From what we saw in the previous livestream, the Modern Age governments, and the option of three Ideologies leaves room for fun interpretation

Authoritarianism
Bureaucratic Monarchy
Elective Republic

Democracy
Communism
Fascism

Without getting deep or off topic, I'm fascinated in the potential malleability and fluidity in establishing a civ's modern socio-economic, political, and diplomatic agenda, and wanted to hear other's opinions!

True, at face value, it's window dressing, and the Ideology is what seems to be the deciding factor in that era, but I like imagining how this shapes the identify of various national governments.

The only thing the Government does is determine what sort of bonuses you get during a Celebration. It doesn't seem to be very impactful.
The celebrations also trigger government-specific narrative events though right? The compounding boons from them could prove fairly significant. Trouble is, that information isn’t obvious (or perhaps even consistent) at all glance.

Is anyone able to confirm if we can change governments? I am hoping it is not pick at the start of an age and then you are lock into that government for the whole age.

I can state again to clarify. Your choice of Government lasts the entire Age and cannot be changed.

How often do celebrations occur? I don’t think I sam this mentioned in one of the streams. I may have forgotten
It's based off of accumulation of excess Happiness, but I don't think we have any numbers.

Authoritarianism
+30% Production towards training Military units for 6 turns.
+3 Combat Strength for all Units for 6 turns.

Bureaucratic Monarchy
+20% Gold for 6 turns.
+30% Relationship change from Endeavors and Sanctions for 6 turns.

Elective Republic
+20% Culture for 6 turns.
+20% Science for 6 turns.

Well celebrations also add one slot to your government. And if I recall, at one of the livestreams they showed ~8 slots near the end of an age.
2 t start…so 6 10 turn celebrations over 100-200 turns (standard speed)
so ~40% of time in celebration shouldn’t be ridiculous

Didn't John Stuart Mill suggest that efficient monarchies are essentially bureaucracies?

Thank you 😊 - 40% sounds like a lot

The intersections of specific governments and ideologies appear to be player head canon rather than reflected in any kind of in-game lore or mechanics beyond mixing social policies together.

It looks like at the start of a celebration you can change social policies. Plus, judging from some of the pictures I have seen it also looks like its grants a temporary social policy slot for the length of the celebration but I could be absolutely wrong on that.

Each Celebration adds a permanent social policy slot.

Oh wow that seems a bit game breaking or at least eventually eliminating the need to choose between social policies.
There are a Lot of possible policies, and it all gets reset on the age transition.(ie it’s not really permanent, just till the end of the age)
