[modmodmod] The Sword of Islam Reborn

@Derdan , @Southern
I am going to search for it, so that the next version is really standalone.

I found it. There was the same problem in SoIExpanded. Some paths had the old name (The Sword of Islam instad of SoIR)

The next version (release probably today) will fix it.

Now it should be really standalone.

I also added a Serbian invasion with their own UU, the Vlastela.
They should appear between 1170 and 1210 AD.

It is Lancer with +30% City attack.

I found the Relic-Bug! :bounce:

In fact, it was a really simple bug, but tricky to figure out.

At the start of the game, the Relics are distributed semi-random over the map. Some of them are hidden, some of them are in the province-cities. When you now open WorldBuilder, edit the map and save it, then all relics, which are in the cities, are saved as their buildings in the wb-file. So the next time you start the game, it distributes the relics again, and the relics from the wb-file are in the cities as well. That way more than one of each relic can appear in the game.

Every time the WB is used and saved, you have to go through the wb-file and delete the relic-buildings.
I will only upload searched files in the future, so nobody has to worry about it any more.

The Sword of Islam: Reborn Version 0.3 released
This Update contains some balance changes for Portugal (they became less porductive and UHV is more difficult) and Bahmanids (they became more research and a stronger UP).
It also improved the map by completing the new Byzantine cities, improved the Balkan forest and added Palmforest to the map.
A Serbian barbarian invasion in Greece (with their own UU) is also added, similar to the Bulgarians.
It is now also a standalone mod!
Download SoIR_v0.3 here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/the-sword-of-islam-reborn/

Full Change list:
1.0.3

- Changed Bahmanid UHV 3 to burn at least 8 cities
- Bahmanid UP (2 free Dakhani Warrior for conquered city) now starts with cityraider I & II promotion
- Slightly increased Bahmanid Research
- Added Palmforest to the coastal provinces
- Added Serbian Barbarian Spawn, also with own unit
- Solved the Relic-Bug
- Slightly decreased Portugal Production and slightly increased Portugal CityDistanceMaintenance

Known Bugs:

- in German translation ü, ö, ä, don't work so Bogenschütze is Bogenschutze (Archer)
- silk road has in different menus different icons

What do you think about it? Playtest-feedback would be useful!

So, I'm really excited to give Portugal a go tonight... looks like some really great work has gone into this.

Just to flag, when I run it, I get these weird red circles on some map squares:

They appear on the 'Middle East and Greece 750AD' but not on the 'Old' or 'Other maps'.

Thanks for your great feedback, Lycidas!

I forgot to add the Palmforest graphics. Should now work with SoIR_v0.3.1

Thanks

Thanks so much for fixing it - I thought it might be palmforest related.

Here's another (minor) bug -playing as Yemen just for longevity rather than historic goals.

Again I have to thank you, Lycidas! :worship:

I found the bug, but as you said it is really minor (small barb spawn in Hindustan), so I will not release a new version thererfor. The Maratha Cavalry (and the Maratha Warrior later same line) are written without underline.

Here is the corrected file. Copy it into SoIR/Assets/Python/.

I would not wonder if there will appear some more of this minors.

Also nice to hear the UHVs are not the only drive to play. Same to me in my current Bahmanid game. I started playing to test the UHVs and UP, but now I really like to play on until 1700, even I failed the UHV 1533.
Spoiler :
1551_UHV_FAILED.JPG

Actually, the Portuguese conquered a city. I fortified Manbai with walls, castle and hordes of units, because of a later Portuguese spawn 1533 near Manbai. But instead of attacking Manbai (I think 3 tiles away), they sailed to Ghua (10 tiles or something:wallbash:), where I didn't even have a wall! Sure, I reconquered it soon, but the UHV is failed.

First I played on to see if the Portuguese can come back until 1600 (that is the range of the UHV), but they were pretty week this time.:eek2: I saw Oman reconquering their cities in the gulf!
To achieve the other UHVs, I was at war with Delhi. They were REALLY strong (sometime 4 vassals), and in the end I had to give them Anhilwara (after the UHV was counted, so I completed it) for peace. Otherwise, they had destroyed my empire completely!

But now, 50 years later, I want to see if I can mange to let Delhi fall. They have lost some cities to the mughal Spawn(but their vassals), and a reinforced Mewar. Luckily, they became voluntarily my vassals. So 1596, when I became military technological nearly equal, I started the biggest war Hindustan has ever seen, and will never see again.:ar15:

At least the power graph tells good news:

Has adding Greece made the Byzantines too powerful? Do you plan to add a full Balkan faction or a Latin Empire faction?

In fact, I already weakened them in v0.1, because they were unstoppable in the lategame. Maybe they are still a little bit too strong, but I think it will get fewer with the next big updates.

I have not started yet, (it is quite a big plan), but the next step will be improving Greece. First it has been added because it was too important for Byzantine and the Ottomans. Now I realize it is the most "empty" spot of the map.
I want to create something similar to the suggestions made in the SoIExpanded thread by Nizou, but I do not have a certain plan yet. Civs like Bulgarians, Serbians, (both would be based on their barb spawns, but worked out to a full playable civ) and Venetian Crusaders (similar to jerusalem and antioch).

Therefore I first have go go deeper in to the python modding of SoI and see what it possible for me to do. I would be glad if someone could help or give advice (also historical).

Yeah, with Greece and Candia on the map, Venice would be a cool addition.
And probably should buff the anatolian turkish factions

Rather unfortunate Portugal start :crazyeye:
I guess this has nothing to do with your modmodmod, but you could still adjust it by adding an extra defensive ship or two. Didn't happen the first time I rolled up a portugal start, must be a powerful Oman.

:lol:Must be very rare! It has not happened to me yet.

I guess you still had some ships left in Yemen, though would be a quite impossible game.

But what defence ships should I place? The Carrack (6:strength:) is already 50% stronger than Great Galley (4:strength:). Frigates (8:strength:) would be to strong 1500 AD.

No, I won't make this. In the time period of SoI, they weren't widespread. Their time was much earlier.

At next, I will have a look at the expansion to the east, add barbs, mercs and rework landscape. And I will look for these desertworkers (only found them because SanJose mentioned them).
In principle you could have the Ziyarids as a playable Zoroastrian civ.

Hello!
I just searched Wikipedia a little bit about the Iranian Intermezzo, and found out that the Buyids are the only reasonable civ in this area and era.
The other ones, also your Ziyarids, were very short lived. The Seldjuks (rise 1073 AD) will conquer there territory very fast. The Buyids and the Samanids were far enough away, so they have a chance in the game to live some centuries longer.
So I am not sure how much sense it would make to play a civ that instantly dies after the Seldjuk spawn.
I try to get the map extension, 5 tiles to the north, work this weekend.

Is someone here an experienced modder? I need some help with the expansion 5 tiles to the north.:wallbash:

I changed the WB map, Maps.py, Consts.py, CityNameManager.py. The new rows are just filled randomly, but it should work to open them in the game.
But every time I try to play the new map, the game crashes. When playing with the old map, you can open it, but game crashes one or two rounds later (I think this is should be).

Has someone an idea how to make it playable?
I think I changed the same files as in the SoIX from AtlantaMarty, he also did not touch the DLL, but we know his mod is working.

Hey GregFred - new here but I've always loved the SOI mod and saw this thread. Looks like you may need to increment the "num plots written" line in the WB file. I'll peak around and see if anything else stands out.

Welcome DrLoboto and THANK YOU :worship:

Just changed num plots written from 8050 (115*70) to 8625 (115*75). Works great!

Already tested some turns. Everything seems to work correctly, even the Bulgarian Barbs go southward to Byzantium instead of northward

Now I can start shaping the new land. If someone can give advice or contribute something, I would be grateful.
