[MOD] Fall from Heaven II

A tad intimidating posting where you guys all know so much more then I do about this game. You have gotten me hooked on FFH2. I have done modmods as well and had everything working with FFH2032 patch d (Still works until I add patch L)

When I add Fall Further with Patch D I get the same error using his 040 and patch b.

When I add Scions to FFH2032 patch d, FF033 same error using Scions 1_32

Everything works if I do FFH2032 patch d, FF033, and Scions 1_29.

Any idea what this could be? I'm running XP02sp2 and graphics, sound are patched up.

I have re-installed Civ4 and patched it up to try from scratch and I still run into these errors. Any help would be appreciated.

It CTD during the phase of starting a new game and it states "Init Graphics" Any idea of what files from FFH2 straight load (no patch "L") might work to fix this problem?

Just reinstalled the mod, and decided to activate music, loaded bts and I was unable to bring up the options window. I loaded the mod and the options window popped up.

Is this a problem with my installation? Or a mod issue?

Love the mod btw.

FfH2 0.32 (no patches) requires BtS version 3.13 to play. Starting at FfH2 0.32 patch "g" and later it requires BtS version 3.17.

If you have the appropriate version then most likely your problem is that your video card is having a problem playing the opening movie. Disable movies to work around it.

hi there Kael, first of all I have to say GREAT JOB on FFH :D

I only really first gave it try today cuz I've never really been into "total conversions" , but decided to try FFH cuz I realized that I tend to quickly lose interest in the game when reaching gunpowder age in BTS... it's probably cuz I very much prefer swords to guns :D

so considering how much I liked TBS fantasy games like the warlords series (awesome), or age of wonders, I downloaded FFH2 and started playing a game. I must say I'm impressed by the quality of the mod and the detail that has gone into it. the land textures are great too, isn't that blue marble btw? a relief for the eyes I'll tell you, compared to the lame crayon-like colors in BTS.

apart from the compliments, I have a quick question... is there any "recommended" option to play at? like game speed, map script and size, custom options...

cuz I used to play vanilla civ4 at normal/epic, but then when I started playing BTS i really liked marathon cuz of the slower rate at which tecnologies come which is great imho so that you can fully exploit newly gained abilities before they become obsolete. now I started playing FFH2 at normal again and noticed that technologies come at a pace comparable to marathon BTS, which makes me happy. but still, I'm wondering if it wouldn't be better to go back up to epic or marathon, so I figured out that I might just drop in and ask if there is any recommended speed option or any other custom option for that matter. :D

thanx in advance for the reply and for all the time and commitment you've put into this ;)

By default the terrain art is a custom "fantasy terrain" set created for FfH2 by seZereth. There is also a game option that allows you to use Blue Marble terrain if you select it.

We try to make all options equally viable. I have never played a Marathon FfH2 so its not tested or balanced at that level. In 0.33 I will be forcing Random personalities off (that messes with a lot of stuff we do) so I wouldnt recommend that. Outside of that its all yours.

Personally I usually play normal speed games with the Creation Mapscript, Advanced Start, Living world (double event changes) and Blessings of Aramanteon (double resources). But thats just what appeals to me.

You'll probably get several replies on this, since it's mostly a matter of taste. Like Kael, I play normal speed, with Blessings of Amatheon and Living World. I usually also like to play with Raging Barbarians, Wildlands, and End of Winter.

As for the map, I've never tried Creation, but a lot of people seem to like it. I used to play mostly Fractal maps, since I thought they generated interesting-looking maps. Since BtS patch 3.17, I played a couple of games on the Earth 2 map script, which was fun, if weird. I recently played my first game using the Tectonics map, which I thought generated a really good map.

thanx Kael and Nor'easter for the reply :)

well I have to say that the default fantasy terrain looks a lot like blue marble too, which makes it so much better than vanilla :D

I guess I'll stick with normal gamespeed and just leave the default options checked for a while ... regarding mapscripts, I'm using creation right now cuz it seems spot-on for FFH2... I really liked the tectonics map and perfect world was great too, but I very much prefer toroidal wrap over cylindrical for BTS, so I would pretty much go shuffle all the time with as many options as possible turned random. but considering how FFH2 doesn't necessarily have to take place on a whole planet, I guess Creation is good enough :D

Hi, I'm asking for a friend, but is it possible to play FfH 2 on a Mac version?

No, Mac's cant use mods that include SDK changes. And FfH has a ton of SDK changes.

hi there again Kael!

another question came to mind today :D

I always turn time victory off in BTS cuz I consider it way too lame to win by "score"

should time victory be considered a good default option for FFH2 ? the armageddon counter gives this mod a "the world's coming to an end" feel that would actually make time victory meaningful.

but if you tell me that it's just like vanilla, I guess I'll turn this one off and fight for victory the hard way :D

thanx ;)

No plans to remove the time victory completly. I think we need a score based vicotry condition and thats it, and players that don't like it can turn it off (or play beyond it).

Im planning to release version 0.33 on August 15th. The changelog will come about a week beforehand. I updated the first post with some new art, including some screenshots from 0.33, so they might look a little different than what you guys are used too. I cant believe how old some of the other screenshots are, Ill try to take a screenshot or two per game to get those replaced.

You do a ton of posting in this thread, you should check out the full FfH forum for questions and stuff (there is even a forum for scenarios and such that you wife may be interested in).
Kael, what are the ground rules for where postings should be placed? I see a variety of issues on this thread (and it's the one with which I'm familiar) ranging from game questions to technical issues. What REALLY belongs here?

For example, I have a question regarding scoring (does the creation of world and heroic figures add to your score -- I'm fairly certain the answer is "yes") and an issue regarding the WorldBuilder and Brigit (sometimes my wife gets it to work correctly; other times Brigit doesn't want anything to do with people, fights them off, and moves out of the Ring of Carcer. My wife claims that she always does it the same way -- placing a barbarian Brigit inside the circle).

Where should questions like these be posted?

Thanks.

Thats a good question. I would say that this thread is more for casual players who might be intimidated by an entire forum full of information. A place for general announcements and questions from people who don't realzie the forum exists.

You are obviously very familiar with FfH and asking detailed questions. Those are probably better off in the forum. I suspect most of the diehard FfH people who could help answer your questions probably play cloaser attention to the forum than to this thread.

I don't think there are any specific rules - in any case, doesn't it make more sense to you to post your questions, issues, ideas etc. in a whole FFH 2 FORUM instead of a FFH 2 THREAD?^^
One of the advantages of posting in a whole forum is that you can avoid your double-postings (if you have seperate issues they probably belong into seperate threads, etc.; if you think of something to add two minutes after posting, the "Edit" button is your friend instead), and you are probably more likely to get an answer on some specific questions.
This is the forum we are talking about. Note that there are subforums at the top for stuff like "Strategy & Tips"", "Modmods, Scenarios, and Maps" (this is probably the best place for mapmaking related questions) and stickied threads in the main forum like the FFH 2 0.32 bug thread (this is where bugs should be posted).

These aren't strict rules, but rules of thumb - basically, it will increase your chances of reaching your intended readers (for example, mapmakers if you have a mapmaking problem). You can, of course, continue posting in this thread - I just think it makes more sense to use a whole forum instead.

In your specific cases, I'd make a new thread in the main FFH 2 forum for the scoring question, and a new thread in the mapmaking forum for Brigit.

An additional advantage would be that you could search the forum for threads that may already answer your question (although I can't think of any).

EDIT: Note to self: Post immediately instead of forgetting to actually send my reply so I don't end up responding to an already answered question :p.

Personally I never knew about this thread till I had gotten VERY immersed in FfH and was already answering more questions than I was asking in the FfH forum area. From what I have seen, most of the more knowledgeable and active people hang out in the forums and rarely show face out here. Thus questions with depth get answered quicker and from more points of view in there.

Of course, Kael hasn't announced the expected release date for .33 in the main forums at all, so coming here has its advantages ;)

To answer your questions though: There are 2 Brigit's. Each looks about the same, except one of them has no :strength: value. That one is who belongs in the Ring at the start of the game. I'm surprised it isn't set up to work like the Broken Sepulcher so that it auto-spawns the correct unit when placed by worldbuilder.

Creation of ANY unit will add to your score and power level. Set in the XML with iAsset & iPower tags (if I recall the tag name properly). World Units don't get a specific boost from any other location, they just tend to have these two values set higher than other units would.

As for where those particular questions would have been best asked, new threads as described by MondSemmel, or in the stickied "Modder's Guide" thread of the main FfH Forum.

It does spawn BRIGIT_HELD (which also has 0 affinity and movement, doesn't have Hero, and can't get weapons promotions) the same way the Broken Sepulcher spawns Barbatos. The reason it for two Brigits is so you can capture Brigit and not lose control of her every time she loses a battle.

I don't see the creation mapscript, I see fractal contitnents tectonics terra etc. Where is the creation map script?
