Monarch charming

I should be able to look at it tonight after work and see what's going on.

Are you passing it along or looking for input? Either way is fine for me. I will try to post some comments tonight.

Hi guys. I'm back.
Sorry for disappearing for so long, but I've been really sick in the past few weeks (nothing that more than 3 weeks absence from work, a few days in the hospital and a LOT of antibiotics won't solve ;) ).

I'd like to continue this game, if you're still interested.
I'm not sure if I can play much for now, but since this is a (very) low-pace game, I don't think it should be a problem.
So, what do you say?

Sounds good, Asaf. I'm sorry you have been ill, but glad to hear you're feeling better.
I think I was supposed to be up next and dropped the ball.
My best times to play now are on the weekend. If you'd like to take a look at the save cripp7 posted and make any comments, suggestions or recommendations that would be great, or if you would like to put in a turnset before the weekend I could pick it up after you.
I have been off and on lately too - my sickness is not serious but long term - it turns out I'm going to be a mom :) while exciting news, it has also been causing some literally sick and tired feelings :lol:

Congratulations mlinneak! I hope the rest of the pregnancy goes smoother...

Anyway, regarding the game - go ahead and play, mlinneak. I'll play after you.
As we discussed (had to go back and read some...), we should probably raze Orleans with our stack there, move the 2 LB's from Nobamba to defend Lyons - this should be done this turn before pressing Enter (or do we give up on Lyons for now?), and send the 3 grens roaming around to Nobamba (and maybe another LB from Cowville).

Note that Sal's stack is still roaming in the north so we shouldn't thin our forces there.

Hiya

I checked the save. I don't think there is any way we can hold Lyons, and I don't think there is any way we will be able to raze Orleans. We just don't have the units Napoleon does, and his road network lets him reinforce at will.

He will give us gold for peace. This is what I am inclined to do ~

But I did not want to just take the deal without first discussing, because really we haven't mentioned a treaty at all yet. His power has dipped, but so has Roosevelt's, and I don't think we will be able to maintain our current victories, not to mention advance, at this time.

What do you guys think?

I will check for comments again tonight.

1710 AD
Took the peace deal - we can try rebuilding our military

1725 AD
We enter the Industrial era - Steel is in - set research to 0% hoping to upgrade all of our seige, slot Replaceable Parts as there were not a lot of other options that would help us militarily

industrialera.jpg

steel.jpg

1735 AD Besancon revolts - they prefer the Americans. I switch it from building wealth to a Library, hoping to increase their culture and convince them to stay

1745 AD Roosevelt and Napoleon make peace

1755 AD Khazaki revolts, they prefer the French - after the courthouse completes we may want to switch that city to a culture building too, or even just culture

Accidentally hit enter on my end turn - we are at 1765 AD
I made no movements or decisions since this is supposed to be the next player's turn - sorry about that!

I slotted a couple of banks in just a couple of cities to help our economy, and otherwise built a few cannons
Looks like it will be 2800 gold to upgrade all of our Hwachas, so that is unlikely but we have 672 in the bank now, I am sure we could afford a few choice upgrades to maybe some of the more experienced / higher promoted units
I may have left a couple of units on go-to orders as well, I tried to find them and disable that but I think I missed one or two - again, sorry about that! :)
Roosevelt has regained some of his power, but so has Napoleon :(
Hopefully upgrading some units and building cannons will aid our power level

The save ~

I'll look at the game sometime later this week, and post a more detailed plan.
So... economy, culture in the right places, and military techs. right?

Is Sal's stack still around? what is he thinking? Never mind. Don't answer that. I'll see for myself when I look at the save :)

And BTW, how do you cause the attached files to appear with the view statistics? Somehow whenever I attach a file it just appears as a link.

Saladin's stack is still around, last I saw it was trapped in a little 4-5 tile area within our borders, I don't think we have OB with him.

When I include attachments, I just use the Manage Attachments button in the Additional Options section of the posting tool - I click that button which opens a secondary window for me, then within that window I click on a Browse button in the Upload File from your Computer option, select the file, and click the Upload button, once that has completed I use the Close this window button at the bottom of the little Manage Attachments screen.

That's all I do, I don't do anything special when uploading that causes those statistics to appear.

Can you tell by my reply that I work in a tech support call center? :lol:

Thanks mlinneak! I think I usually do exactly that, only I then use the attachment button in the rich text edit box and add the attachment. I guess this way I can control where in the message the attachment will appear but then it's not added automatically with statistics. I'll try that when I post my turn set.

So my plan:

First, trade steel to Augustus for RP+Philo+map+10g. Napo and Roosy already have steel, and Caesar is our friend. The only possible drawback I see is that Caesar is Sal's vassal.

Afterwards - start teching rifling (Liberalism was already discovered, we need the rifles and I can't see a good trading tech. Of course, after the trade with Caesar we might see some more techs).

Continue mlinneak's path of culturing up the 3 border cities (Lyons, Khazak, Besancon), even if it means giving up some production and growth in favor of hiring an artist and building culture.

Furry cow will pop borders in 10 turns at the current rate, and hopefully Khazak will pop not long after it, which will kick (I think) Sal's stack off our property. When that happens we'll be able to defend only the border cities and not worry about the core ones.

I'll finish the much needed bank in Seoul, and build only units and wealth besides that (at least for now). I'll run some deficit research (not sure yet how much, will have to see after the trade).

And prepare for redeclaration on Napo.

That's all I think.

Sorry Asaf, I missed your PPP post until today.

Your plan sounds good to me, I like the tech trade idea, and we are going to need culture in those cities or we will lose them.
I queued banks in only 2 cities I think, so if you see that we have any other cities making good commerce you might want to add more banks in - we would need more for Wall Street anyway and our economy could use the boost. It's hard to be balanced - we need units too :)
I'm sure that after your set we will get a clearer picture of where we still need work.

1765 AD (1) -
Made the ceasar trade:
Spoiler :
tradeyb.jpg

Switched Besancon to building culture and added 2 artists, so it'll pop borders in 4 turns.
Khazak is in rebelion, nothing to do there. Lyons is already buliding :culture:. Will pop borders next turn.

Set research to 40%, rifling is up in 14 (-41gpt, we have enough gold to complete).

1770 AD (2) -
Copper town: grenadier -> courthouse (instead of queued bank) - costs much less and gives almost the same.
Judaism has spread to Nobamba.

Why are there auto-workers building improvements automatically? they're too close to Sal's stack. I cancelled their orders (farm in the middle of nowhere). I prefer them to sit in a city instead of baiting Sal.

Renegotiated incense deal to saladin to get an extra 1gpt.

1775 AD (3) -
Avignon: gren -> barracks (probably should have been the other way around... )
In one of our Seoul mines gems were discovered, which automatically added some gpt.
Set :science: to 50%. Rifling is up in 10.

1780 AD (4) -
Spicy sheep: cannon -> cannon
Judaism has spread to Khazak.

1785 AD (5) - nothing much

1790 AD (6) - Khazak is out of disorder and will finish courthouse next turn (will save ~5gpt) and will then build culture.

IBT - Napo got a great merchant.

1795 AD (7) - Khazak: courthouse -> culture.

We should really build aquaducts in a few of our cities.

1800 AD (8) -
Seoul: bank -> cannon. we're now @ -40gpt, 50% research. Rifling is up in 4.
Avignon: barracks -> gren

IBT - Saladin got a great prophet

1802 AD (9) - 2 years interval! woohoo!
Copper town: courthouse -> gren
Spicy sheep: cannon -> cannon

We have a great artist born in Ulundi. Should probably build a great work in a border city or in a city we'll take from the french. Sendin it to Lyons for now. We have a couple of turns until it gets there.

IBT - Saladin has completed the mahabodhi.

1804 AD (10) -
Seoul: cannon -> gren
I'll continue playing until rifling comes up.
I increase research temporarily to 90% so it is finished next turn.

1806 AD (11) -

Rifling -> steam power (for now). Dropped research to 0% (also for now).
both Khazak and furry cow pop borders, which causes Sal's stack to be kicked away.
I'll stop here.

Well, a very quiet set of turns. Didn't do much.

I sent some of the auto-workers to sleep in cities. We should wake them when there's something new to do.
The GA is waiting in Lyons. Can build great work now or save it for later.
I've woken a couple of grens which I fortified in some of our inner cities because of Sal's stack. They are no longer needed there and should be sent to the front.
We should somehow scout Napo's territory for garrison.

We're 2nd in score! (I think we've been there since before my turn set)

Upgrading an LB to rifle costs 200g. We might want to consider that.

border cities are still in culture mode.
Oops... Just noticed that Ulundi is passed its happy cap... sorry. :blush:

We should build some health buildings (aquaducts, mainly), and more courthouses and banks, but mainly rifles.
And probably our UB for Oxford, and rifles and more cannons. :shifty:

Prioritize, Asaf, prioritize! :crazyeye:
units and health, methinks.

And techwise - I kinda like staying with steam -> railroad. They are very tradeable.
What is our next goal? take down frenchy?

We have steel which Sally doesn't, but that's it.
Techs:

And look at this, it works!
