, but it's endgame turns into endless, pointless dungeon/honor grinding. WAR by mythic looks promising and its set in Warhammer FB (guided heavily by WHFB's creator Gamesworkshop.) Guild wars is a good start, but it really is nothing like most mmorpgs.

I've played Runescape and MapleStory with friends.

Fun with friends, boring without. There was a good three months of my life when I would use MapleStory much the same way people use AIM.

I have played a couple of free mmorpgs, but the gameplay really stinks. Solitair is more interesting than killing the same mobs over and over again. I did meet somebody now dear to me during playing these however. :)

I'm currently playing another one alone and yes, it is not half as much fun as playing with a friend. Most mmorpgs offer only very basic gameplay (compared to traditional rpgs), so you really need the social element or it will get boring real quick.

These were pretty much my thoughts too - I can't understand how people can get so addicted to the games. I keep quiet though, I have literally lost hours to TIE Fighter and Civ in the past. :mischief:

I'll test out the Star Wars one when I get home, see if it appeals to me. One thing Guild Wars has going for it is that it's free to play.

I played galaxies for a few months, but got bored pretty quickly. I'm still playing wow after a year and have no idea when I'll stop. ;)

As far as MMOs go I can certainly recommend WoW for somebody just easing into the genre. It's popularity means that the game-cards are widely available everywhere, which means you don't have to pay the fee via credit-card(a breaking point for some folks). Also many of the classes go well together, which means you and friend can duo through the game and really benefit from each other, and that working with a friend is something you said you liked.

I played 1-60 and through end game in a duo with a very good friend of mine. And We'll be returning for the expansion together once again.

The only thing I'd warn you on is very skimpy character customization options. Other than that it's very solid, some upcoming features will probably go far to remove my complaints about the stat system.

Honestly I'd almost pay the fee just to be able to post in the WoW-Forums. They are so chaotic and filled with every internet sterotype it's hard not enjoy them immenesly on some dark twisted level.

It really depends what style of game you want. I myself play Eve-online, but neverwinter nights does have some multiplayer servers which are large and persistant, basically reaching mmog levels.

OU : great game extremely slow leveling buggy
Eve: Great graphics, boring mid - high level game play
WoW: Very polished though far too much grind at mid level
RO: Fun light game: too grindly at mid level
Lineage 2: Nice far, item dependent, grind comes very early, great teamplay

Iv only played WoW, and i love it. Im Currently at 58 and 3/4 Its so hard to level. But im getting there finally.

I've played Bufleet online, hanovete and ImperiaOnline and her is my score

Imperia Online-65%
Bufleet-32%
Hanovete-3%

I played Anarchy Online the most. I have played City of Heroes and FFXI also. I liked the idea City of Heroes had but feel it needs a couple more expansions or issues (patches). FFXI I didn't like. I quit it before the 30 day period was up.

Right now me and a couple friends are waiting to see the new Warhammer MMORPG that is suppose to come out next summer I think. But I don't know as of right now. I don't have any interest in WoW but the other guys have had accounts on it for a while. What is Eve-Online? Anyone got a link? I prefer a less fantasy based story on mmos though myself. Sci-Fi has a more fun feel to it IMO. But Warhammer has me curious.

I have yet to find an mmorpg i like. Eve is cool but not worth the subscription. A historical MMO thats not crappy would be nice. Waiting for Pirates of the Burning Seas

I would love something along the lines of X2, X3, or hardware, but nothing "epic." Probably something along the lines of 50-200 players per server so it can be a real community oriented game.

PVP!

RAWR!

:D I can't wait for Warhammer Online. They added 2 more races. So far it is Dwarves, Greenskins, Empire, and Chaos. Empire and Chaos do not have charactor classes released yet. Next up will be the High Elves and Dark Elves.

Warhammer Online

Sorry, I checked their site out tonight to find an update. :D
