This is a tough start really, i'd say it not much different from being boxed in tundra between shaka and zuma.
i have lost this game 3 times on emperor dua to being dogpiled in BCs (by my faithfull hindu-friends).
how i'm playing a fairly well wonderspamming game at monarch difficulty
i've spoiled the game, though, playing knowing where copper and huts are is not the same (

Agreed - i ended up abandoning the game from my above post (also my 3rd attempt at emperor for this) My first two attempts i didn't handle the start (BCs) very well and ended up getting declared on (as you were) early. Last game went much better - but in the end still ended up in a bad situation due to the fact that i couldn't control the DOWs as much as i would have liked. Makes for a hard game when the diplo is difficult to manage.

I fought Hannibal/Nappy a few times this game from their DOW's. Only when i took out HC was it my DOW. I ended up finishing off Nappy after my last post (he DOW on me again) - and had infantry on Hannibal but made the mistake of trying to get factories up before making the dozen or so more infantry i would need to be completely safe vs a DOW from him - sure enough he picks the best opportunity and declares. I still had a slight chance to win - but it would have been drawn out and really tough. Rammy had started on his spaceship and even if i fought off Hannibal i'd probably have been too slow to stop Ram's ship.

I've only won a few games on emperor - but i won the last monarch student game on emperor easily - and my current offline game on emperor i am also definitely going to win. (fractal, standard +1 AI, random leader - ended up with good land but not a strong capital) Maybe it's just the way i play, but i don't think the super food capital, even with a philosophic leader, helps THAT much. I'd rather have an average capital and better land around it - and also a more manageable diplo situation.

Anyway, i agree with you and not everyone else saying this was an easy start. Sure it wasn't that bad, but it's much harder than that starting spot makes it look. Sure was harder than the last few MS games. I've always played w/ random leaders, from noble on up to emperor - so i've really only played philosophic a handful of times. Maybe i'm just not as good at leveraging that trait w/ a capital that looks like that as others are.

Looks like we have a nice group of regulars on this serie, so I'll follow the trend and upload a new game each friday.

We didn't have Fin and Pro yet. I'd like a game with Gilgamesh for the Pro leader, but we had Cre in the last 2 games. So we may go for Fin first. I think Hannibal would be interesting, but still open to suggestions.

Let's play Wang
If seriuosly, i consider Hannibal to be too strong.
Look, he has a top5 UB, great UU, albeit somewhat limited.
His both traits are ranked extremely high by most of the community.
Of course a bad start can spoil any leader, but Hannibal has strong opportunities even in polar tundra.
If we are doomed to play Fin leader, let's at least pick a "weaker" one.
I'd almost suggest modding in exclusively Fin leader, without the second trait, of playing with unrestricted Victoria/Wang/Ragnar of, say, France.
If that would go agains game's principles, then, let it be Wang

Wang was indeed a close second candidate, to play both Fin and Pro.

I'm not a fan of unrestricted leaders and modded stuff in general. We still have some 50 leaders to play

Fin isn't overpowered but I agree Hanni is way strong most of the time. I guess put my vote in for the WANG chung baby!

Ok, next game probably will be with Wang.
But a game with one of the Khans has high priority anyway. I'm a huge keshik fan.

No no no not "one of the Khans" because inevitably people will want Kublai. We want to REALLY abuse war + Keshiks, Genghis all the way! Being "creative" and Kahn just doesn't feel right (although I've had some great games with Kublai).

Hanni went Jewish
Ram went Buddhist
I didnt adopt any as HC declares at Pleased
KK,Nappy also went Jewish
Not adopting a religion backfired as HC dowed then Nappy who was in WHE and then KK Hanni was pleased or I would have been mincemeat
HC captured a city but I obliterated his stack then Nappy's and then KK's signing peace by giving them Aesthetics then HC DoWed KK and asked me for help and I promptly took my city back and extorted techs
Hanni running away with tech but I have a scientist waiting to bulb Liberalism and nobody has Education as usual
I just got GLib missed out on Mids :|

Cho-ko-nus! I've only played them once in BTS, but man, I had some fun games with them in vanilla. Maybe not as fun since I intended to go emperor for my next MS game, but count me as a vote for Cho-ko-nus.
