[MOD] Fall from Heaven

The City Defense line is for the Archer line the CityRaider line is for Melee and ithink we have other unitcombats as well that allow it.
Those two lines of Promotions kind of set the primary use for the respective unitcombats. I do not think there is anything wrong with that one.

But we did some things in Phase 2 to bolster the defenses:
First of we increased the cultural Defense (for now by 25% might become even more). Furthermore we changed the way catapults reduce it (in testing at the moment not sure if it is in the first phase 2 release, they now reduce the percentage by the bombard value so you will have to bombard a city with high defense more often than one with low defense).

For the AI we are working on the Promotion assignments as well, but the AI prefers for its city defenders The City-Defense Promotions by far over the Combat Promotions already (even in vanilla).

Question about FfH 1.0c

The adept is able to cast haste. The mage/conjurer (not sure of the name) is able to cast fire II, the summon elemental (strength 6) spell. However, I am able to upgrade the adept into a mage/conjurer and that unit will be able to cast both spell.

Is this intended?

If that's the case, building an adept and then upgrading it (for a cost in gold) is the way to go since that unit will offer more tactical flexibility since it will be able to cast 2 spells.

Yeap, thats intentional. The reward for "experienced mages" over newly created ones. You strategy is sound as long you can afford it.

Kael - wow!! Those new screenshots of FFH2 look amazing! Especially some of the new units. Holy cow. I particularly like the Kraken and the War Machine! Nice!

Chalid deserves all of the credit for that work but those are some of my favorites too.

And I promise you they look even better in game (and with an AA card rather than my little laptop screenshots).

Yea, those latest screenshots look great. I like the balseraph and those promotion buttons in the first new screenshot look great too. Just one question, what is this eater of dreams unit we can see on two of the screenshots?

The Eater of Dreams is the Sheaim version of the archmage. When in one of his own cities he can kill population to regain the ability to cast. Meaning that he can summon multiple demons, pit fiends, meteor swarms, etc in one turn if he is in a city with a large population to kill off.

In the close up screenshot what you are seeing is the spheres he has to pick from on level-up.

Wow! FfH2 is really looking amazing. You guys are doing some great things, and I think your mod will surpass anything done thus far. (in Civ3, 4, or otherwise) Very nice.

My brother's birthday is on May 17th....I might have to skip it. :mischief:

Kael those screenshots for phase 2 are awesome.

I really really love the machina tank looking thing. Is it some dwarven war machine? Either way its really detailed and good i give you a big .
I am eagerly awaiting phase 2.

I know Chalid spent a lot of time on that one, it is awesome. It's the Doviello hero, "The War Machine". It is big, has a high strength and automatically destroys any enemy improvements and forests that it runs over. It even get experience when it runs over enemy cottages/hamlets/villages/towns.

The bad side of the War Machine? Its capturable.

Here is a closeup.

The pictures you posted in #7 look great. I am very excited to play this next version. Though I keep telling myself it will be unstable as you've said, I am still anxious to see it. This is really a fantastic mod that takes this game in such a positive direction. The open endedness is also quite impressive.

If I may put my voice on the topic of buildings adding temporary promotions to aid in defense, why wouldn't just building something (like walls, castles, or other buildings not yet disclosed) be done. It seems simpler and more natural to the game. A simpler solution would be adding a few more building options that would boost defense. You could have a series of defensive structures that are built 'atop' walls (using walls as a pre-req): Watch towers, fortifications, Gate-house, Arcane shields, blood barriers. Each could be relatively inexpensive additions, have other requirements (and maybe detriments) and offer improvements to defense.

That war machine looks absolutely awesome, I love the spikes with dead bodies on them! :) Just watch out for ESRB they just might decide that Civ4's rating should be changed to M because of user created violence and gore. :aargh: :suicide:

I also spotted some Guild Wars icons, that's a great idea, I might post a pack of them so folks can use them for any magically-themed mods, hopefully ArenaNet won't mind.

I think when Phase 2 comes out and matures a bit I'm gonna give it a try, I mean it's high time I tried the best Civ4 mod. :D

Would it be possible for certain buildings to obselete / become available with city size and/or culture?

For example, perhaps you could make some dirt cheap city defences (wooden palisades perhaps) for smaller cities which obselete quite quickly, but might be useful for just conquered cities.
But a city with legendary or influencial culture can build legendary walls? And perhaps to differentiate this from the increase in defence due to culture, this would make the bonus imune from bombard:

Would it be possible to make a set of new city defence promotions which can only be granted by certain buildings? Perhaps the archery range, bear totems or tree home for example? Then it may be possible to reduce the city attack and defence promotions as another person suggested but still have high defence in your most advanced cities.

Perhaps this mechanic could be used with different buildings and units as well / instead?

Those spotlights are awesome. I cant wait for this mod to come out- its going to be an almost completely different game.

Any chance you got release some more teasers/lore about the different civilizations/new units/etc? Like what makes the blaseraph catapult different then normal catapults, etc?

Again....awesome.

Dont make it capturable... anything but that.... make it so that it has 1 cargo space and cant opperate unless a unit is "driving" (carried in) it... and may be good with other siege units and u can probably get away with a Machinist ( possibly can only be made if the city has the Mashinist Shop) and the Machinist is the only unit able to opperate siege weapons and the like...

Just a suggestion...

Capturable is actually good for you. To capture it one needs to be victorious agaist it, and winning against a str 18 Hero is not very easy.... But if you really loose it to your enemy you have the chance to get it back.... It's the only (nearly) immortal hero...

I was thinking about something for this mod. It seemed alot of people wanted to see some sort of "space race victory," in 1.0. Which kind of seems the anathema to this mod, so it was/is a no go. Anyway, what if you had a secondary religious victory. Something so difficult to achieve it was nie impossible....production of a certain unit that can never be upgraded in the first phase of the tech tree...and certain wonders, and/or achievements...insert ideas...The idea would be a sort of theme based production victory that incorporated certain events/criteria that must be met in different phases of the game, not just a race at the end...to unleash hell across the world, ascend to godhood, shift your territory into a heavenly realm, etc...

I think with the right spin a production victory could be a cool addition, and not just the same old Spice Road.

The Belseraph national flag looks like the grin of a crazed sadist. And then there are the jesters! I love it. And the idea of being able to capture that supertank to use in my own twisted hordes...oooh la la.

Just 3 quick questions:

1: Are the glowing rock resources bordered by different types of monoliths the mana nodes? Honestly thats a stroke of genius.

2: What's that demon in the final picture? Baby Meshabber? Does he get the fire aura attack too?

3: The spell names are awfully interesting. I am espically interested interested to know what "Hideous Thoughts" will do, and what is required to cast it.

Thanks for the update!

1: Yes. Type of monolith depends on your state religion.

2: I'm fairly certain that's a Balor. I don't think he has a fire aura, but he is still good to have.

3: I wouldn't want to spoil anything, part of the fun is discovering the new spells for yourself(IE: I don't actually know, haven't tried it yet:) )
