Currently, none.
At some point I decided to try one, and because a friend was playing it, that was Vanguard.
I decided to really invest time into it since I felt it was the best way to play a MMORPG, so for 6 months straight I played nothing but that.
Vanguard was buggy from the start since it was released way too early, but that never bothered me too much.
During my sting here's what I found out:
- it's actually hard to find a nice group. Your friends (including guild) will not be always online when you are, and will not be always doing the same quests than you. It's hard to schedule play sessions also, you have to do that outside of the game, which is silly. There should be tools in the game to allow you to show your friends when you'll be playing and what you'll be doing. Pick-up groups, more often than not, suck, because cursing teenagers is not my thing. On the whole, the entire interaction thing was disappointing, but that's not proper to MMORPG, I find that on-line gaming interactions, in general, suck. LAN interactions are much better.
- The quests were incredibly repetitive: either kill stuff, or deliver stuff. I dunno if it's the same for other MMORPGS, though. The good thing with VG was that you had crafting and diplomacy, two other areas of progression, but these were even more repetitive than fights. Also, VG was a pretty game and the environment was nice. It was actually quite fun getting my toon up to 50, I saw a lot of different places.
- Overoptimization sucks. What that means is that there is one best piece for every slot in your guy, period. And I'm not sure I like to rely on parsers. And as such everybody is pretty much dressed up the same. It would be funnier, IMHO, instead of having "Damage 15-23", to put "Damage: good". That would allow for more varieties in outfits.
So in the end I quit. It was a very interesting time and I'm glad I did it, but it seems that in order for me to truly enjoy a MMORPG, I would need a group of close RL friends with the same schedule.
