[MOD] Fall from Heaven

I never installed Civ 4 in program files, but I did have the event interface file in the correct place. I copied yours over and replaced mine, just to be safe, but that didn't work either. I supose I can just re-install civ 4 and see what happens then. This is pretty unusual, I have the right file in what I presume to be the right place, but it simply won't load and only on your mod.

You may want to try copying the file I attached to: 'C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Mods\Fall from Heaven 095\Assets\python\entrypoints\CvEventInterface.py'

If that doesn't work I don't know what else to suggest except to uninstall and reinstall civ4.

Please keep me in the loop on what you decide to do and what fixes it. Im sure your not the only persont hat has gone through this and I'd like to put a note in the first post about it if we can figure out what it is.

Fall from Heaven defaults to installing in the 'Program Files/' directory where it assumes Civ4 is. Where did you install the mod?
 
Have you updated the game yet? It been quite a while since you have not updated the game, the reason why i asked this is cause the First Post is not edited. Please release the new version.

1.0 has been finished since February, but I need something else to come out before I can release it. That other thing is outside of my control. 1.0 will release the day the other thing does.
 
I originally installed Civ 4 elsewhere thanks to my unsual organizational system, but I just transfered the entire thing to program files. I cannot re-install the game at this time thanks to me not having the install cd with me at the moment, but I'll try a few things and see if I can't get your mod up and running. I can't help but think that the event interface file can't load because it can't be found, so I'll see what I can do. Thanks for your help anyway, Kael, I hope to be playing your mod shortly.

Hmm.. its erroring attempting to load CvEventInterface.py. That file isn't in Fall from Heaven. Normally that means that there is a modified version of that file in your customassets directory but you have already ruled that out.

Is it possible you changed your CvEventInterface.py file in your Assets directory?

I attached a copy of the default CvEventInterface.py file from 1.52, see if it matches your copy at: 'C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets\Python\EntryPoints\CvEventInterface.py'

Or, if you really want to remove all doubt uninstall and reinstall Civ4.

usually that error happens when you try to load a mod, it quits civ, and reload with the mod, the problem comes when it tries to reload civ with the mod, and some archives are already in use, because the other sesion of civ hasnt already finished unloading from the memory.

the solution is to make change the ini file in order to log directly to the mod, without getting into the default civ, and then loading the mod.
 
Is there any way to create a new exutable that will load directly from Windows into a mod without having to load Civ IV first? It would be cool to have a separate executable file available for larger mods like this one...it would eliminate some of the technical issues and also allow players to get to the action faster.

Yeah 1.0 has a seperate shortcut that loads the mod up directly. It will have to be modified if you don't have the mod (or the program) installed in the default location.
 
As far as I know you can only change config file so that it starts FFH each time you start Civ4. It would be good to have new exe file indeed.

:D True enough, but that will only effect the release time of phase 2, not 1.0.
 
Kael its me again and i have a technical problem whenever i play your mod now.

Recently whenever i get around year 77-120ish in FFH 9.5 i get the screen that says a fatal error has occured and civ4 needs to close.

This always occurs everytime when i hit the end turn button and ive already tried new games but it happens around the same time with your mod.

Il attach a screenshot to help you help me.

It wont let me take an in-game screenshot once it displays the error message. If you know another way please tell me. Heres a screenshot of the turn before the error pops up. And when i reload it always pops up the next turn ALWAYS.

But its the traditional "an error has occured and civ4 needs to close message"

Are you running the latest patch (0.95g)?

If so could you zip up your save game and attach it here and I will take a look at it.
 
if your versions of CIV and FFH are up to date you might have a corrupt file, try re downloading FFH, (delete your old directory, dont install over it)
...just a suggestion
 
Hit "Control+Print Screen".

That is the windows hotkey for "copy what is on the screen into the clipboard".

Then launch "mspaint", and hit "control+V" to paste. If it works, you'll have a image of your crash.

Next, save the file as a jpg.

On the other hand, I don't know if "Control+PrintScreen" will successfully copy the screen from within a (DirectX?) program like Civ4.
 
Ok here it is kael. After you hit next turn it should give you the error message right away.
